Thoughts on Perfetti? Hockey Prospects Radio was gushing over him, especially his shot and IQ. They also love the strides he took in improving his skating. But, they claim he’s the type to slow the game down to his pace, as opposed to doing everything at a higher pace,

Yeah I could agree on that, but I also think he can adapt to a higher pace when necessary (like with two on ones and such). Think he’s going to be a special player in the NHL. Well deserving of a top 5 talent, IMO. Will need some time to develop the all around game, but he’s close to being pro.

I definitely think this draft could be all over the place.

I have my list, but I'm under no illusions that it is reflective of what you'll find elsewhere. It's going to be crazy to watch.

Likewise, the crazy thing for me is that the only thing that seems secure (outside Lafreniere & Byfield) is that Askarov will most likely go in the top 10, Lolol.

I'm no draft expert but from what I've read Raymond used to be kinda a clear third behind Lafrieniere and Byfield but has now slipped. So I understand that. I'm just watching highlights but Perfetti does not stand out to me like the others do.

Rossi stands out a ton but I'm slightly concerned with his size. He's quite small, isn't he?

I know being too big is a negative these days but Rossi is real small. Still like him over Perfetti though.

I like Lundell too but he seems like a classic 50 point second line center, not an elite top-line driver.

Raymond had a terrible start to the season, but is turning it around slowly. He’s on the cusp of getting more minutes with Frolunda, but they’re stacked. The fact that a potential top 3 pick isn’t getting enough playing time in the SHL is not good. Kind of deserving of the slide.

In his defense, he also had health issues & tore up juniors in his stints.

Raymond falling would be sweet. Perfect pick for us to make at around 8-10 if we end up there.

in summary, we should not be complaining about the current staff

The complaints about our staff and the "misses" in drafting really shows that people aren't aware how many misses every other team has. Tampa is my most used example to make this point.

Which is what I'm worried about they need to be high on centers.

They do, but that's Byfield basically. I'm not taking Lundell over Holtz just cause he's a center.

I'm all about this team needing an elite center, but trade a defensive prospect and a future first for one then.

we need forwards period...doesn't matter if its a center or a wing. our forward depth is crap with little in the system combined with odds that we'll lose some combo of kreider, fast, strome, buch, this falls into the beggars can't be choosers. we need good forwards

imo the importance of centers is overrated because so many top players are centers...as we've seen with panarin, an elite winger with a lesser center works just as good as an elite center with a lesser winger. elite forwards are elite forwards

See thats where I disagree we tried that last decade using Nash and St.Louis as top wingers with 1a/1b guys like Brassard and Stepan and well we won no cups. The teams that won mutltiple cups all won because they had a legit 1st line center

Presumably, Panarin, Kakko, Kravtsov, and say, Holtz, are much better than a quickly-declining Nash and St. Louis.

Panarin is better than Nash. Kakko is likely going to be better than 2014-15 MSL. Kravtsov and Holtz are huge question marks though.

The MSL trade was not great. It's as if we bought a car with 245k miles on it, knowing it will break down at 250k. That last season was atrocious.

I don’t think it was a known thing that the guy who was leading the league in scoring at the time we traded for him would be as done as he was just a few months later

It wasn't, but.... the guy was like 38 or 39. You knew the end was close. I think we definitely overpaid for him, given that he basically was forcing his way out.

I guess we thought the price was worth it for a Cup and we felt confident that we would get it. Still would have been nice to get a player with a little more tread on the tires.

I still remember, I think it was Ferraro, during the TDL coverage saying something to the effect of “good get for the Rangers, will fit in well wi—

“Wait. They paid what?” Shakes his head. “Too much.”

Did something happen to ZBad when I was not looking?

I think unfortunately there is always gonna be a sentiment surrounding Zibanejad that he's like a "1B" but we'd really just love it if he was our second line center instead. Of course that is unreasonable because he's outproducing guys like Crosby, Ovechkin and Stamkos on a PPG basis, but I think there's just that "Where's our McDavid/McKinnon?" quest.

I certainly have that temptation. I have to remind myself that Zibanejad is just 26 and he's producing like a top 10 center in this league. How greedy can you get? Even if you got Brayden Point or Elias Pettersson, those guys would be the #2 center.

But the lack of center depth probably contributes to that. In the absence of the McDavid/Crosby/McKinnon pipe dream, if we could get a second stud center I think it feels a lot stronger like "It doesn't matter who the #1 is, we have two top 20 centers."

chicago and washington did just fine with elite wingers...nash and st louis were our top wingers they weren't elite wingers. our top scorers during that error had 60 points. so if you are arguing that you can't have both mediocre wingers and mediocre centers then you are right. But if you have panarin scoring 100+ points as a wing vs a center scoring 100 points, there is zero difference

I get it. But much like with what DeAngelo is doing, it feels like some people do not appreciate what ZBad is doing. Best we had at the position since Messier skated in his first tour and Gretzky skated in his last year.
