A member of the umulati.

This post needs way more likes.

Why would NJ make this trade?

Some teams don't do enough research to have names left on the board that low in the draft, so they'll ditch their late-round picks for future assets. There's an opportunity there for teams that do extensive scouting, because there's a possibility of grabbing some good future depth from what others write off as "table scraps."

Rather take a shot at guys like this than more bloodlines picks.

The Red Wings head scout is Kris Draper and he used their 7th rounder to draft his own kid.

Sometimes those family connection picks work out. Mike Piazza's dad, a childhood friend of Tommy Lasorda, asked him to draft his son as a favor. Piazza was selected in the 62nd rd, 1,390th pick. He's now in the HOF.

That's true in rare instances. But if you go through the list of bloodline picks WE'VE taken over our history... well, let's just say that "dire" is an understatement.
