Only certain players who are clear upgrades at defined roles.

Koivu has been an elite defensive player and would be a big upgrade over Thompson or Bunnaman (at this point in his career).

Smith is declining, but still a solid 3RW who'd be a good anchor for a young center like Frost.

i think this is where you are looking at things the wrong way...both of those players should not be the number one option at 4c..its laughtons job. Is koivu an upgrade on laughton...i honestly don't see it, especially given how laughton can move into a winger role on the 3rd line if needed. We already have a stacked lineup that has no room

g-X-tk
lindblom-X-voracek
jvr-X-farabee

these are the wingers. I just don't get where you see smith has a role on this team. Then factor in guys like brink, ratcliffe, cates, bunnaman, Allison, sandin, future 1sts, trades that can come in for guys like jvr/raffl. These options (koivu/smith) really don't make us any better + a multi year deal can stop future guys from coming in (another jvr situation where we have cheaper options). Laughton is faster, more versatile, solid defensively, good at fo...i honestly don't know why many think he isn't capable of being a good 4th line center. I wish he never went to lw with hayes lol, it really changed many outlooks on him

Koivu is far better defensively at Center than Laughton. Thats about it. Laughton stinks at Center defensively.

If Patrick is healthy enough to play, why do some think he'll be traded? I'd think his next deal should be influenced by how much time he's missed, making an extension more reasonable.

It would be nice if the team could win in the playoffs because coaching puts them in position to win, rather than winning despite coaching and GM decisions. I think that should change.

did you believe that q wanted to come here? did you? im sure fletch and everyone wanted him here but the fact that q wanted to go to florida, so did you expect the ownship to just keep offering him money until he said yes even though he didnt want to come here? coaches have their rights to do what they want and respect their decisions and not blame the ownership for it because if they did, av would go somewhere else and we probably end with another hakstol situation rookie coach and maybe this team would be in the lottery, is that want you want?

or is it about go big or i hate this organization forever because we never get the big fish?

There's 100% no way he is traded before or during this season.

Fletch and AV haven't even seen him play yet and other teams aren't going to take a chance on him right now.

No, it doesn't say that at all. It says that both have established track records of failure and that we don't need extended lengths of time to see they haven't changed.

Barry Trotz had a 20 year track record of failure as an NHL coach until he finally won. Did he change, or did he just keep doing the same thing till it finally worked one time?

It’s not dumb. You’ve got plenty of posters acting like it was a no-brainer to play Frost. These posters are ignoring that Frost, at least right now, has many weaknesses. Lack of strength, lack of pace, defensive positioning & turnover issues, etc. He’s still learning that he can’t play like he could in juniors. And in the 20 NHL games he got he had 2 goals & 5 assists. Derek Grant was more productive. So the conniption about Frost not playing is ridiculous.
FWIW. Hagg has all of those issues you stated as well

Many posters here will never be happy with the coach. Always the first scapegoat.

Because maybe the new regime aren't his biggest fans? He's looking like a big whiff by the Hextall administration. Makar, Heiskenen, and Pettersson, among others, went after him, and it's not like Patrick's injury history (and supposedly his migraine history) were unknown.

that's really it but laughton can certainly be fine defensively at a 4c. Its a lot less responsibility than what he was being played at majority of the year - 3rd line c. Just makes no sense to get koivu when we got laughton. If people want to put laughton at wing on the 3rd line then where the heck is frost going to be lol. the 3rd line is jvr, frost, and one of lindblom, farabee

ya but patricks current injuries weren't related to his predraft ones, right? We got unlucky once again with the 2nd round overall but hopefully Patrick has enough time to turn into a solid 2c if his injuries go away. He has all the skill to do so IF he can stay healthy

IF that really must be a reality, as I’m not a huge Johnny G guy, I’d be willing to amp up the “prospect” to get them to take JVR instead of Jake.

Voracek very much has a place on this team.

Would that really be that much of an improvement to give up the extra pieces/Ghost?

Supposedly he had migraine issues in the past that the Flyers were aware of. Add that to two hernias and a lot of missed games in junior and, yeah, there were red flags.

Johnny hockey + something for Voracek, ghost, and a prospect?

I have a terrible feeling I know what the "something" there is.

Calgary doesn't want to be taking on money, since they're looking to add Taylor Hall.

Ghost and Jake have the exact same combined cap charge as Gaudreau... and Milan Lucic.
