In finnish comedy podcast they did bring up possibility that Fletcher could be looking to bring Mikko Koivu and Mikael Granlund to Flyers. In case JVR is traded i could see Granlund one option , even he is not what we shoud be looking for. Koivu could be one for 4C spot or 3C spot with 1milj contract to be insure in case Patrick cant make it.

Totally not fan of the moves but just wanted to bring them here.

Granlund will be 28, coming off a bad year in Nashville, but some good years in Minnesota, however, a 5'10 185 lb LH center is a bit redundant with Frost on the roster. In both cases it's a gamble, but Frost is a lot cheaper.

Koivu to me if they can sign him to a relatively inexpensive one year deal makes more sense, he's still a top defensive player, plays the PK, and could mentor Bunnaman in the 4C role. Raffl - Koivu - NAK would be a shutdown 4th line, replace Raffl with Laughton at 4LW and you have the PK covered.

I'm confused because I'm not sure whether I watched the same Flyers team as some of you this year. Are people really complaining about Hayes' performance? He was on several occasions, particularly in the playoffs, one of the few players who actually performed as expected.
You must’ve had really low expectations for him in the playoffs then, because he wasn’t good at all.

Gretzky as a coach told his players to look for the third man into the zone, not the covered second man skating with you. Hayes has this weird tendency to wait for that player, and then watch him skate by, then wait for the next player, and then lose the puck.
LOL! You owe me a monitor cleaning, coffee everywhere!

Hayes makes some great plays, but some real boneheaded ones too. Something happened to him in the bubble. He played some good games, scored a couple goals, but then he started looking confused and just hanging onto the puck like he thought he was in PeeWee again playing keep away. Just kept stickhandling until they took it off him. WTF was that all about?

I think what it really comes down to is that he has some solid skills and he's big, and he's fun to have around the frat house, but he's really not very smart.

It's baffling to me. I just assume those who are complaining about him were against the signing and that's driving their perceptions. Hayes is a very good player who fills a huge void at second-line center. Also an excellent PKer, to boot.

That's by far my biggest problem with Hayes as a player.

He'll have a bunch flashy moments where he does really well, whether that be a fancy goal or playing keep-away to kill time on the PK, but then he'll spend an incredible amount of time and effort trying to cancel out those positives with really dumb stuff. Now obviously every player makes mistakes, so that alone wouldn't be enough of a reason to get on his case, but the thing about Hayes is that so often his mistakes are conscious decisions he's making and are 100% preventable.

The puck-hogging is the biggest example, which was a problem all year and then got turned up to an 11-out-of-10 in the playoffs. It seemed like every other shift he was out there just holding the puck and circling, instead of making the easy and obvious pass to a teammate, inevitably turning it over to the opponent.

Playoff Hayes honestly reminded me of a rookie who wants to carry his team in the big league like he did in juniors. He lost the line between putting in the extra effort and making a solo effort.

To be fair, he didn't have the ideal linemates, Farabee was not ready for prime time and TK was in an awful funk, and is better suited to a speed center for open ice plays than working his way in position for a one timer - and that's why he often looks bad on the PP.

Someone like Lindblom would be a good fit, Hayes knows he'll be around the net after he digs out the puck and feeds it to Hayes. Farabee might be much better this year, he just struggled with the physical aspect of playoff hockey, needs more protein shakes.

the one time he really did it was when he stole it in the Neutral zone, passed it to tk, who quickly passed it back and he scored. Thats why we just have to give him jvr and farabee and keep him away from g/voravek/tk/lindblom. If he can learn to play differently he can be more effective

lindblom can be a great fit on any line but I don't want to put him with hayes. id rather have him with couts or helping frost out

Lindblom should not be with Couts, he's the one forward who plays as well away from Couts, so put someone there who is aided by playing with Couts. That way Lindblom can help another center while Couts raises the game of another forward.

Hayes is the kid in Atom that was miles better than everyone else and would stick handle through everyone and do what he wants.

Problem is now he sometime plays like that, less the miles better than everyone else part.

Lindblom - Coots - TK were dominant together last year, so I wouldn't rule that out just for the sake of another line.

I'm sure lots of combinations will be tried either way.

Speaking of Hayes, from the main boards: Speculation: - Jimmy Hayes Hearing Trade Rumors

"To my knowledge Jimmy Hayes has never broken a trade so take it for what it’s worth. However he works out with Danato every day, his brother plays for Philly and both Jimmy and Kevin are close friends with Gaudreau, and Brady Tkachuk is his cousin."

Holy shit  Would anyone blame me if I took this guy's entire existence personally? Seriously.
