not impressed with alexis at all . I know hes 17.. but for a guy whos hyped to be #1 pick in 2020 draft he's not looking like it at all... could we have another diagle on our hands ?

Lafreniere hasn't looked great in these live viewings either, but we have to remember how much younger he is than most of the competition here. Not too many 17 year olds two draft years away light it up in this tournament. I do wonder if Kirby Dach or Dylan Cozens could have made a bigger impact as 2019 draft-eligible prospects and likely top-10 picks, but it's only been two games and Lafreniere tends to rise to the occasion when the stakes get higher. He was a bit better and more noticeable tonight against Switzerland than he was against Denmark, he had the one chance on the doorstep set up by Anderson-Dolan, so baby steps with him. I wouldn't write him off as "the next Daigle" or a bust just yet! He's adjusting to a whole new level and once he does adjust, he could still emerge as a difference-maker as the tournament progresses IMO.

surely someone in 2020 can challenge him for #1 pick? the lundell kid for finlaand looks decent..

Holy over reaction.

Daigle never really loved hockey, he was just good at it. That’s not case with Lafreniere.

He’ll be just fine.

There are several challengers as we saw at the under-18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton this summer, but not many of them are playing in this under-20 showcase. Against his own age group, Lafreniere has always dominated. Remember, some of these prospects he’s currently competing against were first-round picks two years ago and he’s still two years (1.5 seasons) away from get drafted. Keep that in mind when watching him in this tournament.

Honestly the whole team doesn’t look great right now...

Didn’t look great tonight, agreed, it was a letdown from the beatdown of Denmark when Canada looked absolutely dominant. I’m fairly confident they will get back to that level against the Czech Republic but obviously can’t afford an “off game” like tonight in the medal round.
