Welcome back Canafan. I was wondering what happened to ya.

Brobergs an exciting prospect. I would have no problem if they picked him. His skills are elite

I'm also very high on Broberg, I think he could be like a physically dominant version of Miro Heiskanen, well-rounded skating defenseman who wants to make a difference. He can also play the right side, and having him and Quinn would be fun to watch for our transition game.

Interesting thing about Broberg is that he only switched over to Defense when he was 13/14. Was a Centre up until that point and was convinced to make the switch at a hockey camp. I was previously hesitant about him due to his rawness and difficulties making defensive reads but it's a lot more understandable if he's only been playing the position for 4-5 years. Reminds me of Jovanovski in that his learning curve may be steeper than most.

This a big reach. You think that there is something you learn when you're 11-12 that Broberg hasn't already picked up?

4 or 5 yrs when your 17 is a lifetime. He is raw or lacks hockey IQ because thats who he is. Nothing to do with switching to defense when he was 12.

???? Heiskanen has elite hockey iq, offence and defense. The only thing that Broberg shares with Heiskanen is elite skating at this point. He's definitely intriguing though. I saw him live at wjc twice and was impressed but Heiskanen!!! Guy has got teammates saying hes a sure fire HOFer.

Also consider that he is still 17 until June 25th. So by the start of his first professional year he had been playing D for only 2 or 3 years. Pretty impressive when one takes into account the timeline. I would have no problem with Broberg at 10 but I feel this is a year to take a forward at the spot.

I like Podkolzin, Cozens, Kaliyev, and Boldy more than others but I don’t like Caulfield and Broberg as much as most ppl here.

I don’t agree. Defensive IQ is partly natural, partly coaching and experience. A guy who has only spent 3-4 years at a position and is still considered a potential top 10 pick is pretty damn impressive IMO. Players aren’t done developing at 17, so you need to look at trajectory as much as where they are at the moment.

Ya I still prefer Zegras and Boldy and wouldn’t be unhappy with Newhook or Caufield. Hard no to Podkolzin (I saw massive tunnel vision in his game at U18’s) and Soderstrom (5’11 defensive defensemen shouldn’t be drafted top 10). Broberg isn’t my top pick but I can see the upside.

I think Broberg has the highest ceiling in this draft but he has to be developed properly..... and I don't trust our coaching/management staff with that.

He is an elite skater though, which is rare for a player his size. Him and Hughes would be a fun pair to watch for years to come.......

I don’t think Broberg has the hands or natural offensive talent to be anything more than a defensive defencmen with a good first pass. His stick handling is choppy with a lack of control with the puck.

He could turn into a top shutdown type player but I wouldn’t expect to much offence.

Having seen Broberg I can be happy with this pick, I would much prefer a forward because they are more exciting to track their progress and such, but from my viewings if Broberg he is very patient with the puck defending in his own end, makes a really good breakout skate or pass, not sure on his shot but let’s be honest unless you are ripping one from the top of the face off you aren’t getting much past a goalie from the point unless it’s redirected or he is screened. Getting pucks through is much more important than putting the heat behind your shot, Brobergs timing and patience would be an asset for that

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Hawks take they're favourite centre at 3 OA instead of Byram (probably Turcotte). That's where things get interesting because you gotta figure the Avs are eyeing a center as well (also probably Turcotte).
Long term, they could use either a C or D. Just depends who they believe will be the best player over their 20's.

Keith is from the 2002 draft, Toews from the 2006 draft. Keith is 35, while Toews is 31. Assuming their pick doesn't play in the NHL this season (ie. burn an ELC year at the end of the season), Hawks will get that player coming off their ELC when Keith is 39 and Toews is 35. Both contracts ends in 2023, which times up perfectly with when this pick comes off their ELC.

Hawks have drafted 3 D in round 1 the past 3 seasons. So, there is depth there. They have Strome at C now.

Just a matter of where they opt to go.

Colorado, for right now, would love a 2C, but it's a matter of how quickly that player can impact their team. I would expect them to use other assets to try to upgrade their 2nd line. I think if Turcotte is there, they take him. If he's gone and it's between Byram and Dach, I think they take Byram. But, wouldn't be shocked if it was Dach, as they have #16, so they can have a legit shot at one of Broberg, Harley, York, etc.

Last year I was in Dallas at the draft and they had a pre-draft party with some live music etc. Is there something similar in Vancouver this year? I can't find any info on it

Some interview numbers via Mark Scheig:

Thomas Harley - 26 teams
Ryan Suzuki - 29 teams(Not Colorado or SJ)
Philip Tomasino - 30 teams(Colorado)
Jonathan Beecher - 27 teams
Albin Grewe - 23 teams
Ville Heinola - 29 teams

Moritz Seider also met with all 31 teams.

Combine chatter as well according to him is there appears to be a sense it's a "3 horse race" between Byram, Turcotte and Zygras for Chicago's pick.

I think there is a very strong chance that Canucks will land Podkolzin. I would be ecstatic if that happens, he is a high a value pick from 10.

I'm also totally fine with it. Assuming he develops as projected, he'd be a beast of a winger for Pettersson. One inadvertent upside may be that he can't come over for 2-years so our present development system can't ruin him.

There was a good one from last year that let you make trades and stuff too.

I believe there is no chance the Canucks draft Podkolzin. They want a high ceiling prospect. Also, they won’t go near a Russian given their track record

What do people think about domnick fensore, he's a 5'7" dman who played for the USA ntdp in pronmans 107 prospects for 2019 he pins him as a kid with excellent skating, puck skills, compete level, and hockey sense. If he was 6' he'd probably go top 5 from the sounds of him. Also a September 01 bday so very young.

Anyways he mentions the possiblity of drafting him and converting him to forward And really he would be pretty much the same size as caulfield. If he's there at our 3rd or 4th would you take a risk on him and hope he either has a late growth spurt or can convert to forward?
