If NJ comes calling for Quinn Hughes on draft day, what would they have to give for you to make the trade? I figure Ty Smith would need to be come back but what is the appropriate add? They would need to overpay. I'd imagine uniting the Hughes brothers on draft day as they announce the 1 OA pick would generate a fair bit of excitement in NJ.

Q Hughes for Ty Smith + Zacha/McLeod

Q Hughes + 2nd for Hischier (unrealistic I assume)

No to both, no need to Hischier when we have Horvat and Petey down the middle already and why would the Canucks swap Hughes for Smith just for the Devils to have brothers?

Edit: The only way the Hughes brothers are together is if the Devils trade us the #1 pick basically

Would not touch either of those deals- not even close for me

I would try to fleece them: Nico Hischier + Ty Smith for Quinn Hughes. They obviously won't do that, but if they come to us wanting to reunite the brothers it's going to really hurt for them. Otherwise I'm extremely happy to keep Quinn.

I'd do Hughes + #10 for a signed Hall.

Gross. Hall doesn’t have a good hockey IQ, he’s just a more talented version of Booth/Virtanen.

I know he won the Hart, but I think that’s an outlier and he’ll generally be a PPG player. We need dmen so Hughes fills a bigger need and we’ll likely get a good player at 10th overall.

Not to mention the salary cap freedom of having Quinn Hughes on an entry level contract for a couple more years

I like the trade going the other way
Horvat and 10th overall with some minor adds

I was going to say the exact same thing. Hischier + Smith or no dream scenario for them.

The Canucks aren’t in a position to move Hughes and futures for him, but calling Taylor Hall a more talented version of Virtanen is like calling Erik Karlsson a more talented version of Derrick Pouliot.

Taylor Hall when healthy is a top 5 winger in the sport and an absolute force of nature.

Hall in his 21 and 22 year old season was 5th in the NHL in points per game behind only Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos and Getzlaf. While being one of the best possession driving forwards in the NHL.

In 2013 Hall was the best winger in the NHL and would have won the Hart Trophy if Edmonton squeezed in the playoffs.

Taylor Hall has been wasted on horrible teams, but this player is absolutely magic.

Some speculation that Caufield could be a guy the Canucks are keen on:

As noted, Caufield makes some sense if the draft goes by consensus. At that point you'd be picking between Caufield, Newhook, Podkolzin, and one of the defensemen. I'd probably lean toward Podkolzin, but I can see the thinking around Caufield given the Canucks fondness for the USNTDP. He'll probably be the only guy from the U.S. program left in that range at 10 OA.

Is it weird I think they might consider it...

If they're not sold on hischier being the impact player of his draft hype, and having jack. And quinn being a big upgrade on ty smith in their mind, especially playing with his brother and ticket sales etc etc...

I dunno doesn't seem tooooo ridiculous

You can definitely make an argument for it, for sure. I think it's a big enough overpayment to make it worth doing from our perspective. Ty Smith I think has the potential to be a 40 point puck moving defenseman, and Hischier is a 1st or 2nd line forward. It's the type of move I would be comfortable with, even if there's that added uncertainty with taking away from an already weak defense.

Not really worried about it tbh. If he was 4 inches taller hed be a top 3 pick.
His skating isn’t as good as you would expect from someone on the smaller side. Should have something about his skating that is great to compensate for the lack of size be it speed, quickness, strength on his skates.

But that size.....
Get him taller skates,,just kidding..
He has a ton of talent for sure.He could turn into the next Kane,or he could end up another petrus palmu.
The draft is full of hits and misses.
Sometimes a get a gem(Pettersson).
If Caufield is there as well as Newhhook,,I'm not sure who I would take really,as I kinda like them both.

Assuming the top 6 consists of: Hughes, Kakko, Byrum, Turcotte, Cozens, Dach then my order would be:

Boldy, Caufield, Zegras

I'll be pretty disheartened if all 9 names are gone by our pick and we have to choose between Podkolzkin, Krebs, Newhook or the defencemen.

Deep rounds stuff, I like Ronnie Attard and Matej Blumel from the USHL as targets.

Seeing that the Canucks finally have some extra picks late in the draft I'd like to see them gamble on some highly productive overage players in that range.
