Here's the way I look at this draft orchestrated by Joe D. He addressed for the most part most of the needs the team had heading into the draft. He got two more pieces to the O-Line(Becton, Clark), one of whom should be the LT for the next 10 years god willing. He got a backup RB(Perine) and QB(Morgan) both of whom who have some upside. He got a couple of defensive backs(Davis and Hall) both of whom could be starters for us in the next year or two if certain things occur.

And getting Mims was masterstroke of both luck and genius. To put it in perspective Joe Douglas turned moving down 11 spots into 2 4th round picks and a future 6th, while still getting the guy most of us Jets fans wanted.

I know it's terrible to compare but we need too. MM only picked 3 good players in his ENTIRE time with the Jets. Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, and Sam Darnold. I'd bet a large chunk of my hefty mortgage, Joe D is going to end up alot more successful than that beginning with this past draft.

Was this the perfect draft? Obviously not. Will Douglass make some mistakes? Obviously. Heck some in here are already saying he f'd up taking the wrong RB, QB and Punter all positions of need. Call me nuts but I'll take my chances and trust Douglass knows better than you and I about these guys he selected....I know wacky of me....lol

That said, dunno about you guys but this is as good as I have felt coming out of the draft since I can't remember. JD looks like a guy who likely will turn into the best GM we've had since possibly the days of when the Jets were really good back in the mid 80's.

JD is going to build this team from the trenches on out and it's going to be mostly thru the draft instead of FA for the most part.

Bottom line boys, we got a legit GM now...he knows what the F he's doing and it is AWESOME because that never happens to the Jets...someone in charge who knows what he's doing and has a plan....imagine that!!

That's all I have to say....cheers gents and stay safe!!

Overall, pretty happy with the Giants draft. Potential book-end tackles. Love McKinney falling to the 2nd for us. And intrigued on Holmes - a cousin alum from USC said they recruited him hard, but thinks he ended up getting poor coaching at UCLA and is a naturally gifted stud who could be great in NFL with better coaching.

I just truly don't understand who will be rushing the passer this season. I'm of the belief you can have as many talented dbs as possible on the field, but if the opposing quarterback regularly has all day to throw, it doesn't matter.

So I'm afraid I tend to agree with a previous poster, the Giants are probably going to suck again this year. As far as defense goes, I see Jenkins vs. Bradberry as a wash. McKinney should be an improvement from Bethea but he'll be a rookie FS so there will no doubt be growing pains, Martinez should be a slight improvement from Ogletree I suppose. But other than that, and subtracting our best pass-rusher in Golden, how is this defense going to be better? Everyone keeps saying Graham will scheme a pass rush... well, that's kind of the same thing we heard with Bettcher who was supposed to be a defensive genius before he was faced with a roster devoid of talent. According to this website, Graham had literally the last ranked defense in the league with Miami last season - 2019 NFL Opposition & Defensive Statistics | Pro-Football-Reference.com So clearly he didn't scheme them into any kind of impressiveness.

And, to follow up on an earlier post about wishing Gettleman had traded back, I just find myself frustrated with the speed with which this rebuild seems to be going. In my opinion, he inherited a roster with A TON of holes. To me, that would necessitate a rebuild built around amassing as many draft picks as possible. You can't really tank your way into contention in the NFL, and his method of sitting tight in his draft slots and drafting best player at position of need, seems to me like it's going to take too long to do this right. All of these first round talents (Saquon, Jones, Thomas) are going to GET PAID when their rookie deals are up. Are there other teams in the NFL built around top 10 picks at QB, RB, OT? I'm no salary cap expert, but can a team really afford that much $$$ invested in its offense? And next year we'll likely have another top 10 pick.

All that said, I love the Giants, I will continue to cheer for them as long as I live - and if they do well I will appreciate that and give praise to those who made it happen. But for me, as of now, Gettleman still has a loooooooooong way to go to prove to me he's actually built a sustained contender in NY.

The pass rusher theory seems sound but there's analytics that say that the secondary is much more important and the Patriots, Judge's former employer seem to run their defense that way. I guess it's easier to manufacture pressure than coverage.

Giants should be hugely better this season.
The Jets lack BOOM but have a solid base to build on.

I think the Giants will be better, but they still have a long way to go. They easily could have been the worst team in the league last season if it weren't for a lucky win against TB and a superstar performance by Daniel Jones against Washington.

They have a really tough schedule this season. The only guaranteed wins are against Cincinnati and at least one against Washington. There are a few other games that could easily be wins, but there are at least 6 guaranteed losses (SF, TB, BAL, SEA, and at least two against DAL and PHI) and probably a lot more. Their offense outside of DJ and Saquon is pretty meh and their defense, especially the DLine, still isn't good.

I hope I'm wrong and a better OLine will turn Saquon into a generational running back, and both of those will let Daniel Jones shine as a superstar. But more likely the Giants are one year away from being a bubble playoff team and two years away from being a playoff contender.

The most underrated question for the Giants D: How will Ryan Connelly come back from his injury? That guy was probably their best defensive player before getting hurt.

As bad as this sounds, we got lucky he got injured early in the season rather than late. Not like we would have contended for anything with him playing 15 games and getting hurt in game 16, so he has almost a full year to recover. Provided he comes back at full strength, it looks like we might have hit out of the ball park last year in the 5th round. Two solid starters.

But then we let our best pass rusher walk unfortunately and thus far without a replacement.

Right, but our personnel was worse than the rank, either way, I think Bettcher was able to manufacture a pass rush. Also, I read that Golden is still in play for the Giants. I liked him, hard-working productive player.

Gettleman has pounded away at the secondary. This is year 3 of his rebuild. And second coach. I expect this team to be closer to 8-8.
If they look like the same dogpile they were last season that just means nothing has worked out at all. And that would be disappointing .

Happy with the draft. Pash rusher in the first round weren’t great after Young. Probably gonna be trash again next year and draft Edge/LB high. Smart to take Secondary and OL this year and develop them. Excited for the future. Pretty dope the Giants and Jets are both doing good things. It seems like they go back and forth shitting the bed.

I'd love for them to bring back Golden. I'm thinking they're trying to wait him out and hope his terms drop a bit.

I actually, as a rule, root against the Jets, haha. So I love it when they blow the draft. But figured it would be dickish to not colaborate in this thread.

Jets got a "real" GM now who actually knows what the F he's doing and so laughing at Jets drafts are over and yes it started this past weekend.

I realize that's disappointing but you'll have to deal with it!...:)

Haha, our GM seems quite bipolar. He's either amazing or terrible, no in-between. One thing is for certain, he's not the imbecile a lot of people think he is. I don't understand why he plays up to the fact that he's a moron with the media and doesn't sound a little more GM-like.

I root for both just fine, lolol. ;)

The McKinney pick sealed the NYG draft for me. Some of the best Giants seasons had a solid D line, 3 safeties, and almost no competent linebackers. Rolle-Phillips-Grant was the best

No offense but I always took people who root for both teams as casual fans.

Not sure I'd classify them as casual fans but I don't see how you can root for both the Jets and Giants. Same with Mets and Yankees...how do you root for them both? Your one or the other is the way I grew up.

For Jet fans, we've always been in the shadow of the Giants whether it be playing in their stadium or success wise. I know for me I don't exactly hate the Giants but I certainly don't root for them to do well as I'd love for the Jets to one day rule the city and have the Giants look up too us.

I dunno, maybe I'm old school and newer fans can have allegiances to both NY football teams. I personally couldn't fathom it.

So I'm barely a casual football fan, but what's the expectation of NFL draft classes compared to the NHL? I'm assuming given the age of the players being taken that teams expect to get more than 1 or 2 viable players out of a draft?

I find that the top players in the NFL draft are a little bit less of a sure thing than the top players in the NHL, but the depth is leaps and bounds better in the NFL draft.
