Okay not a bad draft for the Jets. Really good first day, great second day, mediocre third day. Here are all of their selections....

1 (11) OT: Mekhi Becton (Louisville)
2 (59) WR: Denzel Mims (Baylor)
3 (68) S: Ashyton Davis (California)
3 (79) Edge: Jabari Zuniga (Florida)
4 (120) RB: La'Mical Perine (Florida)
4 (125) QB: James Morgan (Florida International)
4 (129) OG: Cameron Clarke (Charlotte)
5 (158) CB: Bryce Hall (Virginia)
6 (191) P: Braden Mann (Texas A&M)

*Also will count 4-year pro CB, Quincy Wilson, here. They traded their last pick for him and he'll be a good backup or third string.*

The Becton pick is as good as it gets for the spot, need and player. Think he really will thrive under Williams' scheme. Love the trade back and still was able to pick up a big time WR in Mims. Can easily be a top WR if not middle of this coming season then next for sure. I love the pickup of Davis. He's a freak athlete, did anyone see the hurdles clip? He plays safety, corner and is a return man. Solid pick up. I like the pick for Edge, but not necessarily the player. Wanted Weaver here, but Zuniga has some explosiveness to his start-up. We'll see what happens with him under Williams. Perine pick confuses me because he's not that fast, but he is really physical and can find the seams. Not sure how he'll develop, but he could be a backup some day. I like the Morgan pick, unlike most. I think that he can become a very solid QB some day (maybe like a Fitzpatrick). I don't think it'll be for the Jets if Darnold sticks around and is the obvious choice. He does have accuracy issues, so he'll need some time. A lot of the analysts were hyping the Clarke pick. Hopefully they are right, I don't have any insight on him. Most see him as a guard in the NFL. Love the Hall pick, great snag from a falling player in the draft, similar to Bless Austin last draft. Love to see what he can do if healthy. As for punter, sure, whatever. Seems like Edwards is not returning. FWIW, the analysts on ESPN were saying that he could be a pro-bowler and a chance to be a top-5 punter in the league. I will always commend a GM to flip picks for actually proven talent/depth, so a 6th rounder (No. 211) for a 4- year depth corner is a solid trade.

I'd give the Jets a B for this crop. Love the first 3 picks (Becton, Mims, Davis) as well as trading for Wilson and health of Hall, but I'm not sold yet on the others.

1. Thanks for the recap and solid commentary
2. Generally agree, I was a tad more generous, although little of this is a given in advance of how things turn out.

My grade is a high of A-B+
I like/love most of what was done.

I too have reservations on the Zuniga and Perine selections.
Not to suggest they are useless, just that I'm so damn disgusted w/this OL, I would have looked for more there, even tho our GM has obtained fresh blood, I'm not sure how good they are, but they can't be worse than the crap crop of recent seasons.

As for Morgan, he fills a niche.
Supposedly his heart was set on GB, and I wonder what their depth is at that position after Rogers and the heir apparent with this draft.
If a combo of events happens, we may be able to upgrade going forward.
Let's say this kid applies himself.
We know he's got the arm, but what about the rest?
Let's say he advances, but is not can't miss.
I could see Packers looking at Rogers as a #2 since Rogers I give 2-3 yrs max.

Now we should develop a guy behind Darnold, but we can get a yr out of Rogers before flipping him for a 3rd + if he's developed enough.

I'm sure some vets will also garner a look.

Like I said, we just need to be extra careful with our better starters, taking care not to have excess/avoidable injuries on special teams.

I gotta say I really liked the Jets 3rd day.

Perine seems like a Powell clone. Not flashy, but effective backup RB. I'll take that.

Morgan may be a project but he has all the tools of an NFL starter. Every team came away impressed with him. With 3 picks in the 4th, what the hell why not? After seeing Seimien and Falk last year, it's time to groom our own backup.

Clark I had never heard of but it seems like every scout loves him. Interesting thing here is he trains with Becton and he's projected as a guard. These 2 could solidify the left side for years.

Hall is a low risk high reward guy. If he didn't get hurt this year he probably goes in the 1st with the run it had on CB's.

And the punter. Well it's about time they invested into special teams. It may not be flashy but this kid can punt the shit out of the ball. With the bounty of picks we had this year, I'll take a chance on this guy. Scouts see him as an all-pro.

All in all there's a ton of high upside in these picks. As always, they're not all gonna pan out. But with 5 picks today, I feel pretty good about Clark, Perine and Mann becoming legit players. Getting 3 roster players on the 3rd day is a home run and something Jets fans aren't used too.

agree except I am less bullish on Perine but I'm uncertain and hope I'm wrong.

Jets busy after the draft signing a lot of defensive guys and a WR!!

DT: Sterling Johnson (Coastal Carolina)
CB: Lamar Jackson (Nebraska)
CB: Javelin Guirdy (Utah)
DT: Domenique Davis (UNC-Pembrooke)
LB: Bryce Huff (Memphis)
WR: Lawrence Cager (Georgia)

thanks for the update
wow. LJ was highly touted as among best still available

hopefully we get lucky
best corners, IMO are Shawn Springs type very good size, superior height nice speed.

still, fresh blood for the roster, so meh at best last year, is a good thing

Pretty good draft for the Giants.

The Giants will suck this season. It looks another 4-12 season with a best-case scenario 6-10, worst-case scenario 2-14. Let the core develop for another season. Hopefully they don't do something stupid and fire Joe Judge. Gettleman should probably go, though.

2020 NFL Draft grades for all 32 teams | College Football and NFL Draft | PFF

Giants get an A, Jets get a B+

Jets fans, lots of praise for Hall.
I always get a kick out of draft grades. I saw this reading the grades on, it was either CBS or NFL.com. Or somewhere else big. Literally every team was getting an A or a B. This PFF thing 25 teams were given an A or B. What are we supposed to take away from that? "Pretty much everyone did either well or very well!" IDK. I only like looking at the outliers. I mean I gave out a grade to the Jets myself so I'm just as guilty, but I just find it funny when you look at team-by-team grades from one place. Everyone gets a participation trophy except for a few idiot teams.

I generally think Kiper is a jackass--ESPN is trying to make him an old, white, football-only Stephen A. Smith--but I like his recap. He also gave 22 total A/B grades, but only 3 A's. Lots of B's to varying degrees, which seems more appropriate.

It's all a guessing game at this point. Did you fill needs on paper? Did you make any reaches on paper? Find value on paper? You get your grade accordingly. And then a year later the reaches look prescient and the values proved that there was reason for them to slip. It's all silly. It's fun to read but I put zero stock into any of it.

I mean this is how it works in the US educational system. I went through undergrad and grad school and had 1 B- the entire time. If you got below a B in my grad school it was considered bad and I went to a good school, albeit a business school so the material wasn't as tough as STEM. But it was a quant business school.

Yeah, for my Masters degrees it was the same. You needed a B to pass. A C was considered a failing grade at the grad school level.

It's behind a paywall, what did he give the Giants and Jets?

Sorry, didn't realize that. They both were given B's.

For NYG he said he would have gone Wills or Wirfs instead of Thomas. Really liked McKinney, liked Peart who could be a starter, said Holmes will be a good slot corner, Lemieux could be a starter down the road. Is interested to see how Coughlin develops.

For NYJ he didn't really comment on Becton, other than his upside. Said Mins could be a #1. Liked Davis, said Zuniga has some skill. Like me, thought Perine was a reach and that Morgan was a reach, particularly with Fromm available. Really liked Clark and Mann. Surprisingly said nothing about Hall, who behind Becton and Mins, probably has more legitimate upside than anyone in the NYJ class.

I quibble with some of his stuff, but in general I just liked that he only had three A's. In general most teams do pretty well at addressing their needs, so that should be considered more or less the "average" draft, IMO.

On a side note, that PFF thing was crazy. I generally like PFF, but sometimes they have some stuff that makes you scratch your head. They said not only was Becton not a top five tackle prospect, he wasn't even a top forty player on their board. That's craziness. They had him 45th! According to them, both Davis and Mims would have been a better choice at 11 than Becton. Does anyone else actually believe that?

PFF has their own way of grading these guys and they often aren't consistent with popular opinion. I think it's also a marketing ploy to show people they're the smartest guys in the room. And I say that with them not saying anything bad about any of our guys.

I generally like what the Giants did by starting to address the OLine and LB depth however 3 concerns:

1. That second round pick better be a HR along with Baker getting better. Other than Landon Collins the Giants haven't been good at drafting secondary in forever.

2. The WR depth is awful. I know it will be addressed and that's probably the easiest position to fix once the OLine and pass rushers are taken care of, but there is zero depth. It's Slayton and a bunch of questions marks. Tate is a year older and he was already pretty old, Shepard is great but he's very close to unfortunately becoming Al Toon with multiple concussions, Coleman is returning from a serious injury, and Core is a backup depth receiver at best. Maybe convert Engram to a receiver already? He's a question mark as well. Barkley can't do it all by himself.

3. Still not enough pass rushers and what that will do is put more pressure on the secondary.

4. Address the center? You have a developing QB who is prone to turnovers and you have negative center depth.

There is the possibility that Judge and his staff inject this young team with some energy and they have an 05-06 Rangers type season and somehow go like 8-8 or 9-7 but this is most likely going to be like a 6-10 team at best. Too many holes and Gettleman may find himself gone after this year.

Gotta love Cimini’s recap.

Questions why Mims went when he did- did the Jets miss out on Van Jefferson cause the Steelers chose him over Mims and the Steelers are smart.

definitely had 2 write ups ready for this. Jets pick a OT- “should the Jets have waited on a tackle with such great WR available”

Jets go WR 11th “hard to justify taking a skill player with such a massive hole on the OL and a top T available”

You just f***ing know it
