Pretty good start for the Jets, IMO. Becton pick was very solid. The finesse trade back and still being able to grab a WR like Mims and get another pick is GOLD. The Davis pick is sneaky good; safety, corner and kick return is a freak athlete. The Zuniga pick is the only question-mark I have, ATM, but he also looks really good popping off the line quick. ...

My read is almost identical as to these....
HAD to go OL on our 1st; Becton has some risk of falling but freakish speed to with that size, thus also highest ceiling

Mims, we gambled and won.
Glad, cause we might have gotten screwed.
But full props to our new guy.
Mims not the most complete, but analysts show he has superior speed, etc.

Davis is very good, imo.
Should be great as FS w/Adams stud factor at SS.
Hopefully we get lucky and have enough size/reach at corner while still high level speed.

One cautionary note:
Giants had a great S, Jason Seahorn, and they tried to also get return mileage out of him. Got away w/it for a bit, but then he got injured and was never the same. Translation: the value of DBs as productive position players outweighs benefit of return specialist. Invest 1 roster slot for 1 guy to do both KO and punt returns.

Zuniga I don't know about either.

The rest of the picks seem to be plausible enough.
Like our selection for reserve QB even if he is a raw project. cost us only a late pick.

Jason Sehorn was a corner, maybe he played safety at some point though.

Okay not a bad draft for the Jets. Really good first day, great second day, mediocre third day. Here are all of their selections....

1 (11) OT: Mekhi Becton (Louisville)
2 (59) WR: Denzel Mims (Baylor)
3 (68) S: Ashyton Davis (California)
3 (79) Edge: Jabari Zuniga (Florida)
4 (120) RB: La'Mical Perine (Florida)
4 (125) QB: James Morgan (Florida International)
4 (129) OG: Cameron Clarke (Charlotte)
5 (158) CB: Bryce Hall (Virginia)
6 (191) P: Braden Mann (Texas A&M)

*Also will count 4-year pro CB, Quincy Wilson, here. They traded their last pick for him and he'll be a good backup or third string.*

The Becton pick is as good as it gets for the spot, need and player. Think he really will thrive under Williams' scheme. Love the trade back and still was able to pick up a big time WR in Mims. Can easily be a top WR if not middle of this coming season then next for sure. I love the pickup of Davis. He's a freak athlete, did anyone see the hurdles clip? He plays safety, corner and is a return man. Solid pick up. I like the pick for Edge, but not necessarily the player. Wanted Weaver here, but Zuniga has some explosiveness to his start-up. We'll see what happens with him under Williams. Perine pick confuses me because he's not that fast, but he is really physical and can find the seams. Not sure how he'll develop, but he could be a backup some day. I like the Morgan pick, unlike most. I think that he can become a very solid QB some day (maybe like a Fitzpatrick). I don't think it'll be for the Jets if Darnold sticks around and is the obvious choice. He does have accuracy issues, so he'll need some time. A lot of the analysts were hyping the Clarke pick. Hopefully they are right, I don't have any insight on him. Most see him as a guard in the NFL. Love the Hall pick, great snag from a falling player in the draft, similar to Bless Austin last draft. Love to see what he can do if healthy. As for punter, sure, whatever. Seems like Edwards is not returning. FWIW, the analysts on ESPN were saying that he could be a pro-bowler and a chance to be a top-5 punter in the league. I will always commend a GM to flip picks for actually proven talent/depth, so a 6th rounder (No. 211) for a 4- year depth corner is a solid trade.

I'd give the Jets a B for this crop. Love the first 3 picks (Becton, Mims, Davis) as well as trading for Wilson and health of Hall, but I'm not sold yet on the others.

I gotta say I really liked the Jets 3rd day.

Perine seems like a Powell clone. Not flashy, but effective backup RB. I'll take that.

Morgan may be a project but he has all the tools of an NFL starter. Every team came away impressed with him. With 3 picks in the 4th, what the hell why not? After seeing Seimien and Falk last year, it's time to groom our own backup.

Clark I had never heard of but it seems like every scout loves him. Interesting thing here is he trains with Becton and he's projected as a guard. These 2 could solidify the left side for years.

Hall is a low risk high reward guy. If he didn't get hurt this year he probably goes in the 1st with the run it had on CB's.

And the punter. Well it's about time they invested into special teams. It may not be flashy but this kid can punt the shit out of the ball. With the bounty of picks we had this year, I'll take a chance on this guy. Scouts see him as an all-pro.

All in all there's a ton of high upside in these picks. As always, they're not all gonna pan out. But with 5 picks today, I feel pretty good about Clark, Perine and Mann becoming legit players. Getting 3 roster players on the 3rd day is a home run and something Jets fans aren't used too.

I didn't like Perine. He's slow and doesn't really do anything really well. I always remember being unimpressed with him when I saw him. Everyone had him pegged as a backup. Just seems like we could have addressed this either through taking a long look at some UDFA guys or some guys during cutdowns (if that happens).

The QB, he's a developmental guy. That does nothing for us right now. Our problem is we have no backup. Can this guy be a good backup in a few years? Maybe? But then why take him now. Why not spend the money, which we have, on a competent backup, and then worry about the developmental guy in a year when you hopefully are closer to competing and have fewer holes to plug. It just seemed like addressing a need that wasn't a pressing need. Like Davis wasn't a huge need, but you can easily understand that one because there's a very real chance he'll be needed by next season.

That's okay though, I've never in my life seen a draft where I liked all the picks. I liked the general approach to the whole thing, even if I didn't agree with all the logic.

Yeah definitely, I called it mediocre because I think the potential is very unknown out of their day three guys. We'll see how they develop.

My totally useless day of draft grades:

Becton B
Mims and the trade down A
Davis B+
Zuniga C
Perine D
Morgan D
Clark B+
Hall A
Mann D
Quincy Wilson Trade C-

I would go overall somewhere between a B/B+. I have no value for the QB/RB/P. Don't really care for trading for a guy trending toward a bust who could be a cut already in camp, would rather have taken a player with years left in a contract, but it's a non-issue really.

The offensive line additions were good, loved the WR addition, wish we drafted another, and the two secondary adds I really liked in Hall and Davis.

I didn’t love the 4th round for the Jets but it’s not a huge deal. The one pick I really didn’t like was Perine - especially with McFarland sitting there. Really loved McFarland every time I saw Maryland

overall I’m happy with the draft. Think they did a real good job and vastly improved the OL in the off-season

Jets busy after the draft signing a lot of defensive guys and a WR!!

DT: Sterling Johnson (Coastal Carolina)
CB: Lamar Jackson (Nebraska)
CB: Javelin Guirdy (Utah)
DT: Domenique Davis (UNC-Pembrooke)
LB: Bryce Huff (Memphis)
WR: Lawrence Cager (Georgia)
Cager and Huff are good gets. I don't know much about the rest.

this is me finding out that Bern is a Jets fan. One of us! gooble gobble gooble gobble...
