figured we have a direct place to talk about 2019 prospects not involving another sites mock draft..

we could be a lotto team again depending what goes down here this weekend and beyond.

this draft has a lot of top centers, right now weaker on the wings so far and defense is not as good, but just a better top end draft at center so having a top 10 pick here could be even better than this year with all those centers available.

If Crow is not healthy then this team will struggle to make the playoffs. There is not a goalie on the market that can fix that issue. If Crow is over what ever his issue is then this team should bounce back.

I am going to assume the forwards and d will bounce back but I am not as confident about Crow.

Not sure people noticed this but both Stan and Q put it on Crow to be healthy come training camp. Go back and listen to how they talked about the situation because it is very interesting in how they phrased things.

Yeap I thought it was kind of unnormal how they said it and when Zawaski talked about it in his latest podcast I kind of felt like they just think Craw has to do the work now to be the same goalie he was. For me it was positive sign but I may’ve read it wrong.

Next couple years are pretty good years to suck though. I dont want to suck but I dont want them either to go buy JVR and every big name for one Cup run because they really cant help the team. Doughty/Karlsson and Stastny and healthy Crawford could put us over the top but we could potentially have only one of them and I dont want to buy Karlsson or Doughty.

I’m jumping on @ChiHawks10 bandwagon. Dont trade future. Sign some depth players or good top-4 D aka De Haan and if some center is available for 1-3 years go for it. No long term contracts. If you have to suck, suck now for 1-2 years.

So far Caufield is probably my favourite in the draft, but honestly I don't put too much stock in these guys until their draft year. A lot can change between now and then.

I want to see more this season but he should be a 1st Round Pick. That said, there's always that risk of him falling similarly.

I bet Debrincat's success has help this kids draft stock.

There’s an article on Athletic about Carolina new owner and how active he was in draft room. He asked his scouts who is the Alex DeBrincat of the 2018 draft. I’m sure AD’s success, along with many other small players, is helping a lot of smaller players get fair looks as real prospects.

@Blue Liner @AmericanDream, others too.

Is Caufield sure 1st round pick or is he gonna probably drop like DeBrincat due to his size?
to go off of what BK said, I think Caufield is more creative/electric on the ice whereas Cat has been more cerebral and opportunistic (right place right time -high IQ player). For what it is worth, Caufield I believe tied or broke Auston Matthews goal record at the USNDP - that says a shit ton of this kid.

I know people right now that have him top 10 and couldn't give two farts about his size. I think he still goes somewhere between 10-20 simply because the game is changing but still risky when you are this small. His skill level is top 5, but we have heard that numerous times over the years with smaller players only to see them still selected outside the top 10. If he tears up his u-18 year and makes the WJC team (which is a loaded forward group for the US), then he has a shot at top 10...definitely a fascinating player to follow this coming year.

I am personally high on the Finish winger.

Yeap, he is the next real deal from Finland.

I have seen him in person against men last season and he played in top-line. And he was the best player. Obviously TPS was trying to win the championship last season so they played the veterans but next season Kakko is going to play with men and TPS fans are slotting him top-6. I live in the city where TPS plays so I’m definitely going to watch him live.

People in Finland think he is going to be better than Rantanen and what really intrigues me is that many, many people in Finland have this Finnish Hossa comparison.. And I can definitely see it. He is so hard to knock off the puck, moves very very good for a big guy, elite shot and the way he stickhandles, oh my.

I know this is way off because Kakko hasnt really done shit but when all is said and done, I think Kakko and Laine are being compared as equal. Laine will win Maurice Richards but Kakko is getting recognition from his overall game while putting monsterous points in NHL.

I think I have never been this high about any Finnish players. Of course he could flop but at the moment he is #2 overall for me and by far the best winger in 2019 draft.

This draft is the first draft in a long long time, an Illinois native could be a top 10 pick. as it stands right now, Turcotte is in my top 5, some think he can be top 3 and challenge Jack Hughes...hopefully this is the start of something big for Illinois youth hockey.

Also, Alex Vlasic is a potential top 31 as well from Wilmette IL....the success of the Hawks over the past 10 years as well as our excellent tier-1 programs should be leading to more Ryan Hartman's and kids like this...crazy it has been so long from the days of Olczyk, Chelios, Granato, and Krygier all south side/south west burbs playing in the NHL..

congrats to Jack Drury this year as well..from Winnetka IL same as John Moore.
