Interesting thought - it's only 30 days and the same calendar year, and Kovalchuk would benefit - but I have no idea if it's allowable...
Yeah, it sounds like something that would raise some eyebrows at the NHL. Not worth drawing their ire over a matter of a month.

So, it seems that the hockey news either jumped the gun or just got plain bad information. Rosen had this tweet about Kovalchuk about an hour ago :

"I don’t know what was reported. I’m a regular player. Everybody’s got a healthy scratch, and we’re in last place, so coach has to do something to change things, and I’m just here every day for the guys, for the team and if they need me, I’m ready to go."
Sounds like he’s just going along with whatever he agreed with Blake and/or being professional (which he has always been).

I agree. Not ready to crucify Blake yet.

But he has about 3 months to deal at least two of Lewis, Carter, Martinez, Quick and Kovalchuk. I don’t mind keeping Martinez and I hope the Kings re-sign Hutton and Clifford.

Lmfao, be realistic Johnny! The bolded are the only likely candidates.. add Toffoli and maybe Campbell to the TDL list

Because people keep bringing up Lombardi as if he was was flawless, forgetting all of the mistakes made that put the team in this mess in the first place. And let’s not forget how his first three years were also a disaster, which is being glossed over.

It would be nice if the new management started with a clean canvas, but they didn’t. They started with absolutely nothing in the pipeline (among the worst in the league) and now have among the best in the league. Just like Lombardi after his first couple of seasons, I’m willing to give this management team a few more seasons before I decide how stupid and inept they are.

I guess some folk don’t realize the double standards and double speak that’s on display when they trash the current state of the team and forget why they’re in this mess in the first place.

People are quick to defend Lombardi because he won two f***ing Stanley Cups with this rudderless franchise after 40 years of abject failure. Don't forget that.

Even considering this, I don't see anyone absolving Lombardi for the terrible moves he made during his last few years. Seriously, point out one person defending the Lucic trade or Richards non-CBO. These people don't exist.

Lastly, people are (rightfully) crapping on Blake and Luc because of THEIR doublespeak. They came into their positions selling us a bill of goods about how the Kings were still Cup contenders. If they would have come in and told us we're going to rebuild, this is how we're going to do it, etc., I think people (including myself) would be more forgiving.

When you start off your tenure literally lying to the fanbase, you're rightfully going to draw fast critics. Is that really unreasonable?

Maybe I missed it, but what lies did current management start with? And look above your posts, someone is somehow defending not buying out Mike Richards.

Come on, Ziggy.

Both Luc and Blake came into their roles selling everyone on the idea that the Kings were still contenders.

The entire Kovalchuk debacle happening right now is a product of this lie/delusion.

That wasn’t a lie, that was putting too much faith in the players and a huge misread on their part. The general consensus was that the first season was an evaluation period to see what this team is made of.

Their misread was in thinking the team that made the playoffs in 2018 and had Hart and Norris Trophy nominees were a piece away from being contenders. A lie would be saying they plan on rebuilding and turning around and spending to the cap and being aggressive in free agency, or saying they plan on contending and then following it up by sitting on their hands and doing nothing. They did something, and it has backfired on them. But that isn’t a lie.

You're calling yourself out in your own post about it not being a lie.

Disagreeing with their evaluation doesn't make their (reasonable) evaluation a lie.

Fanbase was pretty well split on what to do after 2018, and even if you disagree with it, it makes perfect sense to add a dangerous PP weapon for freeto the number one defensive/PK team that had an MVP candidate, Norris candidate, Vezina candidate playing to the top of their abilities.

I didnt hate the Lucic trade at the time, i love me some Looch.
:dunce:
Getting that top six tough winger to give Kopitar some space seemed like a good idea to me:dunno: When we had prime Kopi, Doughty Quick and co it seemed like a reasonable bet to me.

Looks like he’s going to Wing, so happy to see Kempe back, but certainly sit someone other than Grundy.

Who? Iafallo hasn't done anything to sit, other than not produce. He's always working though. 5 goals in 18 GP is pretty good for Carter. Lizotte doesn't produce, but he's always working.

Lewis is gone for sure is anyone wants him. There's zero reason to re-sign Hutton or Cliffored prior to the deadline. If nobody wants them, give them another year, whatever. Get a mid round pick for each if you can though. The other 4, assume they're not gong anywhere. If they do, it'll be a nice surprise. If they don't, Blake can't force them on anyone.

2 Cups in the previous 3 years, and then missed the playoffs in the last week in the 4th year. Kopitar had 1 year left on his good contract, and DL was all in, in both 14-15, and 15-16. They weren't a 70 point team in 14-15. It's not insane that DL took the chance. It didn't work, and that's why we're still talking about. One extra bad week in 11-12, and the Lucic trade never happens, because we're all still complaining about the failed Richards move to this day. DL made his choice that day at the 2015 draft, and it's over. The pick is never coming back, no matter how much we complain about it. Taking Hickey in 2007 would be a much bigger deal today had it ultimately not worked out in spite of that selection. We don't talk about Hickey anymore though, even if this time 8 years ago we were probably still lamenting the pick.

If guys want some clarity on the Kovy situation listen to the 31 thoughts podcast today. They spent the first 15 min talking about it.

Also, pretty happy with Carter this year. I am not eager to move him, Martinez, or Clifford. Lewis can go. Kovy will go. Toffoli will likely go. Quick or Campbell has to go to set up Peterson next season since he is waiver eligible unless they move one of those guys during the off season. Not sure about Forbort or the Kings plan for him.

Wagner or Luff, Carter could have slid across. We won which is the main thing. However, I want to see Grundstrom get a decent run.

Kempe had a really nice finish there so hopefully he can relax a bit and get going. He had 3 shots and was involved again, he looked ok at wing so he’ll hopefully get a few games there.

Nice to see Kopi serve no purpose again.

Carter has been way better needs to start burying the puck though

I'm hopeful it's a floodgates thing. His play as a whole has been really encouraging. Same with Kempe last night until he broke thru.
Hopefully with Amadio setting up Toffoli and Carter their scoring will come...
let’s be honest, last nights game should have been a blowout based on the chances Amadio created..
Once that line breaks through though it could create nice trade value for us
