props for admitting you were on board for bringing him on. I was not but still do not want it going down like this. I really thought he would be better without WD
Thanks. I’ll happily admit though that it was an emotional view as opposed to a sensible one.

i'm saying the only "praise" these guys should get derives from a literal inactivity

meaning, i can hire anyone and tell them; the first rule of Kings club...don't trade picks

ok, homer can do that, picks are cool

The praise that I give Blake is how well he has restocked the pipeline. Honestly, in a few years we may look back at this period of time as one of the most impressive prospect pool turnarounds in recent memory. It was more than just not trading picks, it was using those picks well, it was chasing alternative means of finding prospects in college free agents, it was making solid moves to acquire draft picks/prospects. We will see how that goes this season, but give credit where it is due, the pipeline is looking fantastic right now.

Maybe move Kovalchuck to Edmonton for a bag of pucks and he becomes James Neal 2.0 /sarc

I don't care what happens with Kovy as long as we don't add more to our recapture/buyout/cap retention expenditures. We already have way too much as is.

Sounds like he is practicing with the team this morning and Blake put cold water on the contract termination front. I am always pretty suspicious when some in the national media talks about the Kings, they always seem so out of touch. I'm sure there is something to the story, but the hockey news seems at least to be premature.

I think everything is on the table. No team is going to trade for him prior to that bonus being paid out.

I mean... I don't like the guy's play but that seems way harsh.

From his posts this past off-season, he seemed pretty committed. Looked like he was working out like a mad man. Meh, can never tell what's inside ones head.

Maybe if he finds his way back into the lineup, plays half decent someone takes a chance on him near the trade deadline. best case scenario, I suppose.

I agree, and Blake sounded pissed, and at least the organization is on the same page that 'he's just a healthy scratch' publicly. Not that he had a ton of trade value before, but all this speculation would destroy it otherwise. Lots of random info out there that's all conflicting from many different talking heads. What a shit show.

Friedman talks Kovy in his 31 thoughts article.

According to multiple sources, the Kings met with Kovalchuk Tuesday morning and told him they were going to remove him from the lineup. He left the arena and did not take the morning skate. There were several options that came up, including: working on a trade; leaving the team; staying until his bonus is paid in December, then leaving; mutually terminate (although I can’t imagine Kovalchuk walking away from the money unless it is coming from somewhere else); and, apparently, some pushback that he shouldn’t be forced to leave if he doesn’t want to. During Blake’s availability, he repeatedly referred to Kovalchuk as “a healthy scratch.” Asked specifically if the winger could dress Thursday against Detroit, the GM replied, “Yeah, he’s a healthy scratch. I don’t know – there’s not much else I can say.” (Thank you to Jon Rosen for the transcript.) Post-game, head coach Todd McLellan added, “Just like the rest of the players, he’ll get his opportunity to come back in. We have to treat him like any other player.”

Captain Anze Kopitar: “Obviously not a great situation. (Kovalchuk) is a good guy. There’s nothing that’s wrong with the attitude or anything…. It’s just for whatever reason, it’s not working on the ice, and that’s about all I can say.”

It’s becoming more obvious that BLuc has tried to push Kovalchuk to leave once things fell apart last year. The Willie D friction was designed to bruise his ego.

They want to try and get out of the contract and having to pay him if he bolts to russia.

I just don't see what benefit Bluc get out of not paying him his money. They don't need cap space right now...

Its hard to say where information is coming from or if certain sites are inferring things in order to drive clicks or visits. However Blake has to tamp down the idea he is not going to be a full participant with the team in order to see if any GM will bite at Kovalchuck's contract. I could see a few teams around the league that may have some interest. In the absolute perfect situation I do think he has a little bit of value.
