Wow just read that Kovy will no longer play the rest of the season but can practice? Damn I know he sucks but sorta feel bad for the fella. I thought we were trying to tank. So does that mean a few more wins.
Dude who even cares.
I'm confused, are you saying that not trading picks is a bad thing? Do you not believe that the prospect pool has significantly improved?
I want more color in the uniforms again.
I’m gutted it didn’t work out. I was 100% behind the signing of Kovalchuk, I think we over paid slightly but other than that it was a free asset attempting to get the last little bit out of the core. At the time I think the retooling approach came from above Luc, certainly from above Blake and based on his moves the last 18+ months that belief has only increased. On paper he should have worked well with Kopitar, and I still don’t really understand why it didn’t, but that is history now.
I don’t think he’s being picked on or singled out though. He’s the player on the roster that is the worst fit. He’s probably the player least likely to be moved and I imagine Blake probably has a feel for the likelihood now. If that’s the case then there’s no point in showcasing him, so there’s no upside in playing him. Toffoli does seem to be moveable, I doubt he nets as much as some want, however playing him and trying to up his value makes sense.
As things stand a Kempe is part of the future so they are trying to turn things around for him, and Carter does seem to be slowly bringing his game around to some level of respectability. So it would make sense that Kovi is the one to be left out over some of the others.
Lastly, we don’t actually know exactly what the situation is. We also don’t know what Kovalchuk thinks about it. He may be in complete agreement that things aren’t working and that it’s unlikely to change. The approach being taken could easily be something he is on board with. Also he could be back in the lineup by the end of the week.
Either way I’m gutted for him. I think he genuinely tried to make it work and he seems to be though of as a good team mate.
i'm saying the only "praise" these guys should get derives from a literal inactivity
meaning, i can hire anyone and tell them; the first rule of Kings club...don't trade picks
ok, homer can do that, picks are cool
Hey Kings fans,
Just wondering if y'all know when your team is rocking the old school beauty? And for how many games. I wanna watch those games.
While possible, the fact of the matter is that Kovalchuk is the only one in a sense being punished
ding ding ding...also LA's cap.His bank account begs to differ.
Ontario made me miss the purple earlier this yearI want more color in the uniforms again.

Wanted to get to Los Angeles and Ilya Kovalchuk next. GM Rob Blake and JP Barry, who represents the Russian veteran, declined to comment in the process of reporting on this, but prior to last night’s 3-1 victory over Minnesota, Blake threw some cold water on the idea that Kovalchuk was done playing for them. He’s never lied to me about anything, so I wanted to throw everything out there. According to multiple sources, the Kings met with Kovalchuk Tuesday morning and told him they were going to remove him from the lineup. He left the arena and did not take the morning skate. There were several options that came up, including: working on a trade; leaving the team; staying until his bonus is paid in December, then leaving; mutually terminate (although I can’t imagine Kovalchuk walking away from the money unless it is coming from somewhere else); and, apparently, some pushback that he shouldn’t be forced to leave if he doesn’t want to.
During Blake’s availability, he repeatedly referred to Kovalchuk as “a healthy scratch.” Asked specifically if the winger could dress Thursday against Detroit, the GM replied, “Yeah, he’s a healthy scratch. I don’t know – there’s not much else I can say.” (Thank you to Jon Rosen for the transcript.) Post-game, head coach Todd McLellan added, “Just like the rest of the players, he’ll get his opportunity to come back in. We have to treat him like any other player.”
Captain Anze Kopitar: “Obviously not a great situation. (Kovalchuk) is a good guy. There’s nothing that’s wrong with the attitude or anything…. It’s just for whatever reason, it’s not working on the ice, and that’s about all I can say.”
So, there are a few moving parts.
2. The Kings have tried to move Kovalchuk for awhile, so they know the market. Maybe it gets easier after the December bonus, as his salary for the remainder of the season is a pro-rated $700,000. Maybe it gets easier in the summer, when he’s heading into the last year of his contract at a bonus-free $4.25 million for a club needing to get to the floor. Who knows? Because he signed as a 35-plus contract, the hit stays on the cap of whoever owns his rights until the end of next season. Even if he decides to play in Russia, it sticks. “He could get abducted and probed by aliens….still counts,” texted one helpful capologist.
3. The Kings mean business. Tyler Toffoli was scratched, then Kovalchuk. They later put Toffoli on the top line to showcase him, but, as they train their next generation, they’re demanding a high standard. He’s not going to be the last big-name benching.
His bank account begs to differ.
That Avs Stadium Series jersey is the worst of all time.
