He was drafted 13th overall, just after Vilardi.

I’d rather make a hockey trade with Carolina versus one for pure futures, if it involves Toffoli. The guy is obviously producing, but getting a first rounder at this point is doubtful. And if it comes from a playoff team, it’s worth even less.

There were rumors that Jake Gardiner may be moved. I’d love to see a deal like Toffoli and Martinez (with salary retained just this season) for Gardiner and Foegle. Both improve the current roster and reduce the average age.

I don't think the Canes would want to move Foegele at all, particularly if the main return was a UFA to be who doesn't really produce more than Foegele. His 5v5 scoring (as he doesn't get PP time) is 2nd to only Svechnikov on the Canes, so better than Teravainen, Aho, Dzingel, Necas, etc. He's fast, physical, has decent size, kills penalties, is on pace 40+ points, all ES/SH. Brind'Amour loves the guy. On top of that, he's 23 and just coming off his ELC so will be under team control for a very long time.

I'm a bit perplexed by the Toffoli rumors (if true), particularly now that Williams is back in the fold. Once Williams returns, they already have to sit a legit NHL forward.

Gardiner is rumored to be still recovering from a bad back, and he is being outperformed by Haydn Fleury. Plus TvR and Edmunsson are pending UFAs.

Acquiring Martinez could help them re-slot their D for a playoff run and bench TvR. With Foegle due a raise, it may make sense both short and long term.

The only Toffoli-Canes rumors I’ve seen have come from an unreliable poster on this board. Unless you’ve seen something more reputable elsewhere, I wouldn’t read much into it.

Foegle is 23, posting career high numbers after coming off a very impressive showing in the playoffs last year. Getting him is a pipe dream. Brock McGinn is a more realistic option, though I see no reason for them to desire Alec Martinez.
