I'd say 5 tops. Other than Makar and Hart I dont see them becoming star players (top 4D, top 6F, or starting goalies) in the Canadian team. I guess Steel and Kyrou could top out as second liners in their best years. Players like Thomas could potentially make a living as a third/fourth liner and PK specialist, but that is so hard to project. Sweden has a lot more players with "star potential", but at the same time players like Nylander will never be able to make a career as a third/fourth liner if he cant develop into a top forward.

I think Thomas is expected to be better than your assessment, though he didn't really catch my eye often this tournament. Playing the sort of game Canada played doesn't necessarily showcase the individual talent so well.

I think all of them have some chance. Mete seems likely, given that he's already had some time. Formenton got a long look this year, maybe not a top 6 guy but his speed is a great asset (and he can fire a pick dead center on an empty net!). Hart, Dube, Kyrou, Batherson, Timmins (for sure) Clague, Bean, Fabbro, Foote... I dunno I'll happily take the over on your "5 tops" if we put 100 NHL games as the threshold.

(If this is meant to be a pissing contest of some sort I don't get it. Sweden has lots of great hockey talent. Almost as good as Finland recently!)

Interview with Dahlin. (translated)

Some of these interviews from the Swedish players that are starting to emerge are really telling a story about Swedish hockey players and its not making them look very good at all. Enough of the whining and excuses! Sweden was not disciplined whatsoever, if anyone watched the game they could see Sweden deserved each and every one of those 6 penalties. End of. Besides nobody scored on the PP so its not like it had an outcome on the game. Canada scored all of its goals even strength. It was the same with them after the 2014 Olympic Final "wah wah we didn't have Backstrom" as if that would have had a major effect.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the captain of this Swedish team didn't have the composure to accept defeat but rather throw his silver over the glass it really tells a story, if a player like that was their captain, someone who couldn't control his emotions was leading this team quite frankly Sweden never deserved the gold to begin with.

Never in world junior history have we seen such whining, immaturity and disrespect from a losing World Junior team. Unprecedented.

Didn't this subforum disappear minutes after the USA won last year? Why is it still here

C'mon. We dove.

It's like when Cherry says hockey players don't take PEDs.

C'mon.

We won the game. We dove. I'm sure they do too.
You dive, we dont. Soon we will too though, you gotta learn to be successfull.. Whats next, cheating whit the taxpayment, probably, then cheat on the wife.. after all, you got to be successfull in all those areas, just look at the winning Canadian elite players and what they do, such role models *sarcasm*

Are you suggesting that Sweden played a disciplined game? Because I saw a frustrated team that was taking bad penalities all game.

And did you really just say that someone shouldn’t exist if they don’t win Gold? Wow, what an absurd thing to say.

Lias was the captain of the 2nd best team in the world, no one is saying he shouldn’t be disappointed or even cry. But throwing your medal into the stands is a disgusting act of disrespect for the game, and to all the other countries in the tournament, and all those that have played and represented their countries before him. It is honestly the most childish thing I have ever seen a player do in that tournament considering it was done by the captain.

It showed he’s very immature and what example does that send to his teammates. Sweden was right there for a chance to win, but they started to become unravelled and play undisciplined and Canada took advantage. Perhaps if they had better leadship they would have had won.

A day later and as a fan, I’m still repulsed by what I saw. Hopefully he learns from this but he should be utterly embarrassed by what he did.
Im amazed of how bad your reading comprehension is.

- No, I didnt say they were disciplined.

- No, from where did you get hat people who didnt finished first shouldnt exist?...

- GTFO here that its a disrespectable thing to throw away ones medal, are you Don Cherry complaining about celebrations? There are so many more thing to get upset about in the world than a teenager throwing away his consolidation prize, get a life dude.

When comparing your country or your favourite team, who amongst us is ever 100% objective?

They cheat. We don't. They play dirty. We play honourably.
I definitely wanted Canada to win, but I would've been fine if Liljegren got a gold medal too. I think the refs favoured Canada slightly, but that happens sometimes. Canada and Sweden both played great games and both tried to embellish for calls at times.

I agree that the whining from us Swedes are out of control and it's getting quite embarassing, I specially don't enjoy our players going out and whining about it, that's for fans and media but players should keep quiet.

But I don't remember many Swedes being angry about the Olympics 2014, mostly disapointment that when we finally were in a final again it was without our three best centers because besides ruining all our chances against a far superior Canada it also made the game more boring overall and I think a alot of Canadiens felt that too. It's not as rewarding winning gold beating a halfteam even though Canada most likely would had won even if we hadn't lost Zetterberg, H Sedin and Bäckström.

Yep, agreed, you got to keep quiet about the diving and learn it instead, from the ones best at it. They are still young they have plenty of time to learn how to embellish and dive like swans properly

Okay whatever man. It was a pathetic act of poormanship IMO and my opinion isn’t going to change on the matter. Hopefully he’s embarrassed and he learns from it. I just know I would never teach my children to behave that way.

Re-watch the game, this time without the blue and yellow goggles on.

If you think this was a great game then hockey is really in a major decline. It was a decent and close game but no way was it a spectacular game. Sure it was better than the rest of this particular tournament but that isn't saying much.

The penalty mins. again, 2 vs 22. How succsefull divers where the Swedes then? If they only manage to embellish together 2mins. .? What a joke. This is the highly skilled, puck posession, lethal powerplay - Team Sweden we are talking. Not some random bunch of players not keeping up whit the pace of the other team and therefore taking penalties

And for those who don't understand how refereeing works, you think referees with close to zero experience in big games won't be intimitaded by a 99% huge pro-Canadian crowd then think again. Anyway I don't want to get into that pissing contest and use it as an excuse. It's just really odd to have a final finish 6-1 in penalties when it should have been 6-3. At the end of the day Canada won with a stunning goal.

End of the day when 2 teams play and one is super undisciplined one will be punished more than the other, and these were European refs too, a Finn and a Czech. But let me ask you this and I will be anxiously awaiting your response. Sweden was a very undisciplined team, they even hacked and whacked against the Americans, Steen almost got suspended.. there is no conspiracy.

No team scored on the PP, so please do tell me what effect the PP's had on the outcome? oh that's right they had no effect whatsoever. Canada scored both goals even strength and added the 3rd on an empty net.

You're angry, I get it. But learn to show class in defeat.

its really 12-2 Steen got a 10 min after the game for being a little bitch

Well that's being dishonest though since Sweden were the "better" team 5vs.5 and dominated the shots by a good margin. They had to kill 6 penalties and that stopped their momentum somewhat.

Not a pissing contest by any means. I think the Canadian team could easily have more players making the NHL than Sweden, again because many of the Swedish players need to become stars in order to find a role in the league. I mostly dont think there is a great chance to make the top 6 for many players in Canada because those are usually really technically superior at this level. With that said, I think a lot of them can become useful middle-6 bottom 4 players, with Makar and Hart being the two that are most likely to become impactful stars in the team.

Remember, there are so many Canadian SUPERSTARS at this level that have won (Schenn, Domi, Duclair) that hasnt/wont become consistent top line players in the NHL. It is really hard to make it to the NHL, and much more so to become one of the 30/60 best players in the world at your position.

The first period was very entertaining.
