Floppy leaves win it. My grandma has more strengths in her legs than this canadian team. Of course they dive around, but swedes should be custom to play box play against canada in finals. watch the history.

Canada needed PP half the game to win.

Give USA respect for their game, they stand up, didn't see a dive from them all tournament, even against Swedes when they got behind. Nucks need to learn how to win fair.

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

Sweden shouldn't have been in the finals as the refs screwed the Yanks.
anything else.
...what? The amount of stupid posters in this GDT is off the charts.

- Yes, the swedes took some dumb penalties but , especially in the first period, their were situations were the referee couldve called a canadian player as well.

- The fact that so many if you are mad at Lias for throwing his medal is beyond ridiculus. A silver medal means that you missed out on the gold, and shouldnt even exist. I bet that if it was your own captain, some of you would call him a great leader who just wants to win. Imagine if they award the losing team in the Staley Cup Finals a lil necklace right after a ceushing defeat.

- Thought the swedes were better, just couldnt get any goals out of their ”top” players, sadly.

- Dahlin cemented himself as the best D prospect in ages, as well as when he’ll get picked this summer. Just praying that Arizona, Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton gets him.

So he got the medal back after he realized how idiotic it was throwing it away in the first place.

It's all about perspective - I'm pretty damn sure a Dane or a player from Belarus would have died to have an International silver medal in hockey at any point in their lives.

You're the damn captain for chrissakes, set a good example for your teammates and lose with class.

The more annoying thing is, that its not like he realized how idiotic it was afterwards. They just went and got it for him and gave it back and after the game in an interview Lias admitted he didnt regret throwing it in the crowd at all... Its pathetic what he did and its pathetic people went and retrieved it back for the little baby and he still didnt want it

I thought Sweden had some epic dives. I didn’t see the first period, but I’m sure Canada did too. Pretty funny reading some posters. I wonder what will do once he joins the Rangers. They don’t have a very good history of winning.

I am very disappointed in some of fans of Sweden. I was expecting a big more dignity. I would have expected those kind of reactions from Americans, not from Swedes.
Sweden played a very good game and had an excellent opportunity to win. But the refs didn't help Canada win this game. The penalties Sweden took were deserved. A couple of dumb penalties but the other penalties happened because of defensive breakdowns by the Swedes. That entire game Sweden hooked and interfered with Canadian forecheckers.
In a way I wish Sweden would have won so we wouldn't have to listen to this BS.

Peterson was a complete joke and the officials didnt fall for it. He was flopping around like a fish out of water when no one touched him.

Loved the guy and still watch his old matches on youtube all the time.

The guy just had the charisma, he didnt say much but he didnt have to say much. He looked like this cooler then f*** Viking god, the long flowing hair and the whirring legs with the hissing top spin, all that was more then enough!!

The first rock star of Tennis, he was an original and will never be duplicated.

Uh, more like Wade Tkachuk flopping all over the ice in that game, like the Canadians, yet Sweden won. They are a puck possesion, highly skilled team whit a deadly power play. Yet they take boatloads of more penalties than their American opponents! (yeah right)

Was Wade Tkachuk also flopping all over the SWE v. USA game where Sweden got more penalties?

What a great day.

The sun is shining.

Canada is #1 in the hockey world where they belong.

The rest of the hockey world is bitching and moaning.

Nothing new here. It's always the reffs. I remember in 2014 when Finland beat Canada 5-1 in the semis, it was the reffs. I remember in 2016 Finland beating Canada in the quarter finals, it was the reffs. I remember Finland beating Russia in the finals and it was the reffs. Heck, even when Finland beat the Swedes in 2014 Gold medal game, people (mainly Finns) complained how the reffs tried their very best to hand Swedes the Gold medal.

The way I saw it: the two very best teams in the tournament faced each other in a very close game and Canada prevailed. I have no complaints whatsoever. Not that I had a favorite in the finals, but I wouldn't have minded seeing my western neighbor grab their third gold medal. Congrats to Canada for the gold!

Are you suggesting that Sweden played a disciplined game? Because I saw a frustrated team that was taking bad penalities all game.

And did you really just say that someone shouldn’t exist if they don’t win Gold? Wow, what an absurd thing to say.

Lias was the captain of the 2nd best team in the world, no one is saying he shouldn’t be disappointed or even cry. But throwing your medal into the stands is a disgusting act of disrespect for the game, and to all the other countries in the tournament, and all those that have played and represented their countries before him. It is honestly the most childish thing I have ever seen a player do in that tournament considering it was done by the captain.

It showed he’s very immature and what example does that send to his teammates. Sweden was right there for a chance to win, but they started to become unravelled and play undisciplined and Canada took advantage. Perhaps if they had better leadship they would have had won.

A day later and as a fan, I’m still repulsed by what I saw. Hopefully he learns from this but he should be utterly embarrassed by what he did.

Is this seriously a necessary thing to say?

Canada isn't the hockey Capital of the World. Canada loves hockey more than any other sport in the world, but you should stop at that.

I was born and raised in the US and UK and live in Canada.

Right, because an incredibly biased and bitter yank who takes every opportunity to trash Canada behind the safety of his computer screen would know. It’s not like this is its birthplace, or where it’s played more than anywhere else, or where most players come from, or where there is the most leagues or anything. Nope. Couldn’t be.

I’ve seen you point out where your from and where you live before, do you think this adds weight to the nonsense you spew? It doesn’t, because nonsense is nonsense, be it from Canada, USA or Europe.

Since when is it endorsed in Canadian hockey to dive and flop around like Italian soccer players whenever nudged by an opponent? Is this the future of the NHL as well? Flopping around while banning goons and enforcers to make it "family friendly"?

After team USA’s performance against Sweden you can’t possibly be trying to point the finger at someone else in regards to diving. Kyrou embellished, that was all, the USA team were flinging themselves all over the ice to the point you’d think there were a few snipers in the stands.

So the Swedish kid threw the medal into the crowd. Why didn’t the rest of his team follow their leader? Losers yet again. Sweden has to learn to play as a team.

There were seperate rules for the two teams. Case and point, Liljegren enters the zone, has his stick hit out of his hands, and Canada goes the other way and scores an EN goal. By the IIHF rules that is a 2 minute slashing call and a Swedish powerplay, instead we got the final dagger in the heart.

Add to that the non-call on the holding on Pettersson, the dive by Kyrou on Pettersson's penalty, the really weak interference call on Lindström, a standard that was never called again during the game on any other "interferences", and it adds up to a Canada finally squeezing by after having played the whole third period at a man advantage.

Some people here are even sorer losers than Andersson.

A sore loser would be like the Americans in 2014 who held out his stick blade to cut the Russians celebrating a goal in the eye. There are no destructive emotions about Andersson's play.

I swear, NA hockey culture wants all their players to be such boring robots. Who cares what he does with the medal? Retired footballers auction off their Superbowl rings, why is that ok but throwing the medal to a fan is not?
