So the Swedish kid threw the medal into the crowd. Why didn’t the rest of his team follow their leader? Losers yet again. Sweden has to learn to play as a team.

Spoiled kid...had it easy his whole life and the on moment he 's not having it his way he throw a tantrum...

get some corones kiddo...
Oh come on. He gave away his silver medal, big f***ing deal. In football (soccer) lots of players refuse their silver medals or give them away, especially if they are big players and it wasn't a "once in a lifetime" happening.

Also COYS (fellow ST holder)

The Swedes maybe have learned that they should dive too, then refs had to call canadians for penalties no?
Swedes got tired after being one player lesser than opposite team, that is what made them lose. 40 shots 22 Boxplay minutes canada 2 minutes, its ljust not how the reality was. crowd wins this one, just scream as a nick goes down from a breeze, unfortunately.

Other countries maybe should start to scream and cry a lot, refs can't say no to that. sad. Despite this Swedes made this too close, Canada wins Congrats, but you played with one more player half the game.

Correct, jj cale. My grande vision failed but even in the deepest and wisest prophecies there lurks always the seed of uncertainty and self-destruction. (That's why a clever clear-voyance is always vague and generic like "He will come and save you one day!)

My vision came as if with a ceteris paribus condition; only these conditions were also just vague and inexplicit begging the question of authority of my claim. Devil was also once again in details of the emerging big picture and these details were not visible and sharp enough for me beforehand: the home advantage (crowd), the drive, energy, will and persistence of Team Canada, Hart's superb netminding ability - and, yes, also the refs willingness to send poor Swedes into the penalty box one after another like no tomorrow, finally exhausting them.

So, this prophetic experiment of mine was a lesson in the virtues of non-fanatic objectivity, reasonable scepticism, open-minded rationalism and fallibility of any prophecy, model or even theory.

Or then - the jinx is REAL. :D

Congrats, Canadians and Team Canada. What a helluva TEAM!

This was a good read, well done!!

They deserved every penalty they got, they showed no discipline and took stupid penalty after stupid penalty thining they could trip and throw interference whenever they wanted and they thought wrong.

Their player throwing his silver medal to the crowd showed where their head and attitude was.

What's the ****ing problem. At least we lost vs Canada, not vs a defensive boring team like Russia or Finland.

The small country of Sweden (about 10 million of inhabitants) played a great game vs Canada except from the last period.

Currently we are number second in the world and the next time we most probably learn from our mistakes (too many stupid penalties) and win it all becoming nr 1 in the world.

We have to learn playing tough but fair, both being better in giving and receiving clean hits together with correct timing, they should hire Douglas "Crankshaft" Murray as consultant in this area (or Kronwall).

For the record, I think Sweden was the better team for most of that game. Again, I know it's a bitter pill but those kids and Sweden should be proud.

You know what is physcho is complaining about the refs when they quite literally took a good goal away from Canada. At the very least it was a borderline call and yet so convenient to ignore it while complaining about everything else. Sweden was overwhelmed by the moment hence their undisciplined play and that same mentality lead to their captain throwing his medal into the stands. Leader of the team couldn't remain composed.

There's this thing about penalties: all you have to do is kill them off. And considering Sweden actually scored short-handed on one of the penalties, so in reality, the penalty disparity wasn't the factor some have suggested.

Sweden should learn the rules before coming back to compete again.

So he got the medal back after he realized how idiotic it was throwing it away in the first place.

It's all about perspective - I'm pretty damn sure a Dane or a player from Belarus would have died to have an International silver medal in hockey at any point in their lives.

You're the damn captain for chrissakes, set a good example for your teammates and lose with class.

Well if this is the way to settle an international tournament, then non of the medals are worth anything anyways

Exactly. Some people have REAL problems in their lifes and this kid acts like a buffoon after losing a game, the captain of the team. It's okay to be emotional after a loss but don't be tasteless.

I'd be embarrased if my countryman acted in such a fashion.

I agree with your first paragraph, but you don't have to be intentionally inflammatory with your second. Every nation on earth has murderers, rapists, abusers, racists and bigots. I think everyone on the planet has millions of things more to be embarrassed about than happening to be born in the same country as an 18 year old who acted childishly at the end of a junior hockey tournament.

Posters in this thread (and nearly every gtd) get heated and irrational and they're just fans watching games on TV. Andersson is an 18 year old who lived it. Now that he has cooled down, I think he's probably embarrassed by how he acted, but I'll give him a pass.

You should try quitting being a sore loser.

They took stupid obvious penalties and they paid a price for it, it is all on sweden.

If those same plays were reversed and Canada had committed them and they were not called you would be screaming at how Sweden got robbed by the refs not calling penalties to Canada and if the refs had called them on Canada you would be saying all the calls were legitimate.

Thats what fans such as you do because you cannot bear losing anytime.

The same thing in the semis against the US , not as bad though think it was 8 vs 16 mins in that game. So Sweden won, go figure

Wow, blaming everyone else but the Swedes!. It was a close game and could have went either way!

Regardless, team Sweden were just as good as Canada, and it came down the whomever scored that 2nd goal :win:

You are telling me they were undiciplined enough not play hockey the "street-smart"-American way, aka. dive-embellish yourself to victory

It would have been even more exciting if a penalty would have been called on the EN goal at the end there (obviois slash) but it feels kinda nice to not have the brutal officiating at this event go against us as it usually does.

It's not just that penalties are called, its the lack of consistency that is maddening and makes these threads toxic, although you could also say it adds a level of mystery to the game which makes it even more exciting.

Fun game to watch.

Sweden shouldn't have been in the finals as the refs screwed the Yanks.
anything else.

Further evidence that Sweden was an undisciplined team.
Uh, more like Wade Tkachuk flopping all over the ice in that game, like the Canadians, yet Sweden won. They are a puck possesion, highly skilled team whit a deadly power play. Yet they take boatloads of more penalties than their American opponents! (yeah right)
