People here are making it like we play second tier team. Watching Czech play this year I see them surprising a lot of people.... It is not their "classic" WJHC team from the past few years. Big, strong, good skating with leaders at O and D. They may quite easily medal this year.
The Czechs are definitely better than they've been recently IMO. I still think they're a little bit behind the top 4 this year though. Maybe next year if their best 3 players aren't in the NHL yet as they're all eligible again. Wouldn't be shocked if the did upset some of the better teams though.
I had the Czechs and Russia pretty close, so this result isn't surprising me all that much. Need to wait until one of them plays Sweden to see how they match up against what I think are the better 4 teams in the tournament. But you never know with Russia, they could lose this and then go sweep their way to gold.
