Kieth-Weber
Vlasic-Doughty
(??)-Pietrangelo
Subban

After the display they've put on, they should stick with the elite balanced core that's still in their prime.

USA will be better just by addition from subtraction with a couple guys. Will be interesting to see if the junior development more or less stays on par with Canada.

The Czechs have brought in alot more young NHL talent the last few years then Russia and maybe even Finland, they're gonna be alot better.

Canada

Tavares Crosby Stamkos
Hall Toews Bergeron
Benn Getzlaf Perry
Duchene MacKinon Giroux
Couture Seguin

Doughty Weber
Keith Pieterangelo
Vlasic Subban
Murray
Seabrook

Price
Bernier
Crawford

Forward

The forward group for this team is also very young. None of these guys will be so old by 2018 as to immediately knock them out of the running.

Brown, Backes, Kesler, Parise, Pavelski (34)
Callahan Stastny (33)
Oshie, Wheeler (32)
Kessel (31
Kane, Pacioretty (30)
Van Riemsdyk (29)
Stepan (28)

Defense

Unlike from 2010 basically the entire 2014 defense can probably be counted on to return.

Fowler (26)-Carlson (28)
McDonaugh (28)-Faulk (26)
Suter(32)- Shattenkirk (28)

Jack Johnson will be 31, Erik Johnson 32 and Keith Yandle 31

Goalie

Quick (31) Should still be in the prime of his career assuming these recent injuries are just a fluke and not chronic.
Gibson (24) Should push Quick for the starting spot.
Schneider (31) hopefully he's finally a starter :sarcasm:
Bishop (32)
You aren't good at math are you?

I'm excited for what the US defense could look like:

McDonagh - Jones
Fowler - Trouba
Suter (only 33) - Shattenkirk/Carlson
Hanafin

Money.

for canada you would have to think these 11 forwards are "locks"
-crosby
-stamkos
-bergeron
-tavares
-toews
-duchene
-perry
-benn
-getzlaf
-giroux
-hall

and these 6 dmen
-weber
-keith
-doughty
-vlassic
-subban
-pieterangelo

as well as
-price

their really isnt alot of room for too many new faces maybe,
-mackinnon
-seguin
-RNH
-mcdavid
-drouin
-murray

either way its potentially an even more sick lineup then in 2014

My team Canada:
John Tavares -- Sidney Crosby -- Jordan Eberle
Evander Kane -- Claude Giroux -- Steven Stamkos

Calvin De Haan -- PK Subban
Shea Weber

Carey Price
Jonathan Bernier
Martin Jones

Watch list:
- Connor McDavid (how fast can he progress??)
- Jonathan Huberdeau (so much skill and a winger, but similar players down the middle may hold him back)
- Milan Lucic (I think he can do well on big ice with his skating, will he get faster in 4 years?)
- Jaden Schwartz (Just a solid, solid hockey player. Again issue is size, can he be Patrick marleau?)
- Ryan Johansen (will be good enough in 4 years, but would probably have to make team as winger)
- Travis Hamonic (cannon shot, improved defensively, a candidate if a Weber or Pietro regresses)
- Michael Del Zotto (he has the puck skills, and we have seen defensive ability in past, new start in Nashville may revive him)

Canada's forward group is much better than any other country. Cutting players like Kane, Skinner, Johansen, Eberle, Giroux is tough. This team is designed for speed more than anything else. I noticed that Canada doesn't have as many strong defensive wingers, but I guess that is a consequence of having young players. Inevitably there is going to be a lot of turnover from 2010 and 2014 to 2018 as a new cycle emerges.

Canada's defence should remain mostly the same. Keith and Weber shouldn't be too old to perform well in somewhat reduced roles. Murray looks like an elite defensive defenceman on the left side and would look great next to Subban. Hamilton is just a wild guess as 8th defenceman. Canada needs to improve its production of young defencemen.

Price is the goaltender, then who knows.

I'd say there are only 2 people that are a 100% lock to be in Pjöngchang, Jagr and Selänne :D:handclap:

My take on Sweden right now. Might have forgot someone…
Forwards are OK and so are the goalies. But the skill AND depth of D is quite amazing for a small country like Sweden.

im also assuming that Laine/Puljujärvi will enter the NHL the year they are drafted and do okay

If they are going to again use Subban as the 7th dman in 2018 he should tell them to go to hell and pull a Roy like in 2002.

Im going young...

After 2010 I was little a bit worried about the future. But now seeing all these roster predictions... wholy... so many good players to chooce from. We should have a bright future ahead of us :handclap:

Sidney Crosby
Steven Stamkos
John Tavares
Jonathan Toews
Taylor Hall
Matt Duchene
Claude Giroux
Jamie Benn
Tyler Seguin
Logan Couture
Jeff Skinner
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Nathan MacKinnon
Evander Kane

That forward group is just unfair.

It's a bit of a crapshoot right now. Remember when we thought Rico Fata would be on Team Canada in 2002? I will say one thing, I remember calling Eric Brewer to be on the 2002 team back in 1998. Just a hunch. But here is goes:

Price
Fleury
Crawford

Keith-Weber
Vlasic-Doughty
Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Letang-Subban

Crosby
Stamkos
Tavares
Toews
Mackinnon
McDavid
Hall
Seguin
Eberle
Bergeron
Getzlaf
Perry
Duchene
Giroux

Yikes! What a team.

The oldest on that forward corps would be Getzlaf, Perry and Bergeron who would all be turning 33 in 2018. Our defense would have Keith and J-Bo and the oldies at 34. Fleury is just a hunch, he's 33 by then.

Then again things can change too. Perry and Getzlaf may not age well. 4 years is a long ways away.

If there is a World Cup in 2016 I pick much of the same team but a little bit more grit and size. Maybe Nash or Eric Staal will still be good enough by then, who knows. They'd be a good fit. Carter can go on either team, and he'll be 33 in 2018. But I like him on either team.

Probably going to cringe hard once this thread gets bumped

Tavares - Crosby - Stamkos
Benn - Toews - Giroux
Hall - Duchene - Seguin
Huberdeau - Mackinnon - Drouin
Couture
McDavid
(Huberdeau & Drouin will most likely not make it and they'll probably be replaced with more defensive minded forwards. ex. RyJo or RNH)

Keith - Doughty
Alzner - Subban
Vlasic - Pietrangelo
Letang
Murray

Price
Bernier
Crawford

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Kane
JvR - Stepan - Kessel
Kreider - Paveksi - Coyle
Saad - Bjugstad - Kesler
Eichel
Parise/Backes

McDonagh - Jones
Suter- Trouba
Fowler - Carlson
Faulk
Hanifin/Shattenkirk

Quick
Gibson
Schneider

2014 isn't even over and i'm excited for 2018. I'm sure we'll have the fastest team.

I'm positive that Marleau, Nash, Kunitz, St. Louis and Carter will all be left off the team for 2018. The guys i'm unsure of will be Getzlaf, Bergeron and Perry. So there will be lots of spots open at forward(5-8) and JBo and Hamhuis will be gone on the backend as well.

I see Stamkos, Mackinnon, Hall, Seguin, Johansen, Couture, Drouin, Lucic and Kane all fighting for a spot, with the bolded guys being favoured because of speed.

Duchene | Sidney Crosby | Steven Stamkos
Benn | Giroux | Kane (physical line)
Hall | Tavares | Mackinnon
Couture | Toews | Johansen (shutdown line)
Seguin
Drouin

Murray is already looking like a rounded player in his rookie year, and I'm sure he'll get more attention in the next 4 years for his solid play, which will only get better. Expect PK to be a more rounded player as well. I think both of them will push Vlasic out of the top 6. And I'm sure a prospect of some sort will emerge in the next 4 years (Ekblad, Nurse, Sean Day). I know Sean Day is a reach but he'll have 1.5 years in the NHL under his belt at the time of the selection.

Pietrangelo | Doughty
Keith | Weber
Subban| Murray
Vlasic
Ekblad/Nurse/Sean Day

Goaltending depth is our weak spot, but even if nobody emerges in the next 4 years, as long as Price stays healthy we should be fine.

I keep seeing Stepan ahead of Bjugstad on the depth chart. I have a good feeling that may not be the case in four years, and mostly because of Bjugstad.
