Russia:
Kulemin - Malkin - Tarasenko
Ovechkin - Grigorenko - Nichushkin
Slepyshev - Namestnikov - Kucherov
Anisimov - Yakimov - Kuznetsov
Yakupov, Burmistrov

Zadorov - Voinov
Emelin - Orlov
Kulikov - Maslov
Chudinov - Tryamkin

Vasilevskiy
Bobrovskiy
Varlamov

What is particularly amusing about this projection is that Maslov is there, but Mironov isn't.

What will the olympic teams look like in 2018 (assuming NHL players participate)

USA:

Max Pacioretty - Derek Stepan - Patrick Kane
Chris Kreider - Alex Galchenyuk - James van Riemsdyk
Zach Parise - Ryan Kesler - Phil Kessel
Brandon Saad - David Backes - Beau Bennett
Emerson Etem - Nick Bjugstad

injury replacement: T.J. Oshie

Ryan McDonagh - John Carlson
Ryan Suter - Seth Jones
Cam Fowler - Justin Faulk
Torey Krug - Kevin Shattenkirk

injury replacement: Jacob Trouba

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider
Ben Bishop

injury replacement: John Gibson

I'm glad you got Saad in there...

That "man-child" is a beast. IMO, hes Toews 1.50 lol.

I don't know why people think there will be olympics in 2018.....isn't it almost sure that we're gonna see World Cup in 2015/16 instead? Or at least no olympics in 2018....in Korea, come on. I really doubt NHL will participate.

I really don't know why so many people are 100% certain that the NHL's participation in the Olympics is a foregone conclusion about being over.

NBC, the NHL's TV partner is the Olympic broadcaster.

Players want to go.

Fans want the players to go.

The idea that the owners are going to go against everybody for no real reason seems..... not 100%

It's so hard to project how the young players are going to develop over the next 4 years. Especially now that Team USA has so many up-and-coming young players, and pretty much everyone on the roster now still in their prime (except maybe Miller).

So take all the names that made this year and add:

Ryan (yes, he got snubbed this time, but he's still in the running for 2018)
Galchenyuk
Saad
Etem
Bjugstad
Bonino
Nelson
Bennett
Kreider
Coyle
Eichel (will be interesting to see how quickly his game develops in the NHL...he'll have 2.5 seasons before the games, so we should have a good idea)

Trouba
Hanifin (see Eichel)
Jones
Merrill
Leddy

Gibson
Campbell

I feel like there's probably someone I'm missing who will be skyrocket in development. Don't sleep on Bonino or Nelson, four years is a long time and both those guys I think have bright futures.

You don't think Yakupov will be there in 4 years? Or did you just forget about him?

there are so many kids out there right now developing that it is nearly impossible to pick who will rise over the next 4 years.

a few names not mentioned are John Gaudreau, Connor Murphy, Torrey Krug, Danny Kristo, Kyle Palmieri, Colin Wilson, Kevin Hayes, etc as players to keep an eye on...and I am sure I am missing a lot as well!

Team Denmark is a lock for the next tournament, lots of promising players and a few guys who will be NHL vets by then.

Frans Nielsen
Mikkel Boedker
Nicklas Jensen
Oliver Bjorkstrand
Nikolaj Ehlers
Jannik Hansen
Peter Regin
Philip Larsen
Morten Green

Philip Larsen

Frederik Andersen

I'll list the players instead of setting positions because I think the positional thing is somewhat useless to assess at this point in time:

Forwards: Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Nathan MacKinnon, John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Ryan O'Reilly, Tyler Seguin, Taylor Hall, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Ryan Johansen, Claude Giroux, Jamie Benn

My one criticism of my selections is that most of these guys are centremen by nature, so it is probably wrong from the get go. :help:

Defense: Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, PK Subban, Alex Pietrangelo, Karl Alzner, Jay Bouwmeester, Shea Weber, Ryan Murray

Goalies: Carey Price, Jonathan Bernier, Robert Luongo

Can you imagine when you add Hall/Seguin/MacKinnon/Drouin/McDavid to the already existing young core? Anything can happen in one off tournaments, and other countries are very good in their own rights, but I think Canada will become an even more formidable opponent in 2018.

It won't be a very young Core in 4 years: Crosby will be 30.

Teräväinen - Barkov - Filppula
Ma. Granlund - Mi. Granlund - Armia
Salomäki - M. Koivu - J. Jokinen
Korpikoski - Haula - Komarov

Määttä - Ristolainen
Vatanen - Pokka
Eronen - Honka

Rask
Aittokallio

4 years is so long time to predict. Back in Vancouver 2010 i didnt know there was Barkov Jr and was only starting to hear about Mikael Granlund and co.

World Cup 2016

Jussi Jokinen - Aleksander Barkov - Teuvo Teräväinen
Lauri Korpikoski - Valtteri Filppula - Mikael Granlund
Sean Bergenheim - Jori Lehterä - Joel Armia
Leo Komarov - Mikko Koivu - Teemu Hartikainen
Petri Kontiola
Kasperi Kapanen

Olli Määttä - Sami Vatanen
Joni Pitkänen - Rasmus Ristolainen
Joonas Järvinen - Ville Pokka
Esa Lindell
Teemu Laakso

Tuukka Rask
Antti Raanta
Niko Hovinen

Karri Kivi

Benn - Crosby - Stamkos
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
McDavid - Tavares - Duchene
Couture - Toews - Seguin

Forwards: Canada will again even be more center heavy, which forces the need for natural wingers and centers switching to wing. That's why I think it will be hard for someone like Getzlaf to make it back.

Neal-Crosby-Stamkos
Duchene-Tavares-Seguin
Hall-MacKinnon-Perry
Couture-Toews-Giroux
McDavid, Benn

Defense: Hardest part to predict is the left side, as TC wants 4 lefties and righties. Will Keith be still elite? Will Murray develop? etc
Keith-Weber
Murray-Pietrangelo
Vlasic-Doughty
Rielly?Reinhart? who knows?-Subban

G
Price
Bernier
Holty? Someone else?

Duchene | Sidney Crosby | Steven Stamkos
Benn | Seguin | Giroux
Tavares | Toews | Mackinnon
Couture | ROR | Johansen (shutdown line)
Hall
Drouin

Pietrangelo | Doughty
Keith | Weber
Subban| Murray
Vlasic
Seabrook

Price
(someone who emerges in the next 4 years)

This is depending on how much Getzlaf and Perry go downhill. I'm hoping they stick to a young team rather than picking a bunch of guys past their prime in their mid 30s
