I think Martin and Orpik are the only skaters north of 31 on the current USA roster, so I assumed only a few of the guys who will be in their mid 30s will make it. Assumed the old farts would be Pavelski and Suter because they seem to have the best track record for health. Also did not include anyone who has yet to skate in an NHL game since it is too hard to project that much.

Quick / Schneider / Gibson

Suter - Jones
DeKeyser - Shattenkirk
McDonagh - Trouba
Fowler, E Johnson

van Riemsdyk - Stepan - Kane
Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Ryan
Saad - Pavelski - Okposo
Kreider - Bjugstad - Oshie
Smith, Kessel

Finland

Teräväinen-Barkov-Armia
Jokinen-Filppula- Mi.Granlund
Korpikoski-Koivu-Ruutu
Komarov-Haula-Hartikainen

Pitkänen-Ristolainen
Jokipakka-Honka
Lepistö-Järvinen

Hmm... I just have a feeling that the Finnish team won't be quite as young in 2018 as the ones projected here.

It's too impossible to say who will be playing well at that time, especially who our elite two way guys will be at the time. But there's going to be so many talented options that are going to be left off - the current core is pretty young but there are also so many younger guys that will be challenging for a spot.

Young guys that will be added to the mix for the next Olympics:

Couture (28)
Seguin (25)
Hall (25)
Mcdavid (20)
Mackinnon (22)
Drouin (22)
RNH (24)

In addition to Crosby (30), Toews (28), Benn (28), Stamkos (27), Tavares (27), Duchene (26), that could return

Add to which guys like Giroux and Neal that were left off will only be 29 and 30 respectively. Getzlaf, Perry, Bergeron, Mike Richards will be 32. Jeff Carter will be 33.

Doughty, Pietrangelo, and Subban will all return on the right side. We're going to need some guys to step up on the left side during that time. Other than Ekblad who's still to be drafted, which highly touted Canadians are coming up on the left side? I can't for the life of me remember. I could see a guy like Alzner stepping up and playing the Hamhuis/Vlasic role next time.

Goaltending will probably be a huge question mark come 2018. Price will still be 30 but I can't really think of any high impact Canadian goaltenders coming up at the moment.

Anisimov on LW ? you just put down names you knew didnt you ?
As with with 2010 early russian roster predictions for 2014 half of those guys wont be there.

Gonna take a stab at all the Big8-nations and see how I fare in 4 years. Will probably be dead wrong on most, so much can happen in four year, top prospects bust, little known prospects brake out, some veterans decline suddenly and quickly, some stay young forever...

None of my predictions matches anyone's on here, as I do not believe NHL players will be going to South Korea in 2018.

4th line that is 121 years old overall? No, I don't think so
Anyway, I wouldn't write off neither Elias nor Jagr for 2018 although I don't think their chances are very high (I'd say it's around 25% for each of them). Plekanec will still be at least 3rd line center IMO.
Otherwise it looks good. I'm praying for those young guys, we really need them to develop well. Still missing elite defensman though.

You forgot Barinka then :sarcasm:

Hmm... I just have a feeling that the Finnish team won't be quite as young in 2018 as the ones projected here.

Agreed. I think these players could be said to be safe bets to make the team:

Barkov
Mi. Granlund
M. Koivu
Määttä
J. Jokinen
Filppula
Vatanen
(Ruutu and Pitkänen would be here as well, but as far as I know, Pitkänen will never play again and I doubt Ruutu will still be able to play on a high level in 2018)

The goaltending situation is a wash. It's not worrying at all because we have goaltenders who should still be decent NHL starters in 4 years as well as a bunch of good younger netminders. There should be some decent competition for the spots. My own guess is that at least 1 of Rask/Lehtonen will make that team.

I was tempted to put Ristolainen as a safe bet as well, but decided against it. The outlook for him is very good at the moment though.

The rest of the team is anybody's guess at this point. We should see within the next 2-3 years which kids will make it.

And we still have uncapped potential in say guys like Jori Lehterä. His only 26 year old and turned down NHL to be Best center in KHL. He has chance to be in the mix for years to come and he will get his chances in world championships if stays healthy and will be key guys to look for.

My Canada:

Duchene-Crosby-Hall
Couture-Stamkos-Seguin
MacDavid-Tavares-Mackinnon
Benn-Toews-Giroux
Huberdeau/Skinner

Who knows? Fleury? Bernier? Luongo?

E. Kane - Toews - Seguin
Mackinnon - McDavid - Johansen
Benn, Couture, Drouin

Pietrangelo - Weber
Murray - Keith
Subban - Doughty
Sean Day, Vlasic

No way will the aristocracy that pick this team allow Day and Fucale. Both will be way too young. I'm not even sure McDavid will make it

Day is a bit of a stretch but the kid is 15 years old and already has 10 points in 30 games in the CHL. He'll be one of the best defencemen in the league by his second year in the NHL but yeah i agree with all the politics that it's very unlikely. I hope he gets an invite to the world juniors camp this summer.
