What will the olympic teams look like in 2018 (assuming NHL players participate)

USA:

Max Pacioretty - Derek Stepan - Patrick Kane
Chris Kreider - Alex Galchenyuk - James van Riemsdyk
Zach Parise - Ryan Kesler - Phil Kessel
Brandon Saad - David Backes - Beau Bennett
Emerson Etem - Nick Bjugstad

injury replacement: T.J. Oshie

Ryan McDonagh - John Carlson
Ryan Suter - Seth Jones
Cam Fowler - Justin Faulk
Torey Krug - Kevin Shattenkirk

injury replacement: Jacob Trouba

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider
Ben Bishop

injury replacement: John Gibson

Forward

The forward group for this team is also very young. None of these guys will be so old by 2018 as to immediately knock them out of the running.

Brown, Backes, Kesler, Parise, Pavelski (34)
Callahan Stastny (33)
Oshie, Wheeler (32)
Kessel (31
Kane, Pacioretty (30)
Van Riemsdyk (29)
Stepan (28)

Defense

Unlike from 2010 basically the entire 2014 defense can probably be counted on to return.

Fowler (26)-Carlson (28)
McDonaugh (28)-Faulk (26)
Suter(32)- Shattenkirk (28)

Jack Johnson will be 31, Erik Johnson 32 and Keith Yandle 31

Goalie

Quick (31) Should still be in the prime of his career assuming these recent injuries are just a fluke and not chronic.
Gibson (24) Should push Quick for the starting spot.
Schneider (31) hopefully he's finally a starter :sarcasm:
Bishop (32)

My team if I have to pick now

Galchenyuk-Stepan-Kane
Van Riemsdyk-Pavelski-Kessel
Pacioretty-Backes-Saad
Kreider-Kesler-Coyle
Oshie-Eichel

Suter-Jones
McDonaugh-Faulk
Fowler-Carlson
J. Johnson-Trouba

Quick
Gibson
Schneider

Forsberg - Backstrom - Landeskog
D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Eriksson
Zetterberg - Wennberg - Zibanejad
Hagelin - Kruger - Steen

Couture-Bergeron-Skinner
McDavid
Drouin/Nuge

Subban-Pietro

Zetterberg - Wennberg - Zibanejad
Hagelin - Kruger - Steen

Brodin - Ekman-Larsson
Hjalmarsson - Karlsson
Kronwall - Lindholm

Lehner
Lundqvist

You don't think Elias Lindholm would make the team?

Can you imagine when you add Hall/Seguin/MacKinnon/Drouin/McDavid to the already existing young core? Anything can happen in one off tournaments, and other countries are very good in their own rights, but I think Canada will become an even more formidable opponent in 2018.

attempt at canada forwards, assuming it is back on the small NA ice too

Duchene-Crosby-Stamkos
Mcdavid-Tavares-Eberle
E kane - Toews - Mackinnon
Couturier - Cizikas (yes, I'm being completely serious and not just a homer) - Bergeron
getzlaf, Drouin/Strome/RNH

Still going with this.

Still going with this.

i think/hope that usa hockey has a huge overhaul by then, then yandle okposo and ryan will be on the team and actually help them win something, i also think that bjustad and nelson will be there are atlaest strongly considered by this time

I can never resist myself with threads like these...

Forwards

Couture (28) -Crosby (30) -Stamkos (28) (Couture should be able to slide in here just fine; I actually wanted this line this year)

Benn (28) -Tavares (27) -Seguin (26) (Benn-Seguin connection + Tavares; I'm sure Seguin will have matured his game by then)

Schwartz (25) -Toews (29) -Perry (32) (Getzlaf essentially falls victim to the numbers game like Thornton did this year because of a lack of versatility to go to wing; you can't leave off that dominant of a natural RW though; Schwartz being a natural wing and possessing a good two-way game bodes well, although his size is a question mark)

Couturier (25) -Bergeron (32) -Johansen (25) (two massive players (both left-handed and right-handed) that are showing signs they could be dominant two-way players; Bergeron is the same as always)

Duchene (27) (wanted to put him at LW on line 2 or 3, but opted for natural wings)

McDavid (21) (should be ready for a protege role)

D-men

Murray (24) -Pietrangelo (28) (I believe Murray will be a top-flight d-man by this time, which is very helpful as a left-handed shot; I think Pietrangelo will be the best blueliner in the world at this time)

Vlasic (30) -Doughty (28) (Vlasic is like a Bergeron; you know he'll be playing the same game and providing the same positive attributes; Doughty is a given)

Keith (34) -Weber (32) (I have no reason to believe they won't be star defensemen still; even if their skills have deteriorated a bit by then, they'll still be there for leadership like Niedermayer and Pronger were; I think each could have another couple kicks at the can for the Olympics even)

Subban (28) (I'm sure he'll have rounded out his game but I can't put him above those three RD)

Oleksiak (25) (shot in the dark, but I needed another LHD; His ridiculous size would be very enticing, and he looks like a great prospect)

Goalies

Price (30) (should be the starter then too if all goes according to plan)

Bernier (29) (seems logical, I guess?)

Mason (29) (I could see him being a solid but not spectacular option like Smith is now)

Think Hedman will be pretty good in 2018, should've made the team this year imo, Also Adam Larsson maybe? Kronwall will be pretty old.
