Just opening up a thread as I don't want to pollute others with Non-Sen updates and discussion.

Anderson McDonald looked fantastic in Moncton last night, he's the type of player the Sens will be looking at.

Probably the 2nd best goal scorer in the draft.

Jack McBain is someone to watch. He's playiing tier II and committed to Boston College... He is ranked all over the place in the first round. Watched him in the Hlinka and he looked good.

Two other forwards to watch out for on the USNTDP team are Joel Farabee and Oliver Wahlstrom.

2018 has quite a few very promising D-men. Dahlin, Boqvist, Hughes, Smith, McIsaac, Wilde, Woo all first rounders ..

I'm in love with McIsaac, he is unbelievable.

Dobson is extremely underrated as well, should be a top 25 pick.

I basically only see guys from the Q, and usually have a good grasp on guys there, and then a few BCHL/USHL games a year. I like hearing about guys in the OHL/WHL from those who see them.

So.....how do people see the depth of this draft? Seems a lot of folks looked down on 2017 before the draft, but just a few months later looks like 2017 was underrated. How does 2018 compare?

So the Sens still have picks 3-7 for this year, correct?

Will they hold onto those picks or will they be gone by the deadline for rentals?

I could see Dorion at least holding onto the 3rd and maybe try to trade up into the 2nd round at the draft.

Ok so we need to project into the 3rd round now . ... takes a little luster off the draft for us.. But I really like the 3rd and 4th round picks we got this year.

Like last year when we traded Lazar to CGY for a 2nd, I would not be surprised to see us find a way back into the 2nd round.

Condon, or Dzingel at the draft, or Wideman at the deadline, I think those are guys who we might explore flipping for picks. Wideman probably doesn't get us a 2nd, but I could see Condon or Dzingel getting us that.

We have 5 picks total since we have the Rangers 7th rounder. No picks in R1 or R2 as you stated. I doubt we trade picks from this draft to get rentals.

A lot of people have speculated that maybe we'd trade Wideman or an extra D for a forward, maybe it makes more sense to trade that D for a pick in order to have some added currency at the deadline. Unless someone emerges from within the organization as a solution, this team needs another top 9 forward.

McIsaac that low is very wrong, IMO of course.

I love Dobson, I have for a while, but he isn't above McIsaac.

Veleno I agree with, I had him 5th from the Q last year, and he'd be lower this year with Zadina in Halifax.

Veleno ... had that exceptional status thing right? Anyway the games I 've seen him he looked good but not great. I am not sure he has the upside to be a top line player. He still gets ranked in the top 10 a lot.. so I don't know if its reputation or he is better than what I saw.

He had the exceptional status, but basically "leveraged" his way to it through. He was not a Crosby/McDavid or even Ekblad. He was denied the status a few months before the draft at the actual deadline, but it was "revisited" after Saint John won the draft lottery.

He is still a 1st, and I'd be willing to bet he is the 2nd/3rd QMJHL player taken.

Anderson McDonald seems to be trending in the direction towards our first pick in the draft, I would think he will be on our radar.

When did the Sens get there 1st back?

I could see the Sens maybe trying to trade up in the draft, but probably only into the 2nd round at best, doubt MacDonald lasts that long.

He is dropping toward 3rd territory. I'm a big fan of his.

Ranked outside the 1st (only 31 guys ranked) in McKeens
Ranked 28th by FC
Ranked outside the 1st (only 31 guys ranked) in HockeyProspect
Ranked outside the 1st (only 31 ranked) by ISS
Ranked 70th by Craig Button

I don't take some of these lists very seriously at all, but he is definitely trending towards the 2nd/3rd.

I didn't realize he dropped in the rankings, I usually see him around the end of the 1st round in most lists. I've caught a few Moncton games this year(on TV) and I'm definitely a fan, given the Sens draft history over the last few years he's for sure on the radar, but might be a stretch given the picks we have left.

One player that I've liked a lot in the 3rd range is Owen Lalonde in Guelph, he's playing 2nd fiddle behind Merkley but his skating is so smooth and seems to always be at the right place on the ice, maybe a bit of a Chabot light? He's a right shot too which I think the Sens could use more depth at.
