It's based on advanced stats, I didn't just come up with it.

Zibanejad matched equally with Lapras, but Lapras was one of the best in the original game.

Staal as Psyduck is pretty spot on though, since he tends to give us a lot of headaches when he is on the ice.

Some recent ex-Rangers:

Shattenkirk : Poliwhirl
Hayes : Poliwrath (good attack and defense)
Vesey : Drowzee (useless unless everyone else is KO'd)
Pionk : Haunter (shit defense w/ good special attack)

I mean it's not perfect but it's definitely not random.

I think Farfetch'd was determined to be the worst pokemon in the original RBY. Kinda makes sense for Strome.

It's not perfect (mainly the TOI : HP part,) but it is surprisingly in-the-ballpark, generally.

Farfetch'd wasn't that weak, because he didn't any other evolutions, so he was about as strong as the likes of Beedrill, Pidgeotto, Koffing, etc., so roughly the upper tier of the bottom 1/3. His moveset was absolutely terrible though, and IIRC you were only able to get him in a trade, and he came with an equally terrible nickname. I think the similarity scores are based on Gen II and on, since in Gen I they only had a Special stat, it wasn't divided into S. Attack and S. Defense until Gold & Silver.

Yes, I'm aware I know way, way too much about Pokemon, I've made my peace with it long ago.
