Well, Finland finished off the game very effectively in only 22 mins. Then happened a typical junior match change of psychological balance with a couple of easy goals and they got like 50% more steam and Finns faltered. Ergo the shot numbers. I would give this pair clearly to Finland about 60-65 to 35-40, no question.
This is, by the way, a good notion to keep in mind the next time somebody suggests filling our U20 team with primarily U18 players, even if they do appear to have more raw skill than some of the candidates in the main age class. Because that skill is, very literally, raw. When they begin to fly, they can soar, but if things start rolling the wrong way, the value of more mature heads - even by a year or two - becomes very evident.
What a crazy game today between Fin and CZE.
Big props to the Czechs for battling hard. I'll have to say that the FIN goalie really made some huge saves in OT. I thought the Czechs would win for sure.
ps. speaking of robbery, Slovakia got screwed over hard on the 3rd goal which was disallowed. I didn't see any kicking motion. Oh well. Looking fwd to seeing Fin vs RUS on Saturday.
