Players to Follow
Joni Ikonen and Nico Hischier ( center versus center)

Absolutely amazing puck movement by the first line. Vesalainen makes it 2-0.

the more efficient team leads after 20min. the swiss were skating harder, the finns played smarter.

Good 1st period for Finland and well earned 2-0 lead

Hischier has showed that why he's consensus 2nd overall and Nolan Patrick's challenger for 1st overall selection in upcoming draft.
Clearly Switzerland's best player on the ice.

while the swiss were unlucky to go out of the first with a 2 goal deficit, the certainly were extremly lucky to get only 2 in the second.

absolute domination by the finns. what a period, physically and technically at least one step ahead.

Look that Finland's roster there's best European draft eligible goalie ( Luukkonen) who's most promising Finnish goalie since Juuse Saros..

Finland is a team who wants keep puck so much as ever possible and they work together all ends on the ice.
Finland's rock solid team defence has done really good job shutting down Hischier and keeping him away of dangerous scoring areas and scoring chances.

Hischier has been clearly best Swiss player in this game no question on that.
But he can't score all goals and points by himself he needs his linemates.

Look example Finland's 1st line and that how they finished 3-1 attack.
That finish was pure magic. No chance for Swiss goalie to even try save that goal.

I knew about the depth Finland got in this generation. and I agree the quality in Goal is much better for the finns. Nevertheless Im impressed.

Hischier while cleary the best isn't alone on this swiss team.Geisser, Kurashev, Eggenberger and a few others are good enough to help.

but of course it would need a few players more of this quality to really be capable to compete with the finns.

Kurashev, Eggenberger and Geisser were good too but Hischier was the best.
Yeah Finland has quality players in the team but losing Tolvanen ( playing in USHL playoffs) and Heponiemi ( Playing in WHL playoffs) hurt our team.
But that's not the case or obstacle Finland's success in this tournament.

Switzerland's men's national team is getting really good 1st center of Hischier.
He's really good and highly touted Swiss prospect for a reason.

Losing 5-1 to U18's for Finland is bad result for Switzerland but maybe in the future Switzerland will be solid challenger for Finland in the senior level.
But in this tournament Switzerland doesn't have enough depth and quality players to compete with Finland we are defending world champions for a reason.

By the way do you see Hischier has chances to compete for a roster spot in Switzerland's senior team in IIHF world championships.
This game was my first when i see Hischier on the ice. I'm pressed how good he's and i wanna see more of him.

Very good game and good win.
With better luck in scoring chances this game would have been 7-1 or 8-1 to Finland.

Switzerland's goal was really sloppy play by Finland's defence.
We can't allow that-kind goals in next games ( especially versus Canada).

I did not see the game. Could you compare SWI team today and Slovakia 2 days ago?

Slovakia was much better vs Finland than Switzerland today.
Slovakian players like Hrehorcak caused a lot troubles for Finland's defence also playing in front their home-crowd gave them a lot energy.
And Finland couldn't respond on that at the times.

Slovakia scored almost all their goals of Finland's bad plays or mistakes.
And of course they scored one powerplay goal ( Hrehorcak).

Switzerland today was really sloppy goalies didn't have best day.
Hischier tried to do too much by himself and Switzerland's defence was horrible.

Especially Linus Nyman ( Kingston Frontenacs player) was on fire tonight.
Nyman scored Finland's first 2 goals and assisted Finland's 4th goal.

There was only one team on the ice first 40 minutes and it wasn't Switzerland they were serious troubles in their defensive zone entire 2nd period.
Finland's 3rd goal Nico Gross lost puck and defenders left Kotkaniemi wide open in best scoring sector and he scored 3-0 goal.

Especially Finland's 4th goal describes Switzerland's defence.
I don't know what a hell they were doing when they allowed 3-1 attack for Finland Vesalainen dekes Swiss defender out of the situation.
And plays puck for Nyman he ( Nyman) plays goalie out of the situation and gives crispy pass to Ikonen and he scores 4-0 in empty net.

Switzerland's only goal came 3rd period when they had good pressure in their offensive zone.
Finland's defence couldn't play puck out of the zone and they froze totally.
Hischier takes the rebound and plays puck for Matewa and he plays puck to Muller and Muller scores empty net.

But Finland didn't give up 13 seconds later Finnish defenceman Otto Latvala gets a good passes for Kotkaniemi and Koskenkorva and he shoots 5-1 goal.
There was good screen of front Switzerland's net and their back-up goalie didn't have chances to save that goal.

Also Switzerland's powerplay was bad today.
Hischier created good scoring chances in Switzerland's powerplays but unfortunately no-one couldn't bury them.

Finland got only two powerplays and scored one goal ( Linus Nyman in first period).
Switzerland changed their goalie in 2nd intermission but it didn't help them tonight.

Finland was better team and deserved 3 points.
Best players awarded by both teams Switzerland Andreas Döpfner Finland Linus Nyman.
End of story.

I agree about most you write, but the first period was much closer IMO. Finland was the better team out of the blocks till they scored first. Then they were outskated by the swiss for the big parts of the rest, last two minutes or so were again finnish pressure. Before the 2-0 the swiss had their chances to equalize. They have outshot the finns for a reason in the first.

Once the finns started to forecheck early in the second, the lack of puck- moving ability on D under pressure was obvious and the lack of physical strengh and technical limits within the swiss team were exposed and couldn't be covered anymore through fast skating. As the finnish pressure didn't allow them anymore to get into situations to get to full speed. BTW that's the easiest way to beat swiss senior teams as well: attack hard and early and don't allow them to out work you, don't let them play their transition game.

And regarding Hischier. There was some talk about it, but he has stated as well that he 's pretty tired after a long season. IMO he needs some seasoning and gain strengh before a nomination as he isn't a pure skill player but a warrior as well who does tend to put himself into physically risky situations once in a while. I don't want him to be crushed, being fatigue does raise the risk as well. So rather not IMO
