WC: 2017 Team USA

Slavin has come a long way from a long shot 4th rounder to top pairing defenseman, and a really good one at that. I think he'd relish the opportunity to play in a tournament like this. I don't know about Faulk, but I think there's a solid chance Slavin and Hanifin go if invited. Barring other random commitments I don't know about.
 
Ordinarily I wouldn't expect Eichel to play but with Larkin recruiting players and with the Sabres having a rough season, I think he might go just to get the bad taste out of his mouth and end his season on a high note. He clearly wants to keep playing hockey right now

At the beginning of the season for sure. You never know what injuries a player may be dealing with, but if he is hypothetically still dealing with a bum ankle at this point then Buffalo is crazy for not resting him once their season was over games ago.

Wouldn't be the first time guys played through "minor" injuries in meaningless games and then wanted "rest" their "injuries" during this tournament.
 
Jimmy Howard accepted invite, Abdelkader wants to join team but is getting knee looked at so probably won't play

Wow. Didn't expect Howard to go. The US has pretty good goalies this year. Howard had absolutely great numbers this season. For as much as people here seem to dislike him here, Abdelkader would be a great addition. At least he wants to go.

Wow @ Howard. This is a good sign that guys are viewing this a little differently now. Hopefully more established guys follow...we have plenty of young guys to fill in gaps. Count me cautiously optimistic.

Which is why I was very confused.

I figured Palmieiri would be one of their first calls of the eliminated teams.

Moore would be a very good option for the open ice. If I recall correctly, Moore's performance at his last WC is a big part of the reason why Shero signed him. Merrill had a decent year this year as well although he would likely be further down on the list, if he's even there.
