I would think and prefer that this will be a youngish team built on speed. The U.S. tends to fare well with that approach at this tournament even if the individual players aren't usually star caliber.

Larkin will be the Ryan Kesler of this group - he will answer the bell when asked most times and be a leader on the ice.

Sucks to see the NHL decision on 2018, but anyway with half a brain saw this coming hence the World Cup plopping out after a 12 year absence. Like it or not, the World Cup is the closest we see to the Olympics for some time./

Do we have a womens hockey thread? I'm going to be honest, I'm not a big follower of the womens game, but that 3-2 OT win by those US women was one of the best hockey games I've ever seen.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't follow women's hockey at all but anytime we beat Canada at "their game" its great. But I suppose we won't hear about women's hockey again until the next big tournament.

Defenceman Jacob Trouba says he'd love to play for the U.S. but needs to heal up, first.

“I've got a call, but I have to make a decision on that,” Trouba said. “I want to go. It's a good opportunity to represent your country and something I've always enjoyed doing.”

Byfuglien said he expected interest from Team USA, too, but would have to “cross that path when it comes.”

As long as they drop the stupid gimmick teams I'll survive

I think they will...they have no choice if they want everyone to take this serious.

After watching how the u23 team severely hurt team USA, I think they realized how that only hurts this tournament.

I think most if not all of us can agree that Gaudreau, Eichel, Saad, and Jones all likely would have made team USA. You could have made a case for Gibson, Trocheck, and Matthews especially with how shallow at center we were.

Either way, when they do this again, you simply cannot punish US/Canada and take away some of their better players.

the team Europe thing wasn't nearly as bad as it didn't hurt any other country in the tournament, but you can't have teams representing countries and one representing a continent.

USA- Canada- Sweden - Russia- Finland - Czech - Swiss - ??? whatever team wins a quick round robin prior between Norway, Slovakia, Germany, and Denmark perhaps...

Trouba just mentioned in a local radio interview that Andrew Copp may be playing for USA.
