I think I understand Matthews, and if not for the rumors, seeing Kane at least seriously considering to go, is also a positive.

Matthews lists the reason Eichel had last year too. And Laine has a very similar reason this year. They are rookies. I can absolutely understand this and I'm pretty ok with it. I think it's safe to say that next time these players have the opportunity and are healthy, they will go.

Kane, I think it's a good thing he was considering it. Who knows, maybe he will say yes for some other tournament in the near future.

The thing I am angry about is Shannon (SN reporter). I am starting to think how much was Laughlin wrong when he thought Shannon had reported Doughty's accepting and calling HC himself, and how much it maybe was true what he heard. Shannon clearly himself stated that "hearing that Patrick Kane will quickly confirm he's going to the Worlds for USA." We now know that it hardly was true in exactly that sentense he put it in.

Shannon has clearly outed himself as an outsider with no inside scoop/channel to any NHL players.

A former league employee perhaps he some connection with the league offices in Toronto/New York, but I doubt that they are all that solid either.
I'll just ignore anything he says going forward.

Well a lot of names still out there I'm pretty confident that the final roster spots are going to go to establish NHLers. Already a solid core in place and I think the guys that are out there we're going to fill out this team and make it one of the strongest ever. I don't like the delay in naming these guys but I also look at it as a positive as we really haven't been officially told no on anybody though Matthews obviously seems to say that..

There are still a ton of reasonable names out there that I'm sure we can get 4 to 5 to come on board and I think USA hockey is taking their time probably waiting on a few responses back with some of the more higher level skilled guys.

A Nick Foligno a Seth Jones a Matt Tkachuk a Charlie McAvoy a Alex Galchenyuk all are very realistic targets and I would be surprised if a few of those aren't named.

Matthews and Kane are obviously the top two names I can definitely understand Matthews many of us never really thought Kane would be in the hunt for this...but it was even reported by our own beat reporter from the Tribune that Kane was likely going because Patrick Kane was telling people he was likely going, that's where the issue came from his mouth and it seems the Chicago Blackhawks stepped in like they normally do and told him to take a breath and think about it and not react on impulse as he was still in the adrenaline of losing.

Either way this team is going to be solid we know that it could've been amazing but will still see who signed on and I'm pretty damn positive we're going to be happy with at least a few of the names

Seems like defense is set then?

TVR
McAvoy
Trouba
Murphy
DeKeyser
Brickley
Hanifin

It's lacking top pair defenseman. Seth Jones would be perfect for this defense.

They could add one more d-man, but if it's not Jones I don't think it's necessary at this point. And it seems like Jones is out.

Hopefully TVR means JVR is about to sign on.

The only reason TVR is here is to lure JVR. I am not trying to bash the kid but he had a real rough year he just isn't that good he's a bottom pairing defenseman nothing more or nothing less. Sad to see as to name him pretty much means all the big defenseman aren't coming. I love to see McAvoy here but would really love to see Seth Jones anchor that blue line.

I am pretty suprised they didn't ask Galchenyuk. It wasn't his best season but still would be really good addition. I also think they start tournament with this group and maybe add couple guys after second round. JVR would be great but i doubt it.

Solid team. I got too excited about it but still should acquit itself well. Probably not gold medal though

We won bronze with a far less team than this and if the last few names are pretty solid NHLers which we are all hoping they will be this team is definitely a gold-medal contender .

We honestly didn't have too many options for defense as Seth Jones and Jake Gardiner have played so many times in the last how many years in this tournament they probably wanted to take a break kind of stinks that it came down to those names as they have represented this tournament a lot.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I went on the NHL Network's site, and their schedule is up through 5/08. They have WC games listed, generally at 10 and 2, and sometimes a game in the evening, although usually a repeat of one of the two early games. The first 3 USA games are included. So no NBCSN this year. God forbid a episode of Goal Zone would have to be pre-empted. Or a showing of Premiership rugby. I think this is great news, and makes sense since they have shown 3 other IIHF tourneys this year.

Yeah but to win gold you have to beat two to three big boys. Not just one. Think it's unlikely for this squad.

There has been lot declines also in other countries this year. Sweden looks tough but i think this year is even more open than usually.
