Well, i think one thing that speaks against this is that he might want some redemption on the national team since both the olympics and world cup. Surely some of them must want to, somewhat maybe do a Michael Nylander who was passed over for team sweden for the 2006 olympics, then came to the world championships and redeemed himself some with claiming the gold.
I think there are a few things at play here-
These ESPN articles that have pretty much trashed USA Hockey and those that haven't answered the call have to be getting read by the players as the last one was just a few days ago.
Kane is obviously the face of USA Hockey right now - he is in the top 3-5 players in the World, and our biggest star. If he comes to this thing, it finally opens the door for the rest of the club to get on board as this tournament matters - I can't even stress how HUGE this is if Kane comes because it has repercussions that will be felt for years - our star players will start to take this seriously.
For Kaner I will say this:
A. Not married
B. No kids
C. Had a great healthy regular season/crappy playoffs - still wants to play hockey
D. No Olympics
These factors have to be big reasons why he would come. Yes, he has also talked glowingly about all his times playing for USA since his USNDP days, so there is patriotism there...and likely since he has been with the Hawks he really hasn't had much chance to even play for this team as the Hawks have gone deep in the playoffs more times than not..and if they did lose early, it was a hard fought series typically right after a Stanly Cup winning grind the year prior - for Kane, back to back playoff loses has obviously not wore him down.
I am anxiously awaiting the official news of this, but if Kane is coming, I am 100% positive that all the other top names available will be asking to play as well - Jones, Atkinson, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Saad, etc.. are all young and who the hell wouldn't want to play with Kane and Eichel for 2 more weeks??
