I don't think Bjork's addition necessarily has a whole lot to do with current NHLers turning down invites. Him being added now before the first round is over likely means he was always considered a lock and USAH was just waiting on him saying yes. With no NHLers in Olympics, he's on the team to gain experience playing against pros because there's a good chance he'll represent the US in the Olympics

I always wish USA well in this tournament, both for the troll aspect of USA winning but not caring at all and because some success might prompt better participation in the future. This year looks kind of typical for USA with good goaltending and mobile defence. Not a favourite but a dangerous team.

If Howard or Hellebuyck play well this team on track for another bronze medal game appearance or so.

Kinda meaningless really to bring just one guy for that. I don't like the add but whatever, he'll probably play like 3 minutes.

I was so excited about this team when I saw the first commitments but I gotta say with more and more college players being added I'm afraid this might be another version of "team no-show". Just for once I would love some USA star power. I'll support this team 110% but I really just want to seriously contend for gold.Players should be jumping at the chance to put the Team USA jersey on but it seems with American players they just don't care...unless of course it's the Olympics then they get all butt hurt if there left off the team.

paging Patrick Kane - Mr. Kane if you need to do any charity work this year, please come on board to this team after the Hawks lifelessly fade away tomorrow...thank you!

I dont expect Kane to show up in the worlds, but if he does he would certainly put some star glance to the US and to the tournament.

A huge get.

now, if only my pal Connor would oblige and join Team Canada once the Oilers are put away, sets up a Canada v USA gold medal game.

And the US now has their #1 center for the tournament. I didn't think he'd play after the roster announcements came and he didn't wasn't on it. Glad to be wrong. Getting Matthews before the tournament doesn't appear likely now that Toronto is leading their series but they'll probably leave 1 open spot for him if they were to lose to Penguins in round 2, so it's good to get Jack. Believe 3 forward spots remain. Would be nice to get another C like Galchenyuk if Montreal is ousted cause Larkin and Nelson are better on the wing to me.

Huge. So pumped Eichel is there.

Craig Custance just put out an update from the players side about the Worlds. Eye opening but not unexpected incompetence from USAH management:

Makes the additions of guys like Greenway, Brickley, and Bjork even more premature. Adding a guy like Eichel will make upcoming invites to players about to be eliminated more intriguing.

If Johnny Hockey decides he wants in on the fun, then things get interesting.

ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY AWESOME!!! :handclap: :handclap: :handclap:

We have our star!!

Now we only have 2 more forward spots which is why I said adding Bjork was beyond stupid. I am sure we can snag a few more solid NHL forwards disappointed from being eliminated still wanting to play hockey - hell, there is about 6 Ranger forwards alone that likely would come..

What I don't get is why they don't have a laundry list of eligible players ranked by preference and systematically go down the line. If you end up with some college/minor league players as a last resort so be it but it shouldn't be a knee jerk response.

exactly, my problem is this - if you are unsure how many guys will accept from playoff teams, fine, ask some college kids if they will play, but don't name them right away..tell them it is contingent on players accepting 1st round playoff loses - how freaking hard is that?

my issue with naming these college kids is it absolutely hampers whatever excitement or solid looking team being built as guys on the bubble or about to lose in the playoffs see that and feel the team is going to be weak again - it isn't a recruiting tool - unless the kid is a legit star player like Eichel was coming out of college.

there is no reason to tell these kids - you are "back up" options that we might need. that isn't going to deter them, they know this is a great opportunity for them.

You can have 22 skaters on the roster, so we could have up to 4 more forward spots, although a 3/3 split of the remaining 6 spots between forwards and defense seems more likely.

do you honestly feel we are going to fill that out? I don't recall if we ever fully filled out the 25 man roster - I don't think USA Hockey has any clue what they are doing at this tournament which the article you linked pretty much showed- very good read by the way.

to me, they will stay loyal to college kids they picked, I hope I am wrong but if we truly have 6 more spots to fill, this team can get real good real fast if they do it.

US went with 14 Fs, 7 D and 3 Gs last year and 14 Fs 8 D and 3 Gs in 2015. Think they will fill the roster this year. I believe at this tournament you can dress 20 skaters plus the goalies. Love the roster. Hope they can add 2 more more NHL defensemen, wonder if Pesce is still an option? If Bruins are eliminated would like to see McAvoy. Don't think anyone has mentioned Zucker but he would be a great fit for this style of hockey.

Going to be a good tourney I think. Sweden has put together an exceptional team and it looks like other teams are pulling in their NHL guys at a higher rate than normal. I'm planning on catching 5 games in Cologne and 2 in Paris, may have to up that number.
