WJC: 2017 Team USA Roster Talk

Why Duh? They don't have to cover the games. Heres the actual tweet USAHockey sent out.

NHL Network will televise the final six games from this week's USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
Wednesday, August 3 - Canada vs Finland - 1:00 pm ET - United States vs Sweden - 4:00 pm ET.
Friday, August 5 - Sweden vs Canada - 1:00 pm ET - United States vs Finland - 4:00 pm ET.
Saturday, August 6 - Sweden vs Finland - 4:00 pm ET - United States vs Canada - 7:00 pm ET.

So far Team USA is 3-1 in its exhibitions against Finland/Sweden. The cuts are in the morning. Last year, they cut 8 players (from a 40 player camp roster), and this year they're at 41 (really 42 but Tkachuk is not playing), so I'm guessing there will be 8/9 players sent home. Who do you think is going home?

Did any of the cut players make the final roster? I assume it's more beneficial to scout the bubble players and send a few locks home early.

Realistic lineup? That forward group is really deep. Gonna be some tough cuts. Does Thompson make it?
 
Surprised Greenway and Warren got cut. Thought Pitlick could've gotten more of a look too.

Didn't really stand out from what I saw. Too deep of a forward group for him to have a realistic chance IMO. His time is next year.
 
No surprising cuts. Middlestadt may shock some but he wasn't going to beat out the older, more experienced players for a scoring line role anyway.

He's also a loose cannon that continues to have discipline issues. You can channel that during an 82 game NHL season but not in a short tournament where discipline is paramount.

Why? He is a defensively lazy player and there are other players who are offensively strong but all have other attributes.

I don't think that has any merit at all. He is undersized and his skating needs work but "lazy" is far from a fair description of his play.

They need his abilities out there. Always been a key contributor for Team USA over the years. Ron Wilson is not someone I would let pick my teams.

Pretty damn good top 9.

Is Thompson really not a lock to make this team? I trust you guys as I don't follow these guys very much until they're drafted players. Just a little surprised.

Not even close to a lock, although he's certainly helped his chances so far, but there's been numerous guys to put up great stats at the summer camp to not make the team. Plus, it's a loaded group up front to choose from.
 
First period against Sweden...down 3-0. Team USA doesn't seem to realize they're supposed to be playing. First goal by Woll was very weak, and Adam Fox looks lost defensively. But to be fair to them, no one looked good in that first outside of Keller.
