Actually, there is a lot of things that confuse me about dual citizens. I do not understand, how a presidential candidate named Ted Cruz, born in Canada (and spent the first 4 years of his life in Canada) to a Cuban Father and American Mother, meets the "Natural Born Citizen" criteria of the US constitution (only gave up his Canadian Citizenship in 2014 before he was planning on running). It is what it is. Good for Brown going forward. Frankly, Chychrun like his buddy Brown, should play for the US as well. Looking at this projected roster, i think the US will be the favourite for Gold next year.

All well and good but you do understand that the 23 American NHL teams and the many American based minor leagues teams are contributing players to US hockey programs. Players that are born to hockey playing dads. Not just Canadian but from other countries as well.

The current USA U18 team has at least 4. Bellows will likely play with the U20 team. 6 duals not counting Bode Wilde on the youth oylmpic team.

It will be pretty tough for anyone else to compete in international hockey. Who says that genetics, affluence and opportunity aren't involved.=[/QUOTE]

You write this about NHL players sons everywhere, what's your point?

I'm going to change my mind after watching some of these players at the WJC-18. I'll operate under the assumption of no Matthews, but we get everyone else.

Tkachuk-White-Boeser
Bellows-Keller-Roslovic
Mittlestadt-Brown-Yamamoto
Tufte-Kunin-Jones
Debrincat

Werenski-McAvoy
Dineen-Jones
Fox-Foote
Peeke

Opilka
Oettinger
Parsons

That team just seems way too young.

looks good, but I'd replace Tufte with Christian Fischer though, fits the 4th line better with his two way game.

All depends on coaching staff

Debrincat ( he gets his last chance in LP ) in Roslovic spot
Greenway , 97', will make the team
Foley, Providence, and Thompson, Uconn, will be there in the end also.

Mittelstadt is playing HS hockey again next year. That will make it very hard for him to make this team.

Greenway doesn't belong on this squad - very subpar season, he won't make it unless he goes ape **** next year.

Foley is an "odd ball" type player that is a wild card. he has an uphill fight to just make the summer camp but seems to be the type of player who we do bring along while leaving more talented names behind.

Tage Thompson will likely make it. I get the concerns over his even strength goals, but his size and skillset is solid, his bloodlines are there as well...he is a solid top 30-45 pick who likely makes this squad as well.

Greenway started the season like crap, I totally agree

Then it finally "clicked"and he put up 24 pnts in last 26 games. Playing for BU in NCAA against older stronger players. His play Had a big impact on the decision of Greer to leave BU for the Q .

Looked like a completely different player in late November from beginning of year.

Greenway - forward and brother - defensemen - both long shots for team IMO. was talking about James, then started mixing in J.D haha..

you have been high on him for a while. I hope your right and things have clicked because we need more big and skilled defenders and that pool is getting kind of shallow from this draft and last.

J.D. Greenway -we have a lot of names in contention for those final 4-5 defensive spots, so hopefully he shines in the camp and takes one as Lindgren, Fox, Krys, Jones, Peeke, Dineen, etc are all solid names in the mix., McAvoy and Werenski locks.

He's talking about forward Jordan Greenway.

Now that the U20 hockey season is over (Werenski is still playing), I figured I'd project the potential camp roster. About 40 players should be invited like last year, and here's what I think the camp roster may look like:

Forwards (x24):

Joey Anderson
Kieffer Bellows
Brock Boeser
Alex DeBrincat
Jeremy Bracco
Logan Brown
Christian Fischer
Erik Foley
Trent Frederic
Jordan Greenway
Max Jones
Clayton Keller
Luke Kunin
Casey Mittelstadst
Tommy Novak
Jack Roslovic
Troy Terry
Tage Thompson
Matthew Tkachuk
Riley Tufte
Brendan Warren
Colin White
Kailer Yamamoto
Dennis Yan

Defense (x12):

Cameron Dineen
Callan Foote
Casey Fitzgerald
Adam Fox
Ben Gleason
James Greenway
Caleb Jones
Chad Krys
Ryan Lindgren
Joseph Masonius
Charlie McAvoy
Zach Osburn

Goalies (x4):

Jake Oettinger
Luke Opilka
Tyler Parsons
Joseph Woll

Notes:
  • Matthews and Hanifin obviously won't be available, which is a huge blow, but this is the next hurdle for the development of USAH -- we should be striving to have these types of players unavailable each tournament.
  • Werenski will likely be the linchpin on whether this team is a gold medal contender or just a medal contender. Earlier in the year I thought the odds were in his favor to be available, but with his play in the AHL, I think it's likely he's not. Either way, I think it's best (unless Werenski wants to participate) for the team that he sits out the Evaluation Camp. This will give a chance for other players to set up in his absence early on. If Werenski somehow is available in December then you get to add the tournament's best defenseman.
  • Mittelstadt had a good U18 (even if he was the third best player on his line), but I'm bummed by his decision to return to high school hockey. He went from being a contender for the team to a long shot at best. (I say that knowing USAH could totally go USAH -- they like to overthink everything)
  • It's easy to find more forwards worthy of a camp invite, but I can't say the same for the defense.

Callan Foote was just named to Team Canada's summer camp roster. Interesting as I wasn't aware that he'd even be eligible for Canada at this WJC.

I'm not really sure how he would be. He was born in the born in the US and he has only spent one year playing in Canada.

How is his situation different with Canada than Jake Walman's was last year with USA Hockey?

My thoughts exactly. Hockey Canada isn't as incompetent as USAH though, so I would imagine they've vetted it already.
