According to the original Watson article, Blum could barely hold his stick during the last game. Of course that's your typical Zaugg exaggeration, but it doesn't sound good. That leaves Diaz and Kukan (probably) as the only top defensemen available.

Let's hope St Louis will be more helpful than the useless Blackhawks.

El Nino said he wouldn't come anyway. Blum being injured isn't such a bad thing, hopefully Unterstander and Kukan will get a shot. Then, I'm a bit skeptical about Diaz, he looked awful in the final. Hiller and Genoni -should he get the call- will have to be stellar between the pipes, otherwise this is gonna be ugly.

I don't think that Diaz looked awful, he wasn't outstanding but there was also a lot of pressure on him and he had to carry the whole team, which is nearly impossible in a final.

Genoni said today on blick.ch that he hopes to play at the WC.

According to some twitter-sources we'll see Malgin-Romy-Almond together tomorrow. 3 centers in one line. Interesting.

Strange line, but Fischer experimented a bit last year too, so I wouldn't read too much into it. I guess that Ambühl, Haas and Schäppi will center the other lines.

Blick reports:

No Blum and no Moser and no Plüss.

From the SCB Genoni, Untersander, Bodenmann and Rüfenacht got a call.

It seems that on saturday we will know if Hischier will make it to the preparation camp for the WC.
5 assists and 1 goal with the U18, his line with Kurashev has been pretty good even though he looks tired as hell.

If you read the newest article on watson on this topic it seems that Bärtschi and Andrighetto won't join and that Hischier will indeed get a call.

We'll know on Saturday for sure.

Yeah, that's the one I mean.

Of course it's speculative, we'll see, I don't think that they'll be ready, but that's also just speculation to make my post sound more dramatic. :)

Raffainer confirms that they won't call Hischier, because he needs a rest and they want him to be ready for the draft and get some holidays before.

That is the right thing to do.
Way too tired to bring something big at the WC and it risks to damage him more than do him good.
If the no Andrighetto no Bärtschi thing is confirmed, the roster is starting to look a little shallow.. how is the lineup looking like at the moment for the Danmark matches?

I don't think either, but that's the pessimistic in me talking! :D

At forward it would be the same lineup as for the Russia matches plus Rüfenacht and Bodenmann. I don't think any Zug forward is a big upgrade.

Oh boy no Ghetto nor Baertschi, El Nino isn't coming since he doesn't have a contract for next year, Sbisa is expecting a child so he'll sit out this WC, the Swiss trio from the Preds + Streit are making it to the second round of the playoffs and should the Sharks be eliminated Meier would most likely join Mueller and Rod in the AHL. Heck we might get Bertschy  . I really don't like the way this team is shaping up.

I like Bertschy, always plays with a lot of heart and is quite skilled. Good skater also.

On the positive side, Kukan is available and hopefully will travel to Europe as soon as possible.

I miss the good old days of one week ago when Moser, Andrighetto and Bärtschi were about the complete the forward lines and Nashville was facing a tough first round matchup.

There's still a small chance to have Josi before the tournament starts, but it's unlikely. He could still join if Nashville loses in 6 or 7 games, but would arrive after the key games (I really hate that Switzerland always finishes with the three most difficult opponenents, it's the same crap every year. You'd think they would have fixed that schedule by now).

Tonight's lineup (by the way, it's on RSI2 if anybody is interested):

Flüeler (Schlegel)

Furrer - Loeffel
Geering - Sutter
Genazzi - Heldner
Paschoud

Herzog - Ambühl - Brunner
Hollenstein - Haas - Praplan
Almond - Romy - Malgin
Suter - Schäppi - Baltisberger
Riat

Not dressed: Hiller, Marti

Basically last weekend's lines plus the one that was already announced.

Good game by Switzerland, probably the best so far. Russia was disappointing, they started very well and deserved to lead but faded away as the game went on and Switzerland dominated the second period. Both teams had chances to take the lead early in the third, but Switzerland created more as the period went on. The Malgin-Romy-Almond experiment lasted only two periods, as Almond and Suter were switched for the third period.

The special teams didn't start well, with a goal allowed on the first PK and not much created on the first two PP (including a 5 minute one), but were much better later in the game. Good transition and offensive play, but still some difficult moments in the defensive zone as there were a few occasions where Russia managed to stay on offense for long periods.

The defensemen were mostly OK, I thought that Sutter and Genazzi stood out. Loeffel was the most questionable, not enough offensive presence to justify the defensive shortcomings. Flüeler had an excellent game, very few rebounds allowed.

Haas' line was the best, with some very nice play by Haas himself. Ambühl and Brunner had their moments but didn't play as well as against Slovakia. Schäppi and Baltisberger did a crazy amount of work on the forecheck and managed to created a few chances. Romy was excellent defensively, he helped the defense a lot. Malgin showed a lot of potential and had some highlight worthy plays, but he will need a few more games to fit in the team.

He took a shoulder hit in the head. There was a lot of blood but he was back in the game five minutes later and it didn't look like he suffered from it.

Tonight's lineup:

Hiller (Schlegel)

Furrer - Loeffel
Marti - Sutter
Genazzi - Heldner
Paschoud

Herzog - Romy - Brunner
Hollenstein - Haas - Praplan
Suter - Malgin - Ambühl
Almond - Schäppi - Baltisberger
Riat

Not dressed: Flüeler, Geering
