With the Rangers down 2-0 tonight you can't help but wonder whether Henrik Lundqvist would accept an invite. Tre Kronor could certainly use him.

Arguments in favour include Joel being the captain and this likely being the last opportunity they will ever get to play with each other in competitive play as well Henrik never having won the tournament.

Arguments against includes a long history of declined invites, Lundqvist last played the tournament in 2008, already being established as the clear #1 should there be NHL players at the Olympics next year, his weak regular season and perhaps most importantly the large number of games he has played over the last few years. Plus there's the matter of the tournament already having started, a goalie joining mid-tournament is a pretty rare occurrence as far as I know and Henrik might be hesitant to "steal" another goalie's spot.

One has to wonder if Sweden only picking two goalies was in case of Lehner signing a contract or if management had Lundqvist in mind. Perhaps Joel told them something? I presume he would know how his brother feels about the tournament.

Add in that Joel actually got the C and the two other goalies in place are playing sub-pair.

Weak play during the regular season is a bit double ended IMO players seem to want a chance to revenge themselves, this might not be relevant in Lundqvists case though since they made the csf

Damn i hoped that Zibanejad would join but now his contract is in the way so he wont arrive i doubt King Henrik joins but you never know with his brother Joel in the team

Ziba declined invite?

His contract situation stops him from going.

Berglund declines, I guess it was more fun playing in best on best tournaments he had no business being in.

Dammit Landeskog, just stop it! How many times has he been suspended now? I could buy the not used to IIHF rules except he keeps getting penalties in NHL as well. Love that he stands up for his team mates (see Kink) but if you're going to be dirty, either keep it on the right side of the line or make sure the ref doesn't see it.

Relax, we have one (EDIT: two) physical forwards in Sweden now and we will need him, he is balancing our team and trying to put a stamp on him as a dirty player is simply wrong. I know Landeskog is having some issues with Minnesota Wild in the NHL but that's another separate story... Landeskog will always play dirty vs the Wild. ;-)

This hit wouldn't even been a hearing in the NHL, most probably not. Yes, the powerful open ice hit was little bit late but still borderline and he wasn't penalized. Landeskog having played in North American since his junior days his style on the ice isn't very Swedish any longer, personally I think he has played a smart game so far.

Landeskog is all class and even texted the American player after the game, asking him how he felt, being sorry for being little bit late in the hit etc.

Debuting in SEL as a 16 year old, captain for Stockholm in TV-pucken, captain for Swedish national teams in juniors, captain in OHL and a captain in NHL (youngest NHL captain ever at the time), totally fluent in English (close to 100%), socially skilled and a born leader. Hopefully Landeskog will show what he is made of in this WC finally gaining some respect from the Swedish people.

Grönborg may try to use Landeskog as another Holmström but Landeskog is way more than that.

;-) sorry, you are absolutely right and really like how Joel plays.

It's a total mystery for me he didn't succeed in the NHL.

Joel Lundqvist has had a good tournament except against russia which was expected he never has good games against russia for some reason probably due to the tempo.

Lundqvist didn't give a definitive no to Sportbladet when they asked him this morning at least.

Maybe it could happen?
I think there are good chances he joins the team, when his brother is captain, the blueline is stacked and they play in Germany/ France. With Lundqvist in net, this team can win it all. An enormous upgrade from Fasth and Läck.

Lundqvist might not be the best goalie in the world any longer, but he is still one of the best.

You left out maybe the best reason, has no WCH gold medal.

Gotta be one of the last chances, and he only needs to play 4-5 games.

I really hope Grönborg will invite Fast, Pääjärvi and Lindberg....this is a worst case scenario....but honestly, all 3 of them would bring something, they could form a line together and bring some nice hustle and underrated skills.....W.Karlsson, Nordström and C.Klingberg is zombies......for sure Fast, Pääjärvi and Lindberg would bring more....we need new energy....

Pääjärvi is no upgrade.
