I must say i like this team a lot. To bad Zaitev and Zhadrov is hurt but i like this team..Russia has a litle generation change going on
Hope to see Kaprizov get som ice time..i love him.

I do not want Ovi to join this team. I take Orlov and Kutneskov and Tarasenkov and of course Malkin but Ovi no tough i love him i dont think he is what this team need

We are going for Gold:!!!

Not so fast, pal! :)

But with Crosby injured there is even a chance Malkin will be available instead of the WSH crew. That makes our D worse without Orlov, but having Malkin alone(if he actually agrees to join) would be a huge boost.

Still, we won't have the best roster in the tournament I think. Our D again will be very suspect. The only surprise is it will be really due to injuries and availability and not because we don't have ANY d-men.

Plotnikov has skills, size and grit. He is far from garbage.

Actually, I understand the reasoning behind putting him with Mozyakin. I think it could work.

Yeah, he just can't score like at all. And it will make the line garbage vs good teams. I mean Tkachev isn't that great goal scorer as well.

I don't want to see Ovechkin near the NT again. The stench of losing follows him everywhere. He is also slow now.

Of course he's beloved... by casual fans. As to hardcore and semi-hardcore, it's different.

Definately makes sense though still a little surprised to hear that, having seen quite a lot Russians defending him the past year or two (perhaps those are the casuals, who knows).

He always sucks when it matters the most... well, he was great in that series vs Pens in 2009, but that's probably it. And I don't remember a single important game for Team Russia, when you could say, Ovie won the game. Kinda inexcusable for a superstar. Soviet superstars were different and won so many tournaments for us. And Malkin won one of WHCs in the past. Ovie never did.

Don't listen. Those are the pissed ones I consider casuals that bash him. Like not willing to look into the fact that he played injured and stuff. Because of his status they expext him to score hattricks left and right. That's not understanding how it works.

Mozyakin is a scorer. Tkachyov can score. I expect him and Mozyakin scoring goals from each other's feeds a lot. If they stay together that is. The 3rd man being a grinder like Plotnikov is a thing to be looked at. Say Tarasenko is available it is problem solved to me.

The only players that i would take and would make sense are Kuznetsov, Malkin and Orlov (of course all wont be possible). Malkin or Kuznetsov instead of Namestnikov and Andronov.

OV is done. If WAS goes out Instead of creating line of Mozyakin-Kuznetsov-Kaprizov, the line that has incredible creativity potential he will come and be put with Kuznetsov and some other good player and he will just stink the whole line. Just thinking about me makes me sick.

He needs to go home, rest 3 weeks and then go on fat loss and conditioning program. He can easily loose 15 pounds of fat. He can try to reinvent his career, right now it doesnt look bright.

Kaprizov is probably a lot more talented and more fun to watch than some of these players and he'll get the short end of the stick because he's the youngest on the team. I was really looking forward to watching him play.

Russian coaches have become more Canadian than Canadians themselves nowadays. Canadian national teams don't usually have grinders, and we do.

Torino 2006 vs Canada ;)

Canada always has grinders. The difference is their grinders also come with skills, while our grinders are wood.

Curious to know if that's the general feeling in Russia now? One would think he is still beloved by most Russians.

I think he is loved as a battler, and he is still arguably the best goal scorer in hockey. However, he has bulked up to the point that he has lost his explosive speed and power in driving to the net, and he is almost limited exclusively to the one-timer from the left side of the ice. That limits him to being dependent on someone to feed him the one-timers, and that hasn't happened lately on the large ice.

Skillful grinders aren't grinders. I mean, Makarov had more grittness in his left foot, than Ovie + Kuzya have altogether in the whole, but it didn't make him a grinder.

Well that's the difference between Soviet teams of yesteryear and NT now.

They didn't need to take Telegin and Lyubimov types.

Ovie was a big part of the 2008 WHC win, and did his part in 2012 (albeit for only the medal round) and 2014.

But what will haunt Ovie's legacy is the fact that he has won nothing at the top-level of international play - best-on-best - while not getting the Caps past the second round (which looks to be the case again this year).

Equally upsetting for Ovie is the fact that he's come out on the losing end in big games vs Crosby every single time: 2005 Junior final, 2009 playoffs, 2010 Olympics, 2015 WHC final, 2016 playoffs, 2016 World Cup semifinal, and now down 3-1 again...

official roster (7D + 12F) - Zub and Barabanov in, Bereglazov, Lyubimov and Nichushkin are not

http://www.iihfworlds2017.com/en/teams/#RUS

Thank was just going to ask for the final roster
I saw Nichuskin against Sweden and was dissapointed...another Filatov ??
I tought some years ago he would be a superstar even Jagr said so..

To bad Kaprizov is left out but i understand he is young and will be back next year i have very high hopes for him.

Regarding Ovi if they take him i will start to cry..he is Heavy and slow ..there is not much left and his hockey IQ is and has never been high..last night against Pens was one of the worst games i have seen from him.
Dont get me wrong he is the best pure scorer and has been that for a long time and will go down as one of the best scorers in NHL ever...but its 2017 and he will not do anything for this Russian team

What will Our 4 line looks like ??
