I don't see how line Nichushkin-Kuznetsov-Barabanov(Plotnikov) can do any good. Incompatible combination.

I think Znarok hoped for Ovechkin-Kuznetsov pair, but I can't imagine what to do now to improve the game. Nichushkin is in bad form, but neither Tkachev nor Kuznetsov can play on the left wing. And it's too late to brake other lines.

On what position was invited Orlov? Or what's his role?
Belov-Antipin was good
Kiselevich-Gavrikov is OK
Provorov-Mironov was OK
Zub-Orlov isn't even funny

We changed all pairs, and we allowed 2nd goal vs USA as a result of misunderstanding between Provorov and Belov, 3rd goal - misunderstanding between Provorov and Zub. What was a plan with Orlov?

Winners of A1 vs B4 and B2 vs A3 play each other and B1 vs A4 and A2 vs B3 play each other.

A1 (US) vs B4 (Czech/Fins)
B2 (Switzerland) vs A3 (Sweden)

B1 (Canada) vs A4 (Germany/Latvia
A2 (Russia) vs B3 (Czech/Fins)

Yeah, you are right! Thanks!

Orlov brings nothing to this team. Undersized defenseman who is high risk and not very high reward - not worth it. This is the case that he is brought simply because he is from NHL.

What a bad game from Russia and the US goal number 2 and 3 ..what do you say that shall not happen
They lacked energy, sloppy passing, often going one on one , Dadynov looked pissed from the start you have to wonder if they had already lost this game before it started
No effort exept Telegin line.

Ok i am not going to start saying that Russia should not wait for second rounders from NHL and so on but boy the Caps players bought nothing with them and Kuzy with his stupid penalties.
The better get them self together and Znarok must limit some players ice time coming quarter not rolling and rolling all lines its like Russian trainers never top or try to do something different ..
Props again to Telegin line they are fun to watch
Lets forget this game and stay positive i think Russia will come out strong next game
If Kuzy is not stepping up let him sit i does not deserve the minutes..Znarok must be tough here
But Nickhuskin...why is he even here?? He is so bad.....sadly

So, should we play Sorokin vs Czechs ?

Vasilevsky has been average this year. He was excellent in junior hockey and in the NHL he has good stats. I think his invitation made sense, much more than Kuznetsov or Orlov who are banged out (who wouldn't be after such games) and unuseful.

I fear the same is valid for Provorov. His potential is of course sky-high, I won't deny that, but he is very prone to mistakes as today's game showed, I think he should have made the team, but with a lesser role.

Sorokin in net, Kaprizov instead of Nichushkin + replace Kuznetsov and make Plotnikov stop taking stupid penalties!

Yes and take out Namestnikov too, please. Mind blown how Kapirzov hasnt got a single game yet.

Namestnikov has actually been quite good - scored plenty of goals and has some assists. He has good speed, a good set of hands and a stellar vision of the ice.

Good news is that the mistakes are of typical Russian nature and are very fixable. After Russia takes the lead they relax and make sloppy mistakes.

Motivation has always been the biggest weakness and strength for most of these guys, all the way back to juniors. In a way it's good that we have a tougher road ahead, players have enough skill..now just need motivation.

Against the weeker teams maybe. A complete snowflake against the better teams. He is to easily pushed off the puck and doesnt have the skill to keep up on the top line. Even against the crap teams he was just a huge drag on the Kucherov Gusev line. Gusev instantly got much better when he was moved around. He cant carry the puck through traffic and his offensive IQ is nowhere near the other guys in the top 6.

Id even take Slepyshev 10x before I would even look at Namestnikov.

The lack of size really stood out against the USA. They simply locked our forwards out of the crease area, and then physically mauled the Russian defense in front of Vasilevsky. If we can get by the Czechs, the next opponent will be Canada. Russia can't get bigger, but they will have to find a way to get tougher and establish a presence around the net. There are no words to describe how badly Kuznetsov played, with Kucherov not far behind. Those guys will have to turn it around, and the rest of the team will have to be prepared to fight harder, if they are to wear any medal around their necks.

Kuznetsov should definitely wake up indeed, sometimes he is acting like NHL all star though, have not seen behavior like that even on Crosby.
Znarocks should wake up few persons especially in defense.

It was nice match anyway, but the real tournament will just start now and we will see how will young Russian`s play. Against Czechs.

I agree on the mistakes which should not happen it was very sloppy play by our deffence on goal number 2 and 3. They (deffence) have to play like they have done earlier in the tournament which i think has been good and a positive signs from a younger Russian team. I was really devestated watching this mistakes take place and it was a bad reminder of the past.. You have to wonder whats going on mentally with the players..Even if Russia as a team had a bad day we should have won this game.
Of course taking a LOT of stupid penalties did not help and you dont win games playing with 4 guys.
Russia lost because of Russia (not the first time we see this...)

I truly hope that Znarok goes down to 3 lines tomorow ( i dont really know where to put Kuzy but if his play is like yesterday dont use him this team had great chemestry and even if our contenders were weaker you could feel the good vibe in this team where everyone worked hard as a team.

On the goalie situation i think Vasi will get the start but we have a very good number 2 so i live that to Znarok.

My allergi is killing me this time of the year so i cant take a loss tomorow it will be to much so GO Russia god dammit Panarin and Kucherov and Kuzi better show som leadership.

You obviously have no idea about Orlov or his game.

Or with a bigger role. One bad game is nothing to whine about. Orlov needs time to adjust just like Kuznetsov. Provorov is still great after having the worst game of the tournament.

How is nobody talking about Znarok's mancrush Zub? Without him we might have won the USA game.

No. Vasilevsy is doing good. And you don't crush the confidence of your starter after you selected him. We have 3 equal goaltenders on the roster. It's the national team. And Znarok for all my dislike is still head coach and he chose a starter. And this starter is playing more than well.

Provorov makes adjustments to his game. He is not error-free, but he learns from mistakes.

Unlike Orlov with whom it's groundhog day every time.

Vasilevsky has showed to me no ability to win the biggest games. I am of opinion that he actually let Tanmpa down by allowing to many weak goals in the stretch of the last 10 games of the season. Remembering his collapse against Canada in juniors where he was replaced you can see that Vasilevsky may fail under too much pressure. I am pretty sure that he will get the start but he should be on a very short leash.

Well, it happened once, actually. But in 2012 he got >40 shots and allowed 5 of them, it's not good right, but remember canadian goalies got 10-12 shots each and allowed 6 goals in the total. In 2014 he played perfect in the game for 3 place with Canada, where he allowed only one goal.
