Great performance in the quarters, probably the best of a swiss team for quite sometime. I'll do a review of the players perfomance in the coming days, maybe some would like to join. Now I'll get some sleep. :)

Was a good game by the Swiss against the US.

Still wondering about this pattern of being dominated at the beginning of the game.

taking 2 or 3 goals and chasing up !!
strange ! specially that this pattern has taken place several times, except agains the Czechs who actually pressed like hell in the first period. So even their, it took place.

I was thinking the same. But was too tired to write. It's seldom that I get so little sleep the night before the first day of a working-week... Felt a bit inconvenient getting up this morning.

Thrillers like yesterday's are the reason, I pretty much like the U20 WHC better then anyother sports events. Quality, enthiusiasm, drama all there.

I will try to help finding a consent for a player review, hopefully today.
Some words about expectations for next year would be nice to hear too from the community in here.

Good recovery to everybody after long night.

Im still a bit baffled by last nights performance.

I knew before the tournament, that the competition will be weaker than in other years, with so much worldclass talent absent. And that the 97ers offers good toptalent in Goal, D and O. Plus some more depth on attack. Results were always respectable, plus Hischier. Though on paper not as good as the 2 last teams, but nevertheless a good opportunity to go deep.

Was a bit concerned after the CZE game. It looked like they would play a collapsing system, underplaying the individual talent a bit a la Krueger. But the Czechs were really strong individually and probably forced them to play like this. I did underestimate them a bit to be honest.

Against Sweden, I wasn't expecting much (as usually against the Swedes:)) Thought they played much better than in the first match. They weren't as overhelmed by the skill and pace as the day before. Still were dominated, but could accept it in a smarter way. Apart from the result, it was a step forward.

Against Denmark, who came in on fire, but with tired legs, a horror start, with a little hope that 3rd Period could be a gamechange regarding fatigue. An early setback in the second, some doubts. However, at the end of the 3rd, you sit there and can't help but thinking: they should have finished yet. Another wasted opportunity. The relegation games were dangerously close. Thanks to Miranda they weren't. A win, which showed, they keep cool, and stay together as a team under pressure. A huge moral boost.

Against Finland they played the perfect match IMO. All 4 Lines played, and they found the right balance between staying in game shape by giving it a good effort and not wasting too much energy, or putting yourself in a vulnerable position. And if Wohlwend really wanted to win as badly, as he was telling the media, Im not so sure. Zehnder probably would have played, and it may just was a good opportunity, to heat the team up for the quarters. I mean, if Russia, USA or Canada...Main thing Italy, isn't it?:D

And then came the Quarters. I had hope, but I never thought, they would be capable of pulling off such a show. From the first drop of the puck, they were willing to match any pace or intensity the USA would offer. And somehow I think the calamities of the first period helped adding a pinch of anger to the determination. And with the Americans still standing high and forechecking, but with a few percents less commitment, and offering some holes to skate in, everything was set for a memorable 2nd Period.... Somehow it reminds me of the Game, the Swiss Senior team played against the USA, coincidentally, in the Semifinals at WHC 2013.
The goal by the US quickly after the equalizer was brutal. And even if the Swiss have lost half a step afterwards and couldn't maintain the same pressure, they kept fighting and nearly came back. Astonishing!

In the end, it's a loss. A brutal loss, that hurts. But I think, and hope in the midterm it will help some of them realizing how good they acctually can be. A level above, but a similar situation in the dynamics was the "match of all matches" between Stan and Nole at the AO 2013. a devastating loss after a huge performance, and we know what happened then...

Anyway, thanks Boys for some nailbitingly close games and heart out commitment!
