Could Rasmus Dahlin make this team? He's a double underager but already playing well in the SEL and obviously a special player. I mean who's really better than him?

He should have a shot. Probably the only two defensemen you can say will definitely be on the team are Jacob Larsson and Gabriel Carlsson. David Bernhardt has played a lot internationally this year and they seem to like him. Jesper Lindgren is having a good season in Modo and shoots right-handed, which might be in his favour. It's hard to know where Montén stands on the North American kids, Kylington, Moverare and Bouramman. I wouldn't be surprised if all three made it, or they might all be left off. Lucas Carlsson and Filip Berglund weren't picked for the 4-Nations tournament, but Erik Brännström was. I count eight serious contenders, including Brännström, to which we should probably add Dahlin for nine. Which two will be out?

If my memory serves me right they will play a couple of pre-WJC games before making the final cuts.

Larsson & Carlsson are, as you say, the only obvious locks.

Brännström looked very good at the U20 tournament that was played recently but it was against european competition on big ice which obviously suits his game extremely well. I'm fairly sure he will be invited to the pre tournament camp.

Dahlin can be used in so many ways. I'd be dissapointed if he wasn't invited, but I think he will be.

Bouramman is having a really bad season (based only on his stats). Looked great in the summer tournament so I think he will be given at least a look.

Kylington is the real joker IMO, he could make the team and have a huge impact or be completely left off. Something hasn't been right in the past, we'll see what Montén thinks.

Moverare could probably use another year of development before making the WJC team. The 98 group of D looks extremely weak, don't think anyone of them will make it.

Yes, the pre-WJC games will be played after the preliminary roster is picked. I think that's usually 3 goaltenders, 8 defensemen and 15 forwards. I have to say, I've always liked Moverare. His major weakness is his acceleration, but perhaps on North American ice that would be less of an issue. After Larsson and Carlsson, who is the third best d-man defensively? Also, speaking to people who follow the OHL, he seems to have played at least part of the season on the right side. Not many natural righties among the other candidates.

Filip Ahl is dominating. It would be foolish to leave him off the team.

A big strong goalscorer is always intresting. But you never know with swedish coaches, maybe they take Lööke instead just because he has been a part of the team longer.

Do you think Lucas Carlsson has a shot of making the team? He's been playing good so far in Brynäs, abit of the sophomore slump but he is really skilled, fast on his skates and a good shot.

He should have, but he wasn't picked for either of the last two tournaments. I've always been impressed when I've watched him play. Liljegren is back playing as well. If he finds a bit of form he'll be a possibility too.

I don't know if this is the case but Brynäs has had both Sundqvist and Fälth injured and had the dialog with Swehockey to let Carlsson stay and play SHL games instead.

That would make sense. It seems odd that he shouldn't be given a chance otherwise. Only Jacob Larsson (in four games) is averaging more ice time in SHL of eligible defensemen.

Sweden just got their 1st line center to the WJC. Will make team Sweden much better. Could be the best player in the tournament.

Uffe Bodin seems to think Linus Högberg has a good shot at making this team. It's a name I haven't seen being discussed in this thread much. Definitely some real competition on the blueline this year.

What about:

Larsson-G Carlsson
L Carlsson-Lindgren
Högberg-Kylington
Dahlin

That would be a pretty experienced defense with all of these guys playing against men. Only one right-handed D though. Personally I would probably put Bouramman in there, but his numbers in OHL doesn't look great this year but I don't know if that really matters, I feel like guys with average seasons often look good in WJC and vice versa.

Is there any chance that Dahlin, Liljegren and Brannstrom all make the team?

No offense to Swedes or fans of teams with other players, but I don't really care to watch the others play. I want to see the prospects for upcoming NHL drafts.

If not all three, could two of the three make the team?

All 3? Probably like 5% chance of that, 2 of them maybe 30% chance, 1 maybe 60%.

Carl Johan Lerby is amazing. Would look good on this team.

He's been great since he returned from his Allsvenskan loan. But he's never played internationally and he's a smallish, left-shooting defenseman. Among those, Kylington, Brännström, Lucas Carlsson and Högberg might all be ahead of him. If Dahlin is a serious consideration, he might be too.

Liljegren is back and playing a lot of minutes. I think he's looked good in the games I've seen, minus the odd horrendous giveaway, which is par for the course with him. If you take him, you'll just have to hope the good outweighs the bad.

Does this mean none of Dahlin, Brännström or Liljegren made the WJC roster?
