so looking at the current team, it looks like our strength is in net and on defense, but aside from Kaprizov, Guryanov and Korostelev, our attack will have trouble. am I correct in this?

Polunin can really produce and has a nice offensive skill-set. He should be able to excel against players his age.

Vorobyov is a pretty good set-up man who has done a good job against his age group in internationals in the past.

Yurtaikin, Alexeyev and Rubtsov if a line could surprise... Yurtaikin can score, Alexeyev is a solid player who is very familiar with him (being from same team and playing together so much) and Rubtsov is ofc very talented... against younger players where strength is not so big an issue he should show more than in KHL ofc.

I think Russia's goaltending and defense will be among the best at the tournament. If the top line plays incredibly well or there is some surprise offensive production from the other lines, Russia could win.

Abramov wasn't invited to camp, Trenin will participate in a CHL/AHL Russian player evaluation camp of sorts soon I believe.

Wow Abramov seems like the kind of guy who could light up this tourney on the PP

Possibly , Bragin likes older players though and players with mens league experience and Abramov is a 98 who was average in the Canada-Russia challenge. Also, there is a limited number of spots for small players. 97s Polunin, Tyanulin ( possibly ) and Kaprizov seem to have those spots occupied.

This. Bragin likes using 19 year olds in this tournament. It works for him, he can motivate those guys and get the best out of them. You have to be a rare player to play as a 17 or 18 year old (i.e. Provorov).

Bragin gets the most out of his players, using mostly 19 year olds has been successful for him. I'd say he's probably the best coach in the tournament given his track record and style of coaching. I have a lot of respect for Bragin.

There is enough scoring here on paper. They just have to do it.

Kaprizov - Vorobiev - Polunin
Tyanullin - Alexeev - Rubtsov
Guryanov - Trenin - Korostelev

These are the possible scoring lines. Will they catch fire?

Is Yurtaikin still expected to make the final team too? The kid can play as well... I thought he would be with club-mate Alexeev but they seem to be going away from that.

Having a guy like that on the 4th line would shows a pretty deep team.

A few of us are speculating that the odds are against Yurtaikin due to poor play and being removed from the Alexeev line.

And this is where it would have been wise to give Abramov and Smirnov another look, especially Smirnov who is tearing apart the NCAA.

Abramov/Smirnov>>>Tyanulin

Weren't Tyanulin and Korostelev the best Russian 97s couple year ago? Well I guess development isn't always linear.

I would hate to see Yurtaikin cut to make room for Tyanulin. That makes no sense that I can see.

I know he's just a kid, but what about Svechnikov the Younger?

Yeah, I understand that Bragin likes to go with 19 year olds, but maybe the Younger could add a spark.

Sort of.
He's a 'big game' coach, so obviously we can't question the end results. But Bragin's teams regularly play to the level of their competition. We will out-heart Canada but then look like dog**** against the Czechs or Danes or whoever.

The Danes just have a fighting spirit against you. It happens, the Swiss give Canada trouble right from the Junior level to the Mens level.

If I'm playing for Gold, I want Bragin as my coach. I like him, and it's rare for me to be this complimentary, but I really believe in Bragin as a coach.

Russia always plays Canada with heart and soul. You guys play a Canadian style, fight with all you got attitude against us. I respect that. Bragin knows how to get his players to rise to the occasion. I love hockey, and I know the history of our game. I always want Canada v Russia playing with everything on the line. We are the hockey superpowers.

I don't know about Smirnov, but Tyanulin is stronger on his skates than Abramov now.

Abramov will get his shot next year.

I would have given him an invite, but he's 16... Next year

Very young. That would be Bure style for you guys (3 WJC appearances off the top of my head if I'm correct).

Svechnikov the Younger is a special talent. Off the top of my head, Canada has had Bouwmeester, Spezza, Crosby, McDavid play as 16 year olds in recent history.

Doesn't seem like Bragin's style to bring a kid that young. You never know though, having a 16 year old prodigy on the team could be a rallying point. I know Russia won't do it, but the Youngers performance at the WJC-A tournament has raised some eyebrows.

Abramov was named the #1 star of the week in the QMJHL. 11 (6+5) points, +7 in 3 games. He was also named the first star in all 3 games.
