Don't know what to think about Samsonov's performance. I like when goalie stay in net and catches all he can. Vasilevsky was solid. Samsonov jumps far from net, e.g. first goal vs USA, or his save vs canada in the third. Strome's 1st "empty net" goal during PP. He didn't move. Strange jump from side to side during 2nd PP goal by Strome. Don't know what to think. Surely Sukhachev is not better.

Samsonov MUST get more help from the defence. Or everything just ends in QF.

Zborovsky and Sergachev looks awful IMHO.

Bragin teams are what they are. They can outrun opponents, outhit, outendure, outanything, but outplay. I mean good opponents, not teams like Latvia.

Russia - Sweden - USA - Finland - Canada - Finland...

It's been long coming but come it will not even this time, it seems.

And Russia keeps underperforming and looking for itself on the ice.

I wouldn't jump to conclusion that this tourney is lost for them.. They do have some potential, and unlike some other teams Bragin always conditions the players to peak around semis.. They aren't on their peak yet, pretty sure about that

I think at lot of us worry that this 'peak' would be noticeably lower Than the other years.

Just curious, but how do you guys think Samsonov ranks against Sorokin and Shestyorkin?

In order to have success, Samsonov had to be excellent in goal. He hasn't been excellent, and if his performance doesn't start to pick up, stock in his future will plummet.

I think you identified the big issues so far. Samsonov, Sergachyov and Zborovsky have failed to match pre-tournament expectations. Goaltending and improved defense were supposed to compensate for lack of productivity among the forwards. They have 2 games to turn it around to get a medal.

If not Samsonov, it'd be more like 6-2, than 3-2 in American's favour.

Samsonov made that one amazing sprawling save. But he also gave up a terrible goal in which he played the puck poorly into the corner and got caught out of position.

He wasn't perfect. And considering that Russia badly outshot the US in the final two periods I don't get this talk.

Less polished, but he is also younger so...

I would say, in terms of prospect value, it's pretty close between them.

Well, I was talking more in terms of overall talent, ceiling, etc.

He has been good, but not good enough. Russia needs a Vasilevsky type to win against the top teams. Great saves that are offset by weak goals don't help much. He hasn't had much support in front of him, but he is out of position so often that he can't get back in time to save pucks that otherwise should be saved. He needs a consistent effort like he had against the US last year in the Semifinals.

Hope we'll lose to Denmark, I'm tired of Bragin hockey. But of course we'll win another medals, and he stays.

Why exactly are you tired of his 'winning' hockey? All the typical shortfalls are the result of Russian hockey school system, Bragin is actually quiet flexible in style of play, for example this tourney how game plan is much simpler of just get in on net, compared to 2012 when it was very combinational hockey with good playmakers.

Kaprizov and Trenin have been the two most dangerous forwards. I questioned Trenin's inclusion on the team - I can't believe how wrong I was!

Back to Soviet times nobody cared whether the kid was big or small, could he play 1st, 2nd or 4th line role and other ****. They just took the most skillful, and it way more often worked, than didn't. Our teams not just usually beat opponents, but did it with a style. Now even if we win, we do it in such a sloppy manner, that I prefer to find out the score later, than to watch the game.
