Mikhail Vorobyov.

They both play for Salavat and he has spent some of the season on his wing, maybe 40% at 5v5.

Also they have played together internationally for the last year.

Vorobyov is not flashy, or that high skilled. But he is defensively sound, a big body and is a pretty good playmaker.

Thank you good sir! As long as he gets PP time with him too ill be happy

Lines from today's practice:

Rykov-Sidorov; Polunin-Vorobyov-Kaprizov
Sergachyov-Zborovskiy; Karnaukhov-Kvartalnov-Guryanov
Voronkov-Volkov; Yurtaikin-Alexeyev-Rubtsov
Dronov-Kudako; Trenin-Belyayev-Urakov

On one hand this team is not very exciting and seems like there isn't enough talent to overcome difficult situations. On the other hand the defense seems deep and the team should be well balanced, maybe even better than a lot of the past teams.

The most worrying thing that I've seen so far is that they don't have enough character or skill when things start to go wrong. On other teams there would be atleast 1 or 2 more guys like kaprizov and polunin

2011 team was very unbalanced but had a few more game breakers that made the difference

Good points! When you have Tarasenko, Kuznetsov and Panarin, a lot of other weaknesses can be patched over. The question is can Polunin and Kaprizov carry the team on their backs when needed?

Guryanov will need to step up. Big guy with skills and a brief reputation as a blue chip prospect.

He could easily relieve the pressure for the Kaprizov line by providing much-needed secondary scoring. He is, after all, an AHLer and has been playing productively as of late.

This tournament alone could be very important for Guryanov's future. Does he play a monster game when called upon to do so, or just finish out his shifts?

Why do you think he is 1st goalie off the bench? Before it seemed like everyone thought it was easily Krasotkin.

He played the pre-tournament game Vs Denmark and since, imo, he looked better at Can/Rus Series, I'd expect him to be the backup.

You could say that about any player. As of right now Serg is the best D on that roster and its not particularly close.

The other 3 in the top 4 are all really good. He's the best, but it is close. This isn't McDavid compared to a junior player. Thats what not close is. Sergachyov is a top 5 defenseman at the tournament, but Russia might have 3 other top 10-15 defenseman at the tournament.

Sergachyov has the most potential on that d-core, by far; but that doesnt mean he's the outright best player at the moment.

I haven't seen him play in the CHL, but in international tournaments he has been absolutely nothing above average. No real accomplishments or brilliant showings, and he is very slow with the puck. He tries to make fancy plays like back passes that tend to blow up in his face. He often shows a lot of unforced turnovers. He is the most careless and turnover-prone defenseman on the roster, and its not particularly close.

Why? Because of the NHL draft? Kaprizov was drafted in the 5th round. He is the captain and undoubtedly this teams best offensive asset at this point. Guryanov is a 1st rounder who is a dark horse now. Everybody hopes for a great performance for him in Russia. Make no mistake about that. Same goes for Sergachev. But judging players by their north american scouts reception is not the way to go if you look at how bad NHL scouts are with Russians.

I would not be surprised in the slightest if Sidorov outplays Sergachev on the top pairing, playing a lot with the top line and on the 1PP unit. Rykov - Sidorov is going to be quite a pairing in this tournament by projection.

Sergachev - Zborovskiy sounds amazing too. They need the forwards to convert on their play though. They must gel quickly and Guryanov needs to be the weapon up front.

Btw. Kvartalnov is an underrated center at the moment I think. He did look good in the Russia-Canada-Series.

Trenin? Jesus.

This here is the one thing I don't like about Bragin. He doesn't really have PP units. He'll just stick an already existing line in there. This time with Trenin in it.

But at least he will win the faceoffs.

Agreed. And I wouldn't be surprised if Russia's best blueline performer is Rykov. Sergachev isn't even on the first PP unit, as we now know.

Judging by the game Vs. Sweden, Trenin will be the big net front presence guy.

Polunin didn't look good, I still would like to see a first line of Kaprizov-Vorobyov-Guryanov.
