I gotta think Provorov will be playing for Philadelphia in the NHL next year but I guess you never know.

It will be much more skillful and much better (on paper) team.

Especially many of those talented 98-born kids and some quality 97 guys will be noticeably stronger (I hope so) since now.

Great big offensive wingers with a shot, speed, hands and size like a Sokolov, Guryanov, Popugayev (big-bodied one). Some small but very talented and creative playmaking wingers like an Abramov, Kaprizov, Polunin. Amazing gritty and 2-way effort from the middle. Rubtsov has potential to be #1 center on this team. He has it all: superb speed, topnotch two-way ability, great playmaking skills, good vision and IQ, nice shot, strong body, excellent at the dot. Defence at this point looks like a bit better than 2016 edition (yet again on paper). If Provorov is not on Flyers roster next year his pair with Sergachyov (I really hope they'll play together) will be something special. Rykov - Voronkov pair has been very good and solid. I expect even more confident performance from them next year. Goaltending will be good too. Samsonov (if everything is ok) will be our 1st goalie he was supposed to be at the past tournament. All in all good team with no holes and plugs, worthy (ON PAPER again) to be top-3 team in 2017 wjc.

I agree with enj92, I like the make-up of next years team.

Not sure about Sokolov at the moment, he has a lot to prove. Some other candidates: Mityakin, Ivashov, Krikunenko, the smaller Popugayev (if he recovers from injury ok), Bochkaryov, Kudako, maybe Bannikov. Maybe that small Babenko kid from the CHL.

Our 1998 year olds are generally talked as the best year since the 1980s, so I expect a lot.

I'm not so sure but I thought he's playing for very poor OHL team, which can create pretty much nothing in O zone. And he's a leader of Sudbury's weak offense. I'm almost sure that if only he play for let us say London his numbers would be doubled at the minimum. I'm not so sure about his NHL career and in general adult career (Peter25 influence), but that guy should be in the NT roster next two years. Especially if he can work on his body and speed (skating overall). His hands and A SHOT... You just cant ignore such great skills.

Also about next year russian roster: you cant write off guys like Korostelev and Artyomov. I guess Bragin will give them a chance. :)

Some updated projections would be appreciated if any Russian posters would be so kind.

It's kind of hard to make any projections with so much time left actually.

If Guryanov will be available, then the first line will probably consist of Kaprizov-Vorobyov-Guryanov.

Trenin, Polunin, Rubtsov and, imo, Chebykin are at least very close to securing roster spots. Yaroslavl line of Yurtaikin-Alexeyev-Krikunenko looked interesting at the Black Sea Cup, but definitely should undergo some SuperSeries testing.

At D, with Provorov likely unavailable, Rykov is expected to be the top guy with Sidorov or Zborovskiy as RD. Voronkov and Sergachyov should be on the team too.

At GK Samsonov+Krasotkin are almost set in stone for the top GK roles.

I agree with Caser that the best bets at forward is the trio of '97-borns in Kaprizov (W), Vorobiev (C) and Guryanov (W). They could be on the same line.

After that I expect the following centers to be in contention for the roster: Rubtsov, Zhukenov, Trenin, Alexeev.

And the following wingers: Abramov, Polunin, Chebykin, Mityakin, Yurtaikin. Other contenders being Belyaev, Maltsev, Krikunenko. And wildcards like Popugaev, Kayumov and Sokolov.

The obvious picks on defense would be: Sergachev, Sidorov, Rykov, Voronkov. Strong contenders would be Kudako, Artem Volkov, Shchemerov, Bannikov, Zborovsky; maybe Chmykhov and Makeev. Minulin is a wildcard.

The goalie situation might be anticlimactic. Samsonov and Krasotkin are the most deserving.

If WJC was today, I'd go with

Kaprizov - Vorobyov - Guryanov
Polunin - Rubtsov - Mityakin
Abramov - Trenin - Chebykin
Yurtaikin - Alexeyev - Krikunenko

Provorov - Rykov
Sergachyov - Voronkov
Sidorov - Volkov
Bannikov - Zborovsky

Samsonov
Krasotkin
Berdin

Belyayev is mostly playing center though.

Yeah, although he or another guy might get shifted to the wing. There is a good depth of centers here.

Do Bobylov or Chebykin have a chance?

Bragin will make his decisions based on the tournaments to come. He values will and determination under pressure over pure skill and fancy star attitudes. If the guys show that they all have a chance.

Kaprizov-Rubtsov-Guryanov
Polunin-Vorobyov-Mityakin
Abramov-Zhukenov-Kostin
Chebykin-Trenin-Bobylov

Provorov-Rykov
Sergachyov-Zborovskiy
Voronkov-Sidorov
Kudako-Shchemerov

Samsonov
Krasotkin
Sukhachyov

Kaprizov and Vorobyov play on the same line in the KHL, no chances they will be separated at WJC.

Provorov will play in the NHL, so the 1st pair is probably Sergachev - Rykov. And don't forget about Timur Fatkullin.

Polunin, Rubtsov and Kostin will probably play on the same line, because it's a very Bragin line with two big and skillful 2-way guys and small, fast and creative puck magician.

Sokolov looks great in the first CHL games, so he will definitely be tested at the Superseries.

There are so many good forwards eligible to play at WJC 2017, that it's almost impossible to predict bottom 6. Russian hockey program has at last started to work. It's not a Canadian level of depth of course, but I think we could probably send two teams to the tournament, and both won't suck.
