Even Jortikka and Helminen would've been better. This has gotta be one of the worst coached teams in history. Absolutely none of the things Rautakorpi did make any sense.

These guys need to walk home, everyone in the management need to get fired.

What a farce.

No heart
No passion
No skill
No high-end scoring threat
No solid 1st line center
No solid staring goalie
No stay at home defenceman
No pride
No honor
No effort
No powerplay scoring threat.

This team isn't nothing and this team doesn't have nothing.
This team supposed to have 5 potential 1st rounders for next summers NHL draft but somehow i don't see those potential 1st rounders nowhere.

Hopefully this was last time when we see Jukka Rautakorpi and Rauli Urama behind team Finland bench in any age group.
Finnish Hockey association must suspend those two for coaching Finland's top juniors for rest of their careers

I don't get how the hell Urama has become assistant coach of Finland's U20 team
He's not ever been solid liiga coach and he hasn't won any championship titles also he hasn't no clue how to develop and coach NHL draft eligible prospects.

Hopefully Harri Nummela and Matti Nurminen has [MOD] to fire him of his job in Finnish Hockey association.
Urama is lousiest ''huippu-urheilujohtaja'' in entire history of Finnish hockey.

I can't watch this ******** any further i'm done. ****ing Happy new year to everyone

He is a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb whom to project your hatred. A professional, veteran coach.

What kind of logic said that Jukka Jalonen's meidän peli would take World Championship titles in 2011 and 2016, after the 6-1 loss in Vancouver if you did not see beyond the outcome. Jalonen should not have been clearly allowed to coach Finland anymore after that Vancouver disaster.

It is obvious that the coaches does not know how to play hockey on small ice. Finland is always starting the offensive from behind of the own goal instead of trying to play with flying attacks. Defenders are keeping the puck way too long. The lack in depth slows down the team which makes defending against Finland a very simple thing. The coaches should have a look at NHL how the game changes when you go to small ice. More plays in the depth...and much faster. The old finnish trap hockey DOES NOT WORK on small ice. Time to realise it after this tournament and also the same failure in the WC.

One important thing is that these "disasters" always happen at North America, in smaller rink, where "meidän peli", or any other solution before, won't work.

So far, it looks like it works only in European rinks.

Not exactly. The previous relegation tour in 2013 happened in Russia.

And a year before that, Raipe took us to the semis in the small rink. Of course, said tournament wasn't anything to write home about either, but anyway.

Look at the results so far this year on small ice. I think it is 0-9 in wins vs. losses. Take a look at the scoring sheet. It is even more murderous. :shakehead:shakehead

I wasn't arguing that this year hasn't been a disaster, simply pointing out that they don't solely happen in the small rink.

Though of this year's small ice games, we did win the final preliminary vs. Slovakia. So it's 1-8. Which is obviously not much better, no need to tell me that.

So why did they break the pp unit that scored on the 1st for 5on3 and why did the defensemen play wrong sides on that powerplay?

Probably they were drunk or taking acid. Who the **** knows. Hilarious and absurd gonzo coaching, fear and loath in Les Montreales. The Ironwoods guy was out to a trip. LOL

They put Saarijarvi and Nattinen both on that 5on3 unit, our ....ng worst shooters on the team and vets that have done absolutely nothing in this whole damm tourney.

Not scoring on that killed us.

Technically, it's nothing unusual to have a specialist 5-on-3 unit that's different from the regular PP setups. It's one you want to have out there as long as the situation lasts.

That's not to say you can't wonder about the players selected for this particular unit. In this case, I too would have just sent that Räsänen line out there.

I have seen worse 5 on 3's but I could not understand the need for the shot/pass high tips. You should be able to generate a better quality chance with 5 on 3 with this lower % play that is better suited to 5 on 4 when the PK unit is harder to breakdown.

It was poor and as one poster said, cost them the game.

Not a bad game from Finland against Sweden. Perhaps Finland should have been a little more desperate in the third, but they still came close a couple of times.

Biggest problem for you is that you cant afford to lose against a team like Denmark in a short tournament like this. But we'll see, said Danes seems to be on a role, they could defeat the Swiss.

I hear coach wants them to play agency hockey (virkamieskiekko). If true, fire the coach staff, let em play.

What an absolute pathetic load of garbage. It's just junior hockey and the kids are playing for their future, not for your pseudoanalytics. Happy new year kid.

in their defense, most of their opposition are guys that have already been drafted. Team Sweden didn't have many undrafted players at all.

Oh well, these things happen - you can't win every year... Literally.

Anyway, one modest wish would be that they would take the u20 team with bit more respect in the Federation and among the coaches. I know that it is more important for us to have the few top talents in every age group than succeed as a team but this is still an important tournament and important team. They just don't seem to get it.

Boy what a hangover season. Last season u20 and u18 golds and a World championship silver. This season World cup, EHT, WJC...

The players themselves are fine. The coaching is absolutely dreadful, though.

Technically, it's nothing unsual to lose a couple of ice hockey games in a row. Or to have some technically competent coaches behind the bench. Or to score only four goals in three games

But technically we are witnessing also the reality of facing the relegation round after the title last year. Technically it is also possible that Finland gets relegated. And technically it might turn into a real reality also, if things go really bad, I mean: technically.
