Quite something if true... I wonder what's going on there.

Two games two losses, one of which against the Danes, is going on there. The last chance to react and spell it out to the blind coach: "We are full of this **** system, mad as hell and we ain't gonna take it anymore."

Well, yeah, but I'm very surprised to see this in a Rautakorpi team - whatever else but he is not known for losing control of his teams, and Finnish national teams are not known for their rebellions (though occasionally there have been some). Quite interesting!

There's too much to translate in this but if you who can read Finnish and want some comedy here's some Rauli Urama bashing by Iltalehti. I found some parts of it pretty funny.

Yeah, I think that it's really a fact that this team tends often to get shafted by the Hockey Association - those dinosaurs don't really seem to get it at times. Though we have had recently also some high quality coaches but there is no long term stability and respect for the u20 team.

And, considering their merits speficically in the u20 context (Rautakorpi is actually a decent professional with many achievements in men's club hockey), this pair really is rather tragi-comic...

Yep. You have to respect Rautakorpi's merits in SM-Liiga but it was a true brainfart to put him and Urama in that position in U20. I guess it was Kummola's decision?

Yikes! A players only meeting... at the World Juniors! The last time this happened was...was... has this ever happened before?

I personally love this situation. Usually group stage matches are meaningless now is epic battle versus Sweden for relegation. Just win tonight and tournament back on track, no hätä

Respect for those players stepping up to coach when he can't figure the problem.

I guess I'm bit oldfashioned but I find these situations bit troubling - of course the players' frustration is totally understandable, but I wonder if this a wise course of action in such a short tournament. Though of course maybe it is if Rautakorpi takes it the right way and is constructive but that's not exactly his reputation of "my way or the highway".,,

Both Jortikka and Rautakorpi are highly accomplished Finnish head coaches. Even in the recent years Jortikka did fine work at the KHL and Rautakorpi transformed Tappara into perennial contender. U-20 WJC teams of both those coaches have rebelled right from the gates.

Does it say more about the coach or the players who have been strucken mad by the Northern American disease. Glory, glamour and gold is what the players seek for themselves but it is a ridiculous fiasco when young geezers, children who cannot likely even cook or do their laundry start telling some our most decorated head coaches how to play. Even if both Jortikka and Rautakorpi had at that pointed coached for more than twenty years... don't tell your father how to bonk.

The hyped are likely to side with the players. Finnish Ice Hockey Federation is our only hope in order to harden our players of future. I believe it is a nice personal experience to go into the coniferous forests to play school boy hockey but you have to know where to draw the line. National team should be pure, organized in clear command order and removed of outer influences. Now you have agents, scouts and media turning our players against the Finnish cause. While rebel may fly in these kinder garden tournaments and even brought Olympic bronze against elder Slovakia, I believe it is to quite necessary to aim for some amount of professionalism already in the youth teams if we want to sustain any hope of winning Olympic gold one day.

Assigning some Rauli Urama to "coach" or whatever this team and add Rautakorpo on the top of it or vice versa surely tells very "professional" story about your glorified Finnish Ice Hockey Federation, the womb or kindergarten of "meidaenpeli" and toddlers like Urama. lol

I so friggin' hate being right when calling out these coaching issues.

How isn't Rautakorpi seeing that his playbook is way too hard for under 20 year olds to learn, especially in a short tournament is beyond me.

Last time 2008-9 Rautakorpi was headcoach for U20 he save the team in relegation, maybe he go for gold this year ?

Bad news

Start praising Ahokas, he'll need a whole year worth of positive jinx.

Nevertheless, I still have trust in this team. The game against Denmark was full of good things and the total line shuffle could be just the right move to put every piece together.

Or not, here's hoping anyway.

Aapeli Räsänen should been in 2st line or even 1st with Tolvanen from beginning. Nättinen can you please do something at this game? If your 1 center then i expect little bit more than standing there like a ***** when there is game going

In a perverse way I'm almost hoping for a blowout and relegation. It is time for the federation to start respecting this tournament every year and not just every other year and only if a good coach just happens to be available. So maybe a relegation round would be a wakeup call. Yeah, that has happened before too, but back then no one expected anything from this tournament and media interest was so much lower. Rautakorpi/federation can't hide behind "player material" excuse.

Maybe feeling would be different if 2016 had not gone the way it went.

Line shuffles do help when there're chemistry issues between players, but they're not going to do much for fundamental coaching issues. Unless Rautakorpi has had some kind of epiphany, the minimum expectation now is salvaging the spot for next year.

And well, while that's not much of an expectation, I'm not going to say yet that we should be worried that they can't handle a best-of-three vs. Latvia.

Because you cannot see anything at fault with the players? We may have many idols to worship but they have began worshipping themselves, now coaching the team...

I do not believe this was the intention when they came up with junior games in the first place. Of course there is place for individualism in the game but there is time and place for all and these players have certainly had their fair share of freedom, playing in foreign hype factories exposed to the Northern American star cult, from a very vulnerable age on.

If Finland's newfound 'golden' generation's way is to part ways with the old guard, the amount of coaching talent we lose cannot be measured in any amount of WJC gold.

Material is a downgrade from 2016 obviously, but it is not that bad that the coaching should get an automatic get out of jail free card especially with the way they have played so far.

I don't even.

Jesus, man. What is THAT nonsense actually?!

I mean, TulipRedRose recycles a couple of notions and thesis on and on hoping them to turn "commercially succesful" goods. They include, at least:

1) "Our game" should be the Finnish system regardless of the international evolution of the game, the rink size, the competition or age group in question. Our game/Meidaen peli and nothing else. It is flawless and perfect for the so called "Finnish mentality" and talent pool ad infinitum.

2) The NA hockey and the related 'star cult' are cancers of the game, at least for the Finnish game and especially meaning "Our game" and especially especially our U18-U20 prospects which are the potential Finnish NHL players, even "star" players.

3) Related to the point 2, Finnish top prospects of the given age groups are most vulnerable to the NA sport star cult which turns them into non-substantial hot air and buzz in no time when exposed to the confusing cult and hype, that is, turn them into floating delusional megalomaniacs who have no realistic grip of their abilities and limitations or strengths and weaknesses as hockey players. Thus they start to "hype themselves" and also "coach themselves" and the whole team by the same token being unable to see the real big picture or state of affairs or history of Finnish hockey and give credit to the deep subtle wisdom of iconic holy cow coaches like some red head Jortikka (funny guy, no denying) or Rautakorpi (very serious guy with a 80s/Trump hair, no denying). So, they lose all the needed respect towards the experienced Finnish grand masters of the game thinking they know better just because of the star cult and hype North Americanese they have been exposed to in coniferous forests somewhere around Great lakes, in British Columbia and Quebec and New Brunswick. The star cult and hype are boosting their egos and confidence into astronomic measures, beyond realism. - This is the general underlying narrative that TulipRedRose repeats all over again and/or it comes through his obscure opportunistic arguments always put up ad hoc style to support hastily his given general stance.

4) Finnish Ice Hockey Association is the church of truth and one should not question its visions, wisdom or nominations/decisions ever. - Expect when it suits to one's agenda, I mean his (TulipRedRose's) agenda. Thus, in the World Cup fiasco they made serious mistakes and the coaching staff should have been replaced by some other men like him or something; at least the NHL vet assistants should have been removed. Yet, this time the association is portrayed as a flawless body of competence again and the coaches of Team Finland are thus carrying the flaming torches and truth of the Finnish game in their inscrutable "brilliance" approaching pure, absolute, blatant stupidity in the eyes of a layman.

5) The "Golden Age of Finnish hockey" is just an optical as if illusion caused by too a short "focal length" of the analysis in temporal terms. Our game is our game, or Team Finland's game, forever indeed. Always and everywhere. Since it suits to the Finnish - eh - game. And the player material is in its average prowess still the same and par with what it was earlier in the 90's and beyond.

6) What else? TulipRedRose sounds like a propagandist arguing to the given "truths" which are non-questionable dogmas he takes as given never questioning their validity and using whatever "argument" or fabricated narrative" to that effect in a very opportunistic ad hoc manner.
