I didn't expect such blowout but given the circumstances... whatever. It wasn't even an official WJC friendly. This loss holds little value to me, they need to come out strong the next game though.

The U19's also just beat Canada to make the semifinals

Canada West. So not the best that Canada ices at this level.

8-0 is worrying but I'll agree that it's probably jet-lag and getting used to the NA rink.

I realize that. But it's also our worst forward group in the last 5 years... it's only going to get better from here. But they also beat USA.
Czechs had their first practice that morning. I expected Canada to blow them out. Not by that much though lol. Let's judge them December 21st. If they lose big again. You gotta start questioning the coaching of Jakub Petr... This team is waaay to good and deep on paper to get blown out by anybody.
Just think about Finland in 2014. Gold medalists. You think their team was better then this one? If so, barely. They had 2 or 3 draft picks on offense... that's it.
How about Slovakia 2 years ago? Same thing. Bronze medal with a mediocre team.

So if Czechs fail miserably this year. We know the real problem. Petr will have to go. No excuses this year.

what a pressure. Petr is a good coach by the way. He is not Prerost after all...

Its quite early for this evaluation imo. Second thing is that its the second year where coaches bit push players to medal contender position, which is bit different than in past and therefore I guess game and attitude also differs... Needs to be add here that our top 6 offense - 3rd rounders at best? With that hyper talent that other countries produce, I guess being medal contender might be too much optimistic. Our guys would have to become selfconfident beasts and I am not sure thats a matter of national team coaches, this issue is still about development program imo.

I do not think we have made clear candidate for a medal. According to the names we have on our relationships we are a good team, but not better than other favorites. Let's wait for the tournament. With the possible ejection coach I was very careful. After Přerost this is a good coach, perhaps to prove it.

I don't want to offend anyone. I just every year try to make Czechoslovakian line up. So what do you think? How many Slovakian players are good enough to make Czech team this year? I see only Bondra, Čerňák and maybe Tomek (I still don't know where is Stezka).

You guys are missing the point... for example. Do you ever remember slovaks getting beat 8-0 by anyone? Maybe but like once? I don't even think so. Slovaks have rarely ever had a better team then us but about every 2nd year, for the last 10 years, they've outperformed Czechs. That does not come down to development of players. It comes down to coaching. Those guys have never had a better team then what we have this year. At least not for a veerrrry long time.

I also didn't like what Petr said last year after losing to USA. "It doesn't matter if we lose 8-0 or 4-2, a loss is a loss." I do not like this mentality. So it scares me a little going into this tournament.

It comes down to our depth. I think it's pretty darn good. I'm not saying we should win a medal necessarily but I am saying that we should be past the days of being blown out. Especially with the team we have.

I agree. Those 3 only imo

Lakatos is out... injury. :help::rant::cry:

Last year Vrana and Karabacek...this year Lakatos and Kase. Why can't we ever have a fully healthy team with no top player injuries...?
And yes, he got injured in that blowout loss against Canada. In hindsight, wish the game was never played, huge loss and top player injury. yikes.

EDIT: Maybe I am/was too high on Lakatos, but I truly think he would have been one of the best on the team.

Decent loss. Was curious to see how he would do. But I'm not too worried. There are guys who can fill that place in. Just sucks for his chances of being drafted though.

I was optimistic till Lakatos' injury. Our forward lines looks weak now.

Stransky-Chlapik-Suchy
Musil-Reiche-Spacek
Soustal-Necas-Koblizek
Pavlik-Kodytek/Andel-Jasek

Is Kase confirmed to be out?

No, but I don't think he will make it.

It's really shame neither 96 or 97 ever got to show their full potential... either Prerost (lol) or injuries.
Especially when you consider the strenght of 98, next year isn't looking to be anywhere as good as this year, so if we fail to pass the quaters again this year, we might have to wait till 2019 for a good team.

Speaking of Prerost, I saw him in some video about Czech academy system.... lol, how is he still allowed to do work in Czech hockey.:help:

That's not quite what they will look like imo..

Stransky-Musil-Spacek
Kase-Necas-Jasek

Andel-Reichel-Dufek

Still a good top 6. I wouldn't worry too much about Lakatis being gone. Yes it sucks, but think of Musil being his replacement(we weren't supposed to even get him). And I see Musil potentially being a better player tbh..
So nothing really changes imo. Still a good 3rd line. I really like what Soustal brings to the table.
Let's see how it goes I guess.

Lakatoš

Was last year one of the best players. A huge loss, one of the key players.
Well, I guess I will not, just look at the roster of others, are at least as good.

I agree with this. I don't think we should be losing to Canada 8-0 in any situation. And what Petr said last year was also very stupid. I'm just getting a little worried about him as well. But we need to give him a little longer to see what he can do.

I don't see what the fuss is about Lakatos. Alright, I haven't seen him since the last WJC but back then he didn't convince me he was such a great player that his loss would hit us hard. He's no Pastrnak or Zacha. Unlikely he gets drafted. Top player? Nah.

I'd be more upset if someone like Necas couldn't make it tbh.

Just saw your edit. Fair enough :)

Nobody is saying that this is a player in the first round draft pick. But it is currently by far the best player of the extra league has the most experience with male hockey. Now it is an elite striker champion Extraliga. He can not equal or Kaše, or Necas. That's hockey thinking, but he is young and is now physically much weaker. Therefore a huge weakening. Missing (about Zacha) Lakatos, maybe Kaše. It's almost like last year.

http://www.hokej.cz/kvaca-kvasnicka-reichel-kodytek-a-kurovsky-dvacitka-doplnila-kadr/5019787

Reichel, Kvasnicka, Kodytek, Kvaca and Kurovsky have been added from the U19.
No complainats here, I wanted Reichel, Kvasnicka and Kodytek from the beginning, Kvaca had pretty solid tournament too. Kurovsky is the only slightly surprising, but Petr knows him from Vitkovice and he seems like an ideal 4th line/13th forward with his big body.

Stransky - Spacek - Reichel
Kodytek - Chlapik - Musil
Koblizek - Necas - Jasek
Suchy - Soustal - Kurovsky

Zboril - Hronek
Hajek - Kalina
Budik - Vala
Kvasnicka

Vladar
Skarek
Kvaca

Imagine it with Kase and Lakatos :(

Is there any possibilities that we will see Zacha in WJC?

Unlikely

He's a first liner in a top Extraliga team. Being undrafted doesn't make him any worse, both him and Stransky are undrafted but I think we will all agree they are better prospects than Helt, who is drafted. Hell, even Reichel, Kurovsky or Kodytek are better. Yet it's Helt who got drafted... go figure.

THANK YOU! haha I thought I was the only one who didnt really like him. I also havent seen him this year so I cant say much, but ive seen him a few times before and theres nothing in his game that really jumps out. I feel like hes just average. Can his statistics just be good from being in the 1st line this year?

I also am more glad that Necas is there.. I think/hope he will be a game changer for us. I mean... hes pegged to go top 10 in the next draft...You would expect him to make an impact.
