Underwelming? I'm not so convinced about that... Just looking at that USA roster and I don't see a great chance for us lol. I think we have to win our group to make it past the quarters this year (As usual).
Then we could maybe win a medal.
Avoiding USA and Canada in the quarters is key to our success. Not that we couldn't beat them, but I really don't like our chances.

I agree. We must avoid the USA and Canada. Last year we played well against the Finns and the Russians well, we can beat these teams and it would not be a big surprise for me (although a favorite of the opponent), but then we play with the USA and we are as scalding. We can not and do not believe.
Gain any medal would be a huge success.

That US team could have had Matthews, Thachuk, Werenski, and Hanifin. They are a shadow of the team they could have put together. But it's not just them. There are good players missing across the board this year. More so even than usual. Now I'm not saying this Czech team would be the favourite going in to play the typical powerhouse nations, but I think the gap is smaller than usual. If the Czech team is looking to medal, this is a good year for them to step it up.

If that's true then I get what you're saying. Just on paper, its still a decent gap..
And yes, this is the best overall Czech team that ive ever seen at the juniors. (Been watching for 10 years). But I dont know if the offense will be good enough to get them anything...
Mind you, I seriously believe a few of them(czech forwards), are fairly underrated.
So I guess we will just have to wait and see :)
But yes, there might be more chance then usual for sure.

Still a chance we get Zacha from the devils.. That would be a good boost.

Agreed.

Will be pretty surprised if Zacha is loaned tbh.

Pretty good team. Forwards don't look so strong though.

I think the depth is very good, it's just that there's no difference maker. Maybe Lakatos, Spacek or Chlapik can take that role though.

Really? I dont even think he would make the swiss team lol

6'3 centre that's PPG in USHL? I admit I don't know much about the Swiss team, but I think he would make it.

Curious who will make it out of the U19. I am hoping for Kubik and Kvasnicka.

Maaaaybe. But my main point is that he doesn't belong in the Czech team. Absolutely no room for him.
I don't see kubik really making it. He's a great player but he's young. Who is he going to replace? Koblizek? Suchy? Doubt it. Necas is probably the only 1st year draft eligible that is good enough to make this team. Maybe kvasnicka

I am very happy with the selection. It is great group of players from our perspective. Hopefully Kase will be good to go. Zacha is a dream, obviously, but anything is possible. Excited to see Necas.

Gotta agree with this. I'm also hoping Kase makes it and very excited to see what Necas does!

Yeah, that's the thing. No Pastrnak, maybe no Zacha. Perhaps Necas can be the difference maker? He's a bit young though, but let's see. Not that convinced by Lakatos. Spacek hasn't been playing that well in Pardubice either and Chlapik someone said wasn't working hard enough.

Spacek's play in Pardubice is kidna irrelevant now, he is doing very well in WHL and at last year's WJC he was one of the top forwards on the team. Chlapik I am not sold on either, he was invisible last year, gotta hope he is better this year. (he has impressive stats though)
Lakatos was solid at last year's WJC and it seems he only got better since then. First liner in Liberec, one of the best Extraliga teams. He looked pretty good at the U20 tournament that was held in here in Czech Republic (the first U20 tournament of the season I believe) I have high expectations of him. (maybe way to high :))
Speaking of that specific U20 tournament... Hronek... I think some of you will be very pleasantly surprised, he's a PP beast, I fully expect him to be 1st pairing D and possibly the best D on the team. He's so good.

Whens the last time you've seen Spacek? Lol hes probably our best player. Made a name for himself last WJC and Button said he's a very underrated player. Love everything about his game. He also has much better stats this year compared to last year. I have high expectations of him more then anyone else. This is his 3rd WJC.

I agree with you there. He has never shined internationally. But you have to think if he ever does, its now.
Before this season, he NEVER weight lifted or trained. Had a bad diet etc...
This past off-season he has done the exact opposite of that and his stats are showing it. Most people that watch him regularly this year, have said that he stands out every game. Dominant on almost every shift.
So lets hope that he translates that to this WJC.

0:8. What is it?:help:

Pretty bad. But I wouldn't be too worried. They had their first practice this morning. And most of them will still be jet lagged. They looked tired and lost out there. I expect much better from them December 21st when they play Canada again. Should be a waaay tighter game. If not, then I'll start worrying. Mainly with coaching.

Maybe I'm late to the party but only saw now that Musil was named to the roster. Certainly interesting choice for him to play with Czech Republic after having represented Canada both at the U17's and the Hlinka Memorial. Smart choice, probably never going to be close to sniffing Team Canada in any international competition on a men's level in the future.

of course smart choice. We must appreciate his courage to try makes the Team Canada in past.

Lakatoš - Chlapík - Kaše (?)
Stránský - Musil - Špaček
Koblížek - Nečas - Pavlík
Šoustal - Reichel - Suchý
Werbik

Yeah and then beat the Americans the next day. Who I think are the favourites to win the tournament. So no worries at all

Well then guys :)
So I'll believe it was just a bad day which had affected those facts .. Even though the game and score doubts left. We are wiser after the next match:)
