You have always seemed to be really high on the kid, too bad he didn't get a look.

Disappointing. Bear is an excellent puck mover and he's a right shot (which we lack). Plus, the kid is tough and gives full effort every shift. He plays the Canadian way we know jj.

Is he incapable of that? Maybe he should have been left back then. I thought he was a hustle and bustle engine never stops guy. He can't play a fourth line role if asked?
He is an elite skating center with good puck handling ability and abilities to make plays off the rush. He could play it but its a waste of the talents he brings.

What?

I agree on elite skating, McLeod is a phenomenal skater but he's a poor puck handler relative to his peers. He's not a playmaker at all and often bobbles the puck.

He's not better at those things then the more-offensive guys on this team, so it's pretty much bottom six or bust for him.

It's not a waste of talent, because he'd be displacing more talent if he were given the bigger role. If he could play a bottom six role, it'd be nice.

Everything I have seen in training camp against pros suggest he is an excellent stickhandler for his speed, very few can look smooth at that speed (McDavid).

Don't get me wrong, his skating is absolutely elite. Phenomenal skater, but he's not a very good stick handler or playmaker. He can improve but relative to his elite peers, he's not what I would call a "good puck handler".

He's average in terms of puck handling, but his skating, work ethic and other skills will make him valuable to this team. But we shouldn't expect him to dangle or be an elite playmaker.

I've seen McLeod live a few times and he's always been the most visible, explosive player on the ice. More production would be nice though and probably help allay some of the valid concerns around his offensive game. He's in tough to make this roster IMO but certainly merits consideration in a bottom six / 13th forward role based on his skating, work ethic and what he brings to the table defensively. He'd be miscast in an offensive role, though.

No.

He just said the "O" and the "W". Come on, it's the Dub. How do you expose a newbie? That right there just exposed that these guys literally probably started watching hockey this year.

He's been saying weird things throughout the broadcast, to be honest.

I should have stayed with TSN

Switched over late. I guess it's better to complain about the announcers than harp on the players.

Who stood out to you? Barzal, Strome, Steel, McLeod, Fabbro all looked good to me.

I really liked what I saw out of Raddysh for first 35 minutes. How did he not go higher last year. Strome had his usual game where Im not a fan of his 5 on 5 play but below the hashmarks and on the PP he looks lethal.

Steel and Barzal showed excellent chemistry and should be kept together. After bashing Merkley he had a solid last 25 minutes to the game. He seems to do alot of his work at a slower pace.

Mcleod, other than being effective on faceoffs, looked out of sync. Didn't create much and went to the wrong spots without the puck in the offensive zone.

I said earlier we should build a bully. We don't have the skill to "out Euro" the European teams.

Have a mix of guys like Strome, Stephens, etc. and add some big 19 year olds who want to play nasty. Givani Smith would have been nice. Our midget size Q centric D isn't the way to go on NA ice.

Just so I'm clear, I'm not talking goons or dirty play. I'm talking the Canadian way with heart and soul types who give everything they have every shift relentless on the forecheck finishing every check and intimidating the opposition. Just flat out wanting it more.

Girard is the only small Q defenceman there. As for this type of player, they just aren't there anymore at a high level. I wouldn't be all that against taking a banger at forward for an energy role, but in recent years those players haven't paid off very much.

McCleod is making this team

Why? This guy has had a lot of posters pumping his tires for a while, but he doesn't do much to back them up. If Stephens stays at centre and McKenzie is right that Roy is a favourite, then McLeod is going to be in very tough to make the team. I don't see why he should be there right now.
