Say what you want about this year's team, they did one better than last year's team, and may do 2 better if they reach the gold medal game if they get past their semi final game.

Strome, someone who was drafted 3rd overall looks like he skates in Quick sand out there. He isn't gonna be anything better then a 3rd line player in the show. No head for the game, all he tries to do is shoot through traffic and it gets blocked everytime. His decision making is not good enough to excel at the next level.

His decision making and passing is actually quite good. I agree he hasn't been great this tournament but to say he doesn't have the head for the game is flat out wrong.

Both Goalies are below average. To win this tournament you cannot let in a weak goal at any point. its just too tight of a tourney with too many good players to not give you team a chance.

Both goalies are actually above average but neither has played that well in the couple game sample size they've shown.

Barzal is the only forward on this team with any real skill, he will be a player in the Show, the rest look like cookie cutter dump and chase players.

Plenty of them have "real skill"

Speers has been a mistake from day one, How do you take a player that never played any games over the leading scorer in the WHL (Steel). Heck, how do you take 9 other forwards over Steel. Major mistake.

While it's hard to argue that leaving the WHL leading scorer was a head scratcher, I'd say Speers has been pretty effective. Killed penalties well, been able to slot in different parts of the lineup. I'm not disappointed with him.

Ducharme with the quote of the day... too funny.

If his troops don't bail him out of this pickle tomorrow he's going to look like an idiot and earn a spot right up there with Spott and Lowry.

Because he made a quote that might hurt Swedens feelings? I mean who cares  Ducharme has done a far better job then Spott or Lowry(He actually has tried changing things when they aren't working). You are looking for problems where there aren't any.

Confirmed that Ducharme has been reading the thread for advice. Anyway, he's not wrong, as I and a few others have said. Interesting strategy to try and put the pressure on Sweden. Definitely not in Spott and Lowry territory.

Considering Sweden has been to the final in 5 of the last 9 years, I would say he is. :dunno:

Considering that Sweden is 40-0 in preliminary round games in the last ten years but 7-11 in semifinal and medal games over the same span, Ducharme is clearly accurate. Of course saying that teams lose more "when things get tougher" describes probably every team in hockey history. No team has seen results in the medal rounds over that span as disappointing as Sweden has. None of that means that Canada is going to win though, or even that Canada is the favourite.

Maybe it is about putting the pressure on us?

Now they pretty much have to back him up.That may sharpen their play and make them go hard right from the puck drop.

Anyway, i always hate that sort of thing, as another poster mentioned...........the hockey gods usually aren't crazy about it, just gives bad vibes.

Big gamble by Ducharme.

A calculated gamble by Ducharme. He's no dummy and knows exactly what he's doing. Personally, I like it. Provides some bulletin board material for Sweden, sure, but may also have the effect of having the boys focus in a little more on their play to back him up. I've liked Ducharme as a coach so far; my hope is that he shortens the bench if necessary and rides his horses tomorrow evening, whoever that may be. If the Roy and Cirelli lines are going strong like they were last night, they should be the ones that get the majority of the ice time - now is not the time to play favourites or protect egos.

I don't see how it puts pressure on team Canada. They have big pressure to win regardless of what anyone says. It puts pressure on Sweden since he publicly highlighted a problem they've been having and it obviously puts pressure on Ducharme himself as the guy who put it out there. I'm guessing that he was just trying to distract a little from the team's two recent subpar performances. Not sure that it was necessary though.

No he is not

Those 2 were the worst

As for next year (I already see the writing on the bathroom wall) Tim hunter or knobauch ,who is better?

This current team were a bunch of softies and looking at next year I see a much bigger team and big time hitters. Hopefully bring back the times where we used to win. Skate skate skate hit hit hit

Well no doubt what you say here is true. However, maybe the dynamics are a little different here this year and Ducharme notices it. We have all seen the empty seats, no doubt the team does too. This is no regular Canada hosted WJC this year. Maybe just maybe Ducharme senses a little less incentive this year for players to go all out, especially in front of a home crowd that could very well seem to the players is not greatly supportive of them.

Probably not, but you never know.

I hope in the summer Hockey Canada announces that they've hired a full-time impartial head coach that will take over for the Ivan Hlinka, WJC and the U18 WHC teams. Enough with picking up coaches off of CHL teams it's just not working.

Full time coaches !!!

And speaking of the Hunters this reminds me of what Dale Hunter did in the OHL final versus the Barrie Colts a few years ago. They were down IIRC 3-1 in the series then Hunter gets in front of the camera and starts complaining about the officiating saying that it's been favouring Barrie and so on. The Knights went on to win three straight games and end up heading to the Memorial Cup instead of Barrie. Ducharme is making himself a story rather than the Canadian goaltending being the biggest one on 24/7. It's an attempt to take the pressure off and I like it.

I don't find this team very Canadian. Lots of system, an overall lack of intensity and a total lack of hitting.

Hopefully Ingram thrives under the increased workload Sweden will no doubt give him, as it will obviously be more similar to what he faces in the WHL than not seeing a shot for 5 and 10 minutes at a time.
